Hopefully my copy's winging its way to me as we speak. :)
I just spoke to Vivian from the Newham Book shop. She says she has loads of copies in and will open up early for me to pick my copy up before i head to work. Lovely women. I think they are really plugging your book which is great.

Thanks sw. :)
By the way, my book is no 2 on Amazon in philosopher biographies best sellers. I'm currently splitting Alan Turing, who is 1&3! I've never thought of myself as a philosopher!!!
That's great news. You must be one after writing 25 books!
Got my copy today and already started reading it. It's very good.

No.:D
I've received the notification that my copy's on its way now. I'm really looking forward to reading it and finding out about your childhood. :)
Nearly finished the book. It has been an enjoyable read. I have been reading bits to my neighbour who remembers that period well. You were blessed with really good parents.

Thank you, sw. Yes, I had a very happy childhood thanks to my parents. They were very good to me and continued to be long after I'd left home, got married and had children of my own.
I've received your book, Parkerman, and hope to start reading it soon. I've had a quick look at the photos which are fascinating. I love it when auto-biographical books contain photographs.

Parkerman just started the book .. May I ask did you keep a diary , make notes later on, or is it memory recall ?...:)
parkerman
14-03-2015, 15:03
The first chapter is part memory and part from autobiographies my mum and dad each wrote. Most of the rest is memory recall. I did start keeping a diary in December 1964 so some of the dates right at the end are taken from that, though the incidents themselves I remember well.
I have a good memory - it comes in handy in quizzes.:D
I heard that in one london borough they tried to re house single parents and make them go to Hastings, Birmingham etc. They challenged and stayed. I wont say anymore as many Forum members are all reading your book!
I'm feeling really upset today because my beloved cat, Simba, has been put to sleep. He was about 13 years old (I adopted him as an adult cat so not exactly sure of his age) and had been suffering from heart failure for a few months. I'll miss him. :crying:
Some photos if anyone's interested:-

That's so sad, Dazzle. I am a great cat lover myself. I've had a total of seven cats in my life - still have two. It's just awful when they die or are put to sleep. I've always wished cats could live as long as us. 13 or 14 years is just such short life. It's good to hear that Simba didn't suffer.

It never gets easier to lose a beloved pet. I agree about their lifespan - it feels like they're only with us for such a brief time. :(

Odd thing is she (mo) didn't start hanging out with dog (Maggie) until sadly her brother was put to sleep last year? In the last 9 months she has managed to train the dog more successfully than I have!!??
Sorry to hear that Dazzle. Hope you are ok

Up early to go and see my mum. Not been able to see her for two weekends as helping my daughter with job applications for teacher posts She was hopefully qualify to be a teacher this summer. She has a job interview tomorrow so preparing her this afternoon. Then got to help my friends daughter do her application for a job in law later. I hate job applications!
My daughter lacks confidence. I am worried that even if she gets offered a job they may reject for her long term conditions. Even though she has medical conditions she only had one day off in a year when she was working. She loves children and has a passion for teaching. When she comes home and talks about the kids in school she has so much love and care for them. This PGCE has been tough but she has managed it. They gave her a school placement 2 hours away and she comes home exhausted and still has to prepare for the next day.

I spent yesterday watching the rugby in the pub with some mates, and today I'm going round my brother and girlfriend's house as they are cooking Sunday lunch. I'm supplying the pudding - sticky Apple sponge which I have made myself :D
You're making my mouth water Davey! Will you be having custard with that? :)
Thanks everyone. . I have been up since 5am so i can fit everything in today. Got her prepared now she is just showing me outfits that she's deciding on. I said she has to wear a suit for interview ...she would prefer not to. Davey i hope I get a weekend that is as enjoyable as yours soon!
great that you can cook desert. I managed to have an amazing breakfast when I dropped my mum off to a friends this morning. I have not bothered with lunch as I am so full. It was an south Asian breakfast all home made.

Glad you had a great time .. where did you go? :)
Glad you had a good holiday I am looking forward to going to France to see my brother soon for a week. It probably is the first real break I have had in 15 years. The other so called breaks have been nightmares and planned by my husband. Going to Germany to look after his new born nephew is not a holiday!!
Going to a wedding in Pakistan believe me is not a holiday!! I expect France to be peaceful and calming (especially since its my side of the family)
Anyway I wanted to let you all know I lost the case where I was a whistleblower on the NHS. I knew this was likely but I still had to raise serious concerns. The NHS has covered up and manipulated the investigation to get the outcome they wanted. However I have created some changes in behaviour at the top and the community is aware of what's going on. So they will be keeping an eye out and so will I. The NHS has arranged a party within the building I work in to celebrate their victory over me. I feel strong though and I am getting myself back to normal and focusing on family, friends and putting in place things for me for a change. Being a workaholic is making that bit hard but I am working on it. I am the least relaxed person I know!

