You have friends here :cheer:

The cheques in the post :moonie::angel::lol:

Wow, the new female version remake of Ghost Busters really sucks and blows at the same time .. phew .. I pity the fools that went to the cinema and had to watch that load of guff:rotfl:

What made it worse was the cameo roles made/ played by the original actors, are they that short of money?

Also, the remake of Robocop... wow does that suck, I mean how do you make a half man robot violent movie make you want to sleep, well that director achieved it.

thank you splashy!!! I ( I know you don't mean it) am only interested in what my ancestors did for a living and where they lived, on my Grandmother's side they came from Lancashire ( I were born up north, but moved to the Cheshire area later on) a lot of them worked either in domestic service or as labourers in cotton mills or on farms,

Back in the day - and I'm talking late 60s/early 70s - one of my favourite singers was Al Stewart. I had all his records and saw him in concert and at folk clubs many times. I still play his early stuff quite a lot today.

Over the last ten years or maybe even more, Al, who now lives in America, has toured over here on a fairly regular basis but he always does his newer songs and has not done his old songs for a long time. This year he is over here again in April and May with a tour called "Back to the Bedsit", which I can only assume means he is returning to his original songs as his first album was called "Bedsitter Images".

What this is all leading to is that, quite out of the blue this morning, his promoter offered me two complimentary tickets to his concert at the London Palladium on 12 May. As it happens, that is just one week before a significant birthday for me. What a present!

Didn't Al Stewart have a hit song called "Year of the Cat"? (I seem to recall that somewhere in the back of my head!). Enjoy the concert, what a great birthday present for you!

Rough day in Splashy land, still having major breathing problems and every step I take with Quack leads to another wait for a test then another wait to see her again for the results of the test and on and on we go.... all the while land lady just thinks I can walk it off, take more exercise blah blah blah.. very frustrating....

Sorry to hear about your breathing problems and it must be very frustrating to await results of tests before the doctor is able to prescribe something that will hopefully make it easier for you. Hope it is not much longer now :(

Oh yeah ... I was supposed to go for a meal today with the family, despite me explaining in detail to land lady my issues she went and told them I was having panic attacks not breathing issues :wall: I love her to bits but sis if she deceides something that must be the case... case in point to this day she will not have a bar of the fact there are rechargeable batteries in those solar garden light ornaments, no they are just ordinary batteries she insists... hit her with the logic that any batterie that is being recharged by a solar panel must be a rechargeable one and you just get an infatic no. :rotfl:

swm and that date IS

I loved the Take that bit on Nose day... well TBH I just watched on Youtube and ignored the Beeb last night, I sent them some monies so didnt see the point of watching loads of desperados pushing their new stuff and careers in the name of charity mate.

Went to pick up my son and his friends from Stanstead Airport . Was there 10.00pk and his Glasgow flight got diverted to Luton Airport. I have been waiting for hours then he said go home. I even said i would drive to Luton but him and friends said no. Some protest on runway about deportations . Eight people caused flights to be diverted as far as Birmingham. I worked late at work up until 9 as i thought it would be easier to get to stansted nearer the time. I wish i had not worked late now as shattered. Now cannot sleep as worried about him and his friends. My husband is awake and told me to sleep. Slim chance of that.

After shopping for the usual groceries at Sainsbury's I decided to buy a new lawn trimmer from Robert Dyas, got it home, fitted it together and then ventured outside to do my front lawn it had only been going so well until 2 minutes later when things came to an abrupt halt, the spool had broken off, leaving the trimmer chord ravelled up around the base. Rang Robert Dyas and told them what happend, they will replace the faulty one for me. Thank goodness it didn't cost too much.

Forgot to mention I had an eye test at a well known opticians this morning, talk about service with a smurk:thumbsdow ( plus miserable work attitude) and a voice that might as well have belonged to Lurch's niece, I was not impressed. I have worked in Customer service for 16 years and would never present myself like she did. I complained to the manager who I hope will get some well needed training done. I need to have new lenses for my reading glasses, cost not very expensive ( which was good). Now watching tv.

You should of gone to... oh wait you probably did:ninja:

The trick is to go to a nice family run place for the test then take the prescription to the cheepo other places. .. the family run place still gets their cut from doing the test. Mind you I just went with the friendly place I went to, paid more for the bins but they were exactly what I needed.

but then I am an opticians wet dream, please excuse the term, but none of them have ever seen someone with Bests.. even the proff at the eye hospital has only ever seen 3 with it and thats my fsmily.

