I am in the US & watch Corrie on Hulu but we are two weeks behind. Just saw the episodes (June 29-July 2) with Summer refusing to inject herself. Billy needs to stop trying to be her friend & be a fricking parent! He is the wussiest character on the show, the way he lets Todd lead him around by the nose.

If you are replying to my post, thanks. But I don't really have time to watch them every day, I have carved out a 3-hour chunk on Sundays to watch a week's worth. If I'm really curious about a particular story & need to know right away, I just google & read about it on different sites (usually the tabloids) that cover UK soaps.

In the six years that I freelanced for our local paper, the editorial staff was cut from about ten to two. There used to be two editions a week plus a free paper, now it is one weekly edition. Not only that but several locals were combined so the offices were closed, and their staff were all made redundant including the editors and photographers, two of whom are used as freelancers now but are only hired on a half day rate, which was previously unheard of. It was always a full day rate even if there was only one job that day. Now 50% of the content is sourced from readers or organizers of events who have to supply their own pictures usually taken on a mobile phone, so the quality has dropped. Traditionally local papers were funded by advertising, mostly estate agents, not the cover price which probably did not even pay for the printing costs. With most advertising not on-line our local is less than half as thick as it was.

I write local history articles for our local paper quite regularly. I never get paid! The only time I received any payment was back in 1989!

It is a very similar story with our local paper SOC, they have cut staff and closed the local office. The three journalists that still work for it all work from home.

Local papers would probably report these stories but do not have the money to buy them, nor would they need to spend money when they can get them for free. National papers would probably not be interested because none of these people are well known. Local papers now rely on free lifestyle content from PR companies who are only too happy to supply it. In a few years from now it is likely there will be very few local papers left.

Nobody, but nobody, buys a cot 5 minutes into a pregnancy, and then erects it, and then leaves it in a tiny living room for the duration. If that was a contrived route to enable Hope to set the fire then they shouldn't have bothered - she's an experienced arsonist (!) and could have done that at any time in an attempt to get "daddy" to come back home to live. Tyrone has enough money to buy a complete new wardrobe of clothes, endless amounts of not yet needed baby stuff, expensive cocktails in a hotel etc etc, but not enough to buy his daughter some trainers - utter nonsense. All we need now is for Silly Billy to emigrate and Corrie will have improved dramatically with the end of two awful storylines.

Also saying that if you own land, you don't need planning permission, that's absolute rubbish. Apart from the nonsense asthma story, this whole storyline about residents' parking doesn't ring true anyway. Normally, the local council would look at the area as a whole and introduce residents' parking to all the streets in the area if it was felt beneficial to residents - they wouldn't just pick off one road, knowing it would make matters worse for residents in nearby streets - or at least carry out a consultation exercise with residents in the area. Especially if, as the storyline goes, people are parking in Coronation Street because it's near the tram stop as that would probably put it high on the list for residents' parking - above Inkerman Street. In any case, if it's near the tram stop, why weren't people parking there before?