Im very sorry you lost the case. It takes great
courage & tenacity to stand up against a big
bureaucracy. As for them holding a party !!....
not out of public funds I hope.
From what you have said your challenge
has made some changes and once the
general public become aware of a situation
at a hospital etc - it is more difficult for it
to be repeated. So you should feel you have
done some good-disappointing tho the result
must be for you.
Best wishes and every success in whatever
change of direction you choose to make
in your life.!
And have a really enjoyable & relaxing
holiday - you deserve it!!

I think the fact they are celebrating means they know they are in the wrong but it might help them to cover up their feelings of guilt they might be having deep down ... Well done to you anyway to do what you did, you never know, one day this might raise its head again and your evidence will be regarded differently.
Enjoy your holiday, I hope it will be a relaxing one for you. :)
I hope you enjoy your holiday in France and that it's as peaceful and calming as you're hoping it'll be. You seriously need to relax!!! When are you going? :)
I'm so glad to hear you're feeling much better - I was worried about you there for you for a while. You're a winner in my eyes no matter what anyone else says, and it sounds like your whole community agrees. Your complaint has ensured changes have been made, which is a brilliant outcome whichever way you look at it. You can be very, very proud of yourself!!!!
Thank you for your kind messages. I am going on 11th April. My brother made a house for his family , i am so proud of him. Its been hard going as french builders dont follow any instructions you give them apparently. So it took way longer. I have a gorgeous neice and nephews and looking forward to seeing them. They can speak English now so much easier communicating. They love coming to England every year and they can't stop crying when they leave. Much more to do here than in the place they live and they are close to my kids.

I am scared of flying too and not allowed to drink so nothing can calm me down. Hope you have a great time

I am so worried that my daughter may find it hard to get a job as a teacher because of her type 2 diabetes. It was hard getting on a PGCE course because of it...as the secretary of state says something about teachers and their health. She has only had one day off in a year. People who are fit and healthy have had more days off! I hope she gets something soon . She did'nt get the position the other day but she has three more interviews in April.

Sorry to hear your daughter didn't get the job. :(
I'm sure far more importance will be placed on her sick record than her diabetes, which is obviously very well-managed.
I wish her good luck for her next interviews. Let us know how it goes, won't you? :)
Didnt manage a full day in work last week! Sent home three days and spent yesterday in bed.
I am seriously run down at the moment. Just cannot seem to shift this cold and to top it off I now have a sickness bug that also seems to be doing the rounds! I am never off ill so im not a very good patient!
It is a bad virus at the moment. I had it and had to take time off which I hardly ever do. So just be kind to yourself. It took me 6 weeks to fully recover but i took about 4 days off. Tried to work from home during that time which made it harder to recover.
plenty vitamin c and zinc and b12 for flu and low blood being rundown
good to be bad home i need my own bed i never get good sleep away

Oh no Air France on strike it may not affect my outward journey on Saturday but they are striking the day I come back on 18th April. I am travelling on Ryan Air. I am sat at work panicking and trying to clear my diary week commencing 20th!
Hopefully they will settle their dispute before, but I can appreciate your concerns :(

Finally managed to get to France. Airports really busy with new checking procedures.
Air France strike has been called off so hopefully i will get home on Saturday. Had to watch coronation street on you tube while I was here. I only worled that i could watch it like that yesterday. There is a TV with ITV here but as I decided to get my nephews a playstation 4 as a gift i never got to see anything on it!

That was a very generous present you gave your nephews!
It was more of a housewarming present for them as my brother has built a new house and their nintendo wii had broken. After spending so much on building the house it was not a priority for my brother. Glad to be getting back to the UK missing my other kids as only one came with me. The others did not want to come as they are revising.
I have finally booked to go to the coronation street tour. I wish I had gone to it when I was at central manchester college! Was'nt such a big fan then. But i suppose its got more to see now. Going to some theatre arts thing at the contact theatre the day before so finally got my chance to go. Every time i go to Manchester I get busy with family. This time I am not going to let that happen.
I am glad you are doing things for yourself, family is important and nice but we all need a little 'Me' time occasionally. I did the Neighbours tour when I was in Melbourne recently which was pleasant enough and met Kym Valentine who is very nice :D