Today I have mostly been puling my hair out trying to coordinate fools...renting out my flat is becoming insane, no one listens or reads emails, they just seem to bubble along like deranged antelopes.

Yesterday i was given a nissan juke courtesy car as a week ago someone hit my car when i was waiting at a give way sign. Driving the courtesy car I went to pets at home and when i opened the boot of the car to put my shopping in it had bags i did not recognise at the back. I was confused and closed the boot. Only to realise i had walked to soneobe elses nissan juke car that was identical and opened their boot while they were sat in the car. Plus they had 3 really cute dogs that were wondering what was happening. I apologised and they laughed as they saw that my car was identical.

About 5 years ago I decided to try and prepare a family tree , all seemed fairly straightforward until I started to research my grandmother who had eleven brothers and sisters. WW I took its toll, and although I identified their parents never managed to progress it further. Found out I had A great uncle who was employed by a distillery north of the border, wrote to them asking if they had any records relating to him ,had a very nice reply which I kind of hoped might have been attached to a complimentary bottle of single malt, (dream on Glen).
Must have spent About £ 150 to this point on a couple of subscription sites and for the past couple of years gave up. However 4 weeks ago received a letter from The Ministry of Defence asking if I would provide a D.N.A. sample to assist in identifying the remains of a particular W.W.I. soldier out of five sets of remains that had been unearthed at a field on the outskirts of Ypres. This I've now done and await results. The M.O.D. Genealogy section have sent me a copy the records they researched which identified me as a relative. The records going back to 1824. So interest rekindled wondered if anyone could advise on a genealogy site ,reasonably priced and any reading material that might assist . :)

This I've now done and await results. The M.O.D. Genealogy section have sent me a copy the records they researched which identified me as a relative. The records going back to 1824. So interest rekindled wondered if anyone could advise on a genealogy site ,reasonably priced and any reading material that might assist . :)

Hi Glen1. I am in Australia, & my wife is quite into genealogy & researching our family trees. Her parents both emigrated to Aust from Scotland in their teens (they met here in Aust) & she has quite a few relatives over in Scotland.

She uses the software program 'Family Tree Maker' - not sure of the cost or if you can buy it in the UK.

She also recommends the following websites:

www.ancestry.com
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (national records of Scotland website)
www.findmypast.co.uk
www.familysearch.org (this is the Mormon's site in the US, but she says it is a fantastic site with lots of worldwide information)

You would have to go to each of these sites to find out any costs involved to access the info.

I hope that helps a bit!

My brother, while trying to find our uncle, did a bit of research into our family tree and we found out that way way way along the lines my family (well cousins on my dad's side) are related to Buffalo Bill Cody (my dad's second cousin was a Cody)

Sorry, just caught up with this. It's always exciting to find someone famous in your Family Tree. I have been at this Family History research lark for about 40 years now! As some of you know I have discovered I am related to Barbara Windsor and Peter Sellers and even the Queen (she is the niece of the wife of the 3rd cousin twice removed of the husband of the wife of the great grandson of the wife of my first cousin five times removed. So pretty close really!)

I also discovered that my great great great grandfather fought at Waterloo and I received invitations to all the celebrations going on both there and at St Paul's a couple of years ago plus a commemorative medal.

I have used a few sites but I find Ancestry.com (or Ancestry.co.uk) the best, though the Mormon site is very good as well.

On Friday my friend had a hysterectomy because of cervical cancer. On the other side of the same hospital her husband was having chemotherapy for bowel cancer. Their children are young adults.
The 20 year old daughter was with mum and 21 year old son with dad all that day. The son was panicking as the chemotherapy time got changed 4 times on the same day. Friends are now rallying round so things should be easier

Thats sad. When i was a kid i got bit badly by a dog and it got put down. I did not want it to, i just found out afterwards. I do not think i was the first he attacked. He was a very clever dog and knew how to open the front door. He saw me running between two alleyways in Manchester and chased me and then staring attacking and biting me. It was extremely scary. It has taken me years to get close to dogs. I literately used to break into a cold sweat and freeze on the spot sometimes depending on the dog. My friend has a very friendly dog and he has helped me greatly. Now i find myself wanting a dog.

That must have been terrifying for you. I was bitten by my uncle's farm dog when I was about 6 or 7, first day of school holidays, was meant to stay there for 3 weeks. I was running from outside exploring into the farm and dog chased me, got me just as I got into the door. Had my holiday there though after getting medical treatment. Never put me off dogs though :)

I was attacked by a dog as a child, luckily not bitten but to this day I am terrified of dogs, especially if they bark. My friend has an amazing dog, extremely well trained but I still would not get one. I will stick to cats as I am not so scared of them. I am always afraid with dogs that they will turn on you. My family always had a dog and they were great but I still have this complete fear of them.

You could probably do with a session with Nik and Eva Speakman of This Morning fame .. they seem to work wonders with all kinds of problems that people have .. I am an extreme arachnaphobia .. luckily, I have had only 2 encounters with spiders in 4 years here and they were small ones, so not too bad an issue .. I don't seem to have a problem with creatures that have no more than 4 legs :)

Has anyone returned items bought through Amazon but from a seller? I got this dress, which looked beautiful in the picture, but in reality it was horribly made and looked like it was attacked by a 2 year old. Anyway clicked on return and got an email from the user stating this:

We want to do 3 € discount for you, would it be possible not to return the items?

Had no clue what it meant and when I asked for clarification, I got same reply. So I said, I want to return it and get my money back. Printed of the label Amazon provide and went to post office who said it would cost €18 to ship.. the dress was only €9. I always thought returns were free if it was clothes or damaged goods.

Yes Siobhan, also an item of clothing, different size dispatched against that ordered. There is an appeal procedure through Amazon , who will arbitrate with the seller if there are problems. Tell them of your concerns ,also the cost of return postage ,relative to goods of inferior quality sent. Do everything through Amazon ,sellers don't like to have trouble with them. If approved use recorded delivery.

Actually, just sent Amazon a mail and they went directly to seller for me saying to give me a full refund and don't expect me to return item if they are not going to pay for delivery. They also wrote to me saying I could make a claim if the seller doesn't respond to them. They will start it for me.

Yesterday a woman came from some cat rescue centre to see the stray cats that regularly come to my garden. I was not impressed with this woman at all. She was not a natural with cats and had them scared. You cannot go up to stray cats and start poking them around within seconds of meeting them. Then i found out she was just the admin person and not experienced cat rescuer.
However a lady who lives a street away from me feeds the same strays so we are working together to help the cats and return them to the neighbourhood once neutured etc I bought one of the scanners you can use to check if they are microchipped or not. Its going to be hard work but worth it. Julia and I are so attached to the cats that we do not trust others woth their care. I hear some places put them down.

This is just not fair. I used to work in HR and job applicants were told within 24 hours at the latest whether they were successful or not, sometimes a phone call within a couple of hours. I think that is the way it needs to be done, I am not sure I would want to work with people that could not be bothered to inform me within a decent time scale about the outcome of the interview

The last three years have been painful losing so much contracts as a result of our whistleblowing. But on the other hand its a bit of relief as i saw it to the end and now may be a new beginning for me. It will take a few months to close and i still have my nhs part time job. But that will go soon with nhs changes coming soon . I will try and take a non managerial role i think as i do not want this type of stressful job again.

I am sure your mum reacted the way she did because she loves you and wants what is best for you. She might see something in your partner that you don´t... the saying goes that Love Makes Blind and I can speak from experience that it does at times.
In an argument we all can say things to somebody else that are very hurtful but they are not meant to, sometimes people don´t find the right words and say things in the heat of the moment that they regret as soon as they said the words.
If you find it difficult to speak to your mum face to face, maybe write her a letter, explaining how you feel about your partner and your current relationship with your mum. Do it when you feel reasonably calm and not too upset. Leave the letter for her when she has some time to read it and digest the contents. That way she will have time to think about your side of things. It is important to keep the channels of communication open and that way you will be able to sort things out. I am sure you can overcome this and that you will be able to be best friends again. :)

Make sure Splashy you don't eat liquorice sweets, or you'll give new meaning to jet propulsion. I'd walk quickly past 'em in sweet shops. Also you may need to practice the passing the blame game in company , the sideways glance at someone and move away from you target shaking your head in disapproval.

Well done Katy, it's great the way people will unite and stand against evil.