The Neighbours trip was not exciting, the trip to Australia sure was, Neighbours trip was ok, Kym Valentine probably was not what was expected as she has not been acting for a few years but she was very friendly and it was a pleasure to meet her :D

What a shame the Neighbours tour was dull but I'm really glad you enjoyed Australia so much! :)
Lucky you. I would love to go to Australia but the whole journey i hear is hard. I am a terrible traveller.
6 hour flight to Dubai from Heathrow, 2 hours stop-over, then 12 hours to Melbourne. I was lucky on the way over that I had 3 seats to myself as the plane was quite empty, so I was able to lay down and get some sleep. Not so lucky on the way home but I could not afford Business Class :( However, I would fly over again today if given the opportunity ....:D
Had a good bank holiday weekend doing all the jobs i have been putting off for ages. Hard to keep up with things when your working full time. I am making my house cat friendly even though its a while before i get a cat.
Dazzle i have to wait a year but i have put myself on a waiting list for a siberian cat. My sister is allergic to cats thats why i have to get a siberian one. The more i looked into it it was a better option than my sister taking tablets as that probably won't suit her either. She reacts to everything!
If she was'nt allergic i would have gone straight to the celia hammond cat rescue. I might volunteer in the meantime.

Hey Peeps
Currently sitting in Norway (a small place up in the North which is full of mountains) and it got dark at 11.30pm ish and sun was up again at 2am. It is very hard to get use to but a very beautiful country...
Spending long weekend with my niece.

Can dogs suffer from insomnia?? One of mine woke me up before 4am and would not settle ... I feel like a zombie :(
Must be the week for it, our dog has been awake really early 3 times this week and wouldn't settle.

Can dogs suffer from insomnia?? One of mine woke me up before 4am and would not settle ... I feel like a zombie :(
Basically yes.
Dogs are very sensituve ti their human familys
wellbeing and pick up on any stress or worry there
and are aware when they are not well.
When dogs are older they have similar problems
to humans
If sleep too.much in day / sleep.less well at night
Suffer ageing probems eg hip/ bladder . If their
sight & hearing deteriorate the dark at night
can be frightening.
They can also become diabetic and like humans-
if have pain dont sleeo well.
If it continues and you cant see a likely answer
perhaps consult vet.. If cause established can
be treated or various natural remedies& canine
meds available .
With pets like babies and infants - its worrying
because they cant tell you what is wrong
as older children & adults can!
Hope you can resolve problem soon!

Talking about insomnia my 16 yr old son was almost in tears this morning as he has not slept for two nights! He has his History GCSE today and only slept an hour. Had his maths A level yesterday and thinks he did really badly through lack of sleep. Glad i do not have exams anymore.

It might have been too much rest during the day .. it is very hot here now and although I take them for only short walks during the day, they tend to sleep more ... She is fine, I am sure, was perky as anything when I took them for an hour walk in the cool morning hours at 6.30am :D

I'm glad to hear your dog seems fine now Perdy. If it happens again I'd say the likely cause would be that she's in some kind of pain or discomfort and needs to see a vet. It's very worrying when our beloved pets aren't themselves. :(

I am sure she is fine, done it before a few weeks ago, she is fine when I give her attention and play with her .. I think she is just wide awake and bored and thinks Mummy is just the person to do something about it
We took our dog to the vet as we were worried he was ill but they couldn't find a thing wrong with him. Like Perdy I think he thinks well I'm awake and want someone to play with me. :)
my dog often sleeps downstairs by herself, and then at 4am I hear her moving about and she randomly appears up on the bed with me for a cuddle??
Mine are not allowed on the bed but Savannah, who is a bit bigger than Tallulah will put her front paws on the edge of the bed and poke me with one of the paws... That usually happens around 4am but I tell her it is too early and she will go back to her bed by my bed or in the basket in the lounge which is only a few metres away. Tallulah is more insistent and there is no chance of going back to sleep :nono:
I love to hear the tales of all of your dogs. They're so full of character! :D
Mine sleeps under the covers with me... :o

I've tried those but it didn't make any difference. Maybe they were already too far gone though! :D
Are you feeding wet food or dry food? Vet told me when I first got the puppies that they should get as little wet food as possible, I guess the dry food helps to get rid of plaque. How old is your doggy? :)