And thanks to everyone who responded to my post about my mum. Things are tough at the minute. It's not even about my bf to be honest, it's the fact that she's been reading all my messages on my phone for the last month or so, and has now basically called me a sl** for getting a bf for the first time in years. :(

I am not sure that would work, to be honest. Preparation is the key, I think. Know what the job is about, do some research before you attend the interview. Always good to mention jobs/duties you have done that relate to that job. Eye contact is important but don´t stare at your interviewer(s). Smile a lot. Practice it with a friend or family member .. record yourself if you can .. listen to it and make changes to your replies if you feel that it would be appropriate. Remember, they know you are nervous and will make allowances ... good luck

This is the advise I was giving when I went to job seeker meeting. I would also try an agency. They do pre-interview prep with you and they are eager for you to get the job cause it is actually their job on the line. If it helps, give us some of the questions you were asked at the interviews and we can give advise on how to answer it should it come up.

That strikes me as being very lazy on the agency's part and looks as if they are trying to palm job seekers off with anything available to get them off their books and a tick in the box for successful job allocation and another tick in the right box for the company... makes me sick

think that is exactly it... They can say they got someone a job and their figures look good. The worst part is that soon after the person doesn't do well in the job and is let go and back to the job center

Sorry to hear Splashy of your continuing problems. Perhaps for the time being , maybe a price worth paying , as long as the pills are having the desired effect ? I guess if it becomes intolerable another visit to the Doc ? In which case I hope the appointments system down your neck of the woods is quicker than here.:)

Shes totally unable to project any empathy both in words an actions. Both her speeches on the matter have been delivered in a set parliamentary manor of dead eyes and unneeded head movements. Funnily enough I was told this story this morning by one of our Front of House Staff at the theatre. He said he used to be a delivery driver and, back in the 1990s, he had to deliver some books to a school in Sunningdale. When he got to the village, he asked someone where the school was, they said he couldn't miss it if he travelled on straight down the road he would come to a house with a big Cadillac in the front garden and between that and the next house, which also had a big cadillac in the front garden, there was an opening on to a lane which led up to the school. The two houses belonged to Freddie Starr and Diana Dors. He said the person who told him said it very matter-of-factly, as though it was nothing out of the ordinary to have two stars like that living in the street.

I suppose that means there are no medicines for low blood pressure and that is universally known fact.

Your husband is allowed to have a bit more salty food than you should normally have .. the odd cup of bovril, for example (other brands are of course available). If he is able to exercise, that would be useful too, just a brisk walk for half an hour every day or as long as he can manage will help raise the blood pressure. I have the same problem and have been much better since I got the dogs and walk them every day :)

Wiki: In 2014, Clooney and his new British wife Amal Alamuddin bought the Mill House on an island in the River Thames at Sonning Eye in England[122] at a cost of around £10 million.[123]

I guess that as it is an island it is not easily accessible? That is probably why they have the privacy they obviously sought when buying this property .. if Wiki is correct :)

Actually the safest place you could ever be inside a car, thats if its made of metal not plastic, its called the Faraday cage effect, The charge seemly goes round the outside and then earths itself on the ground, thou it has nothing to do with rubber tyres.

If caught in the open stay away from trees as a strike would make them explode, simply kneel down with your butt in the and your face flat to the dirt, the theory is that its better to get a strike to your butt and not directly your head, or maybe it just makes it easier to kiss your own butt goodbye.

A big no no is using a land line thats hard wired during a storm, its ok to use cordless and mobiles indoors but not outside as any metal object could cause a strike. Plus if you dont have surge protections on pcs etc unplug them, same goes if you PC is hare connected to the router.

Best storm ever was sailing down Southampton water with a 60ft metal mast just asking for a direct hit :cartman: I wouldnt of minded, I knew angt would go gown the metal shrouds then jump to the sea with no harm to the boat, but it had a metal steering wheel directly connected to the boom and thus I was trying to touch that baby as little as possible from as far away as I could. As per the family sat below waving their cups of tea at soaked me every now and again with smug grins.

It is never wrong to respect nature and to fear what it can do if you are complacent.

Ive witnessed a tornado kicking off during a thunderstorm, It was only a cat 1 but per square mile Britain gets more of them than tornado alley in America.

But lightening fasinates me, its known now that an arch of energy goes upwards before the strike comes down wards, then an arch of energy goes upwards from the source of the stricke in the cloud and this is all about how the ozone layer is generated and protects us from the suns harmful rays.

My new best mate Lord Bucket head told me all this, well he is still upset he couldnt beat Mrs May to be an MP so hes been out about searching for the allusive cash cow and magic money tree to save our planet.