He only eats dry food. He's about 7 (not entirely sure because I didn't get him as a puppy). :)
Guess it is like it is with humans .. can take care of your teeth as best as you can but they get bad just the same over time. Hopefully now his teeth have gone, your boy will be fit as a fiddle again and getting lots of cuddles in bed sure will help :D
I've finished your book Parkerman! http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/dancing/smileys-dancing-176278.gif (http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/)
I flew through it and found it enjoyable and fascinating.
I'll put my thoughts in spoiler tags so I don't spoil the book for anyone who intends to read it in the future.
I particularly liked your family stories, especially your description of visiting your grandparents on the weekend. Your affection for your family comes through very strongly! I loved details like your dad's habit of giving everyone and everything nicknames, and the family habit of quoting Rupert the Bear (by the way, have you noticed the Rupert the Bear books are actually very sinister when read as an adult? http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/afraid/smileys-afraid-990255.gif (http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/)). What a lovely family you had. A really idyllic childhood!
The history was fascinating too as I'm a bit younger than you so some of it was unfamiliar to me.
I didn't know you're so keen on sports! It's very nice to know so much about you. :)
I was really impressed you took part in a demonstration (although in truth it sounded more like a riot :D) against fascist Oswald Mosley! That's really something to be proud of!
Your description of your sadness at leaving the prefab left me a lump in my throat. Will you be writing a follow up because I'd love to know how you settled into Loughton and about your life after you left home for college.

Did everyone know our Parkerman's quite the celebrity? Amazon describe him as "...one of Britain's most prolific local history and sports writers with 25 published books to his name" (link (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Norman-Jacobs/e/B001KIKM18/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1)). I used to like those kind of things but the recent Alton Towers crash has put me right off.
I spent 9 hours driving from London to Manchester on Friday with my sister and son. Bad crash on M6 involving 3 lorries. They closed Part of M6 while i was on it! I tookthe day off to get there early and go to the Lowry Museum. Never happened. I saw my cousins show next day at the contact theatre. I was there 7 hours and it was a wonderful interactive event highlighting your five senses. I am so knackered. Now off to the Coronation street tour where I may fall asleep on the cobbles and then long drive to London on a busy Sunday. What joy.
Enjoy the trip and hopefully you have a much smoother drive home again :)

But home now and going to catch Up watching Fridays episodes. The corrie set was good and I enjoyed myself. The shop could have had more stuff i was looking forward to buying things but did'nt.

Bit in bold: that sounds very intriguing... :D
Long journeys are really good for meaningful conversations that you would not really get down to otherwise. My sister is going to make big changes as she has been held back by our mum (who she has had to live with as well as my brothers ex wife) makes my life seem simple all this. Its my sisters house but they make her feel like a third class citizen. She going to move out even though its her house and get her life back.

Well done to her! It can be so difficult to pull yourself out of a soul-destroying situation. I hope she finds happiness. :)
Thanks I hope so too as she has made sacrifices for me as well being my big sis

I was up til 5am this morning finishing off a blanket I knitted to enter into our state fair. It is HUGE!!!!
We`ve had so many bad winters the past few years I wanted to knit a blanket with thick yarn that holds the heat in from the electric blanket on me and hubbys bed. The border edging alone took 3 balls of yarn!! Fifteen balls total of yarn.
It was so heavy knitting it that Popeye would be envious of my arm muscles now.

My mind is boggling at the size of the task
and admiration for your stamina in completing it!!
Did you knit it in squares first??
I hope you do well at State Fair TL- you deserve
to.
Im also quite ashamed that I was so "nesh"
as to complain last winter was so cold here!!

My camera is rubbish, doesn`t show the true colours at all. Here is a better look as to the true colours. Which is the WV Mountaineers flag colours.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments.
My latest creation was 2 years in the making. By the time I designed it, typed out the pattern to print out - it took nearly a week. On average each row took 35 minutes to knit.
I will never knit in that colour blue again - it was really hard to see.

sorry I haven't been on for a while but this is the first relatively cool day I have had for a week (I saw relatively as it is still 28 degrees). Got up to 40 on Saturday... it is fricking mental hot over here.... we have 3 days next week of low 20's and then it is back up to over 30 degrees. I got burnt sitting in the shade it was that hot!!!
OMG.. that is amazing... I would never be able to do anything like that and I am always in awe of those who can

We had the heatwave a week ago Siobhan, the heat was excruciating so I truly sympathise. And with the humidity too, it was a nightmare.
Thankfully it`s cooled down to a more comfortable range now. For the last 10 days it`s rained every day, and according to the weather we got another 10 days of it.
We`ll need an ark soon if this rain keeps up.
:thumbsdow
Heatwave here too, regularly around 44C and mid 20s during the night, luckily I have ventilator function on my air con, which makes it more comfortable but without getting sick from the air con :D Had to have my dog´s fur cut very short a few weeks ago as they were suffering quite badly :(
I'm a misery where the weather's concerned. I'd prefer rain to heat any day. I really don't understand how you lot can cope with such heat (even with air conditioning)! http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/confused/smileys-confused-140297.gif (http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/)
I hope your dogs are more comfortable now Perdy. :)
They are fine indoors but tend to sleep a lot, I have to drag them out a couple of times a day for about 50 metres to a small patch of grass so they can relieve themselves and then they can´t wait to get back home again ... one good thing is that I don´t have to cook as all I fancy to eat is salads :D

At least you don't have to give them long walks in that heat!
We used to have a dog that we regularly had clipped in the summer. We always laughed because she looked so naked and forlorn afterwards. http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/happy/smileys-happy-514478.gif (http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/) She was happy to be cooler though, as I'm sure your dogs were. :)
Yes, they are more comfortable although I did not like the look too much when I first saw them but they look like puppies again with short hair around their faces and ears :D:heart:

Yeah that is all we have been eating here over the past week is salads.. we had a bbq but at 9 at night when it was in the low 30s.. sleeping has been a nightmare..Glad your dogs are coping cause I am certainly not.. Been Irish, if it is over 25 degrees and not raining it is a hell of a summer

Don't know if anyone has any experience of this but if yes, maybe you can help. In the past 2 weeks I have had really bad knee pain when walking up stairs (only walking up a stairs) and I had loads of test done with doctor but he can't find anything. He said it could be due to my feet swelling in the heat cause pressure on my knee. As anyone had knee pain with no obvious reason and how did you fix it?

it sounds weight bearing related? but I'm not a doctor
I had pain going downstairs, it has stopped now and a scan showed I had erroded my ACL? but I didnt get it treated
has the Dr scanned the knee at all?

Not yet but he took lots of blood for testing and all came back normal. Had a nervous system test and that was also negative. I will see how it goes over the weekend and visit him again on Monday if it hasn't gone away... also will try to lose weight and see it that helps

I'm sure some of you'll remember me bemoaning my dog having quite a few teeth out a few weeks back when he went in to have his teeth cleaned (the vet discovered lots of his teeth were loose).
Determined to not neglect his teeth any further I've been forcing him to have them brushed recently (along with copious amounts of doggy treats). Guess what I discovered a few days ago? The vet had missed a loose tooth right at the back of his mouth! :wall: I was fuming about it because my poor little dog is bundle of nerves and it's traumatic for the him to be left at the vet for the day. It was sorted today (no charge) but my poor Kite is feeling really sorry for himself again tonight. :(
Here's a pic of him (from a few months ago):-

He is a cutie and I can appreciate your anger at the vet missing a tooth and needing to take him back :( So glad all is sorted now though :)
I had a knee problem once and i had just pulled a ligament which is common around the knee area. It sorted itself out. But i was in agony and could'nt go up and down stairs properly. Even bought a shower seat which is firmly in the shed now.
Hope your dog did'nt have to stay another night for the one tooth they missed out.
Getting ready for work. Its going to be gridlock out there today because of tube strike. The centre i work in opens at half eight but i will be outside it at 7. Taking no chances. I will take a flask of tea!

You've reminded me I did something very similar a few years ago. I bent over and twisted and felt something tear in my knee. I was in absolute agony like you but it did heal without any intervention (I think it took a few months to heal completely). I've since found out that the bending and twisting motion can cause a very common knee injury.
Hopefully whatever's happened to your knee will heal on its own Siobhan, though you should definitely get all the tests done you can to rule out anything that needs treatment. :)
Hope your dog did'nt have to stay another night for the one tooth they missed out.
No he was only in for a few hours but he had to have another general anaesthetic, which I was very unhappy about. He's also got very bad separation anxiety (I'm his third owner because the others couldn't cope with him) so it was a major trauma for him. Hopefully we won't have to step foot in the vet's again for a few years!

For the first time ever I won a competition.. I entered Allianz safety competition just writing a few words on what reminds me to put my seatbelt on and they came back saying to contact them and confirm I am a runner up. I seen 4 others with same message but I haven't seen the winner one yet.. Maybe we are shortlisted for the big prize. 1st prize is a signed Lewis Hamilton seat belt from his F1 car.. runner up gets a Mercedes F1 bag signed by Lewis Hamilton.. either way I am super happy

Every year when its Eid and end of ramadan my road gets blocked up with cars blasting out asian music into the early hours. Plus road rage as its a one way system and all roads get gridlocked. They are out there right now really anti social behaviour So no chance of sleeping. At least i dont have to get up at 2am anymore and can eat anything i want when i want. ....until next year.