America dosent worship government it worships GOD.

Good old Trumpy tweeting again, post his sacking of all transgenders in his military. the excuse being about medical costs when the actuality is any new recruits would have to be at least 18 months in to gender reassignment post opp and existing service persons would only cost them a max total of 3 million. But they never got to the recruitment stage so in fact all Trump is doing is sacking people because it will bring the nasties who hate all thing other than straight men or women because he needs their support as he is in for pasting over the investigations on him.

The attack on the LGBT community could be a scary start to him even going to war with someone to distract away from his alleged corruptions and pull the , you need a strong leader at this time, card. Considering he promised to support LGBT individuals in he campaign speeches !!!!

Today I submitted my plans for a car that runs on pixxie dust and cat poo to the licence office.. I could be in the money by 2040.

Hes playing all the cards he can to dodge any impeachment. He literally is a school yard bully whos reach the highest office. His making USA great again is exactly what Hitler said when he came to power, in both cses playing on the frustrations of down trodden people, in Trumps case it was Mexico and China Hitler the war rebates te Allies demanded after ww1.

I keep looking into the eyes of the white house spokesman lady when she speels off all this duff stuff... I ponder if she has sold her soul to Trump because no money on earth would any sane person want to do that job. In post war Iraq the Americans went after liars like her who propped up the President.

Having more problems with my eyes, have a swirling vortex that basically completely blinds me for a second when its there and its becoming there more and more freqyentlu now, off to the Doc on Tuesday and hopefully will see Proff at eye hospital as soon as possible.. its kinda testing my normal upbeat mood.

Cheers Dazzle.. I know Im already registered severely sight impaired/blind, but I really dont want to go totally blind .. Ive got too many people to annoy on the internet with my dull energy sucking posts . :cartman:

Anywho the land lady is off with her troop of Guides to camp this weekend, I get the week to myself.. just as well really as I think my very being is erking her at the moment.. but then she has had a couple of weeks being a teacher to tired tots at work who just want their mummies.. then she comes home to the fun black hole that is me her lodger.

I may be delusional but I seem to still have my weird effect on some, in Robert Dyers on Sat out of the blue a worker lady actually handed me her card and said call me if you need anything.. I wasnt even buying anything, I was stood there patiently while relatives where taking half an hour over deciding what dish scrubber they were going to buy.. I have to say thou she was very attractive and a lot younger than me.. then on Thursday land lady ran into one of her teacher mates, who was very intense to say the least... in a specific way.. towards me.. yikes .. I keep looking in the mirror and seriously cant see hwat they see

I think I should just keep taking the meds and stop day dreaming that I am in a soft core porn movie from the 70s .. thou my nieces ex could of been in one, he certainly had the creepy mastache look to fit.

Hungaro race was well dull, fell asleep.. only excitement was that Trump tweeted he hated Hamilton, alas it turned out it was some kind of play or musical he hated not Lewis .. ah well just when I thought I agreed with him for once.

Doc has given me some new anti sad meds which I hope wont turn me like the last lot into a pocket rocket of flatulence that would endanger the worlds ozone layer. :cartman: Been on these ones before and had no issue, so fingers crossed.

No luck with my fun swirling white fan in my eye, Doc never heard of it, but then to be fair the Professor, the main man at the districts eye hospital hadnt either. After I had researched for hours using a web crawling I had got its medical name and possible causes, one being that it was a form of migrain? Doc offered me anti migraine pills but said they may make me nauseous combined with other pills I take so I left it there and will just enjoy the firworks in my eye.. been ignoring problems in my eyes all my life another one aint an issue if it dont give me pain.

Went to the local cafe for full slap up English as its next to the Chemist, umm.. it was expensive and not the best Ive ever had, egg was over cooked sausage was of low quality and it had no hash browns or black pudding just cheap beans and a burnt mushroom.. the tom was ok. Id rate it 4 out of ten, but then the place does have a booze licence which on days could earn any food more marks.

So the US has told NC that they aint their enemy, no the US are every bodies enemey at the moment, Trump will be falling out with God next professing he is more Godlier.

From what I saw on the news it was about new stricter EU passport controls for shengen countries ,plus some Spanish airport staff are staging strike action over pay and conditions. I guess add this into the pot with the holiday season and maybe a touch of what you have said Splashy , problems result.

Maybe Orange, then theres a chance Mrs May will pay me a billion to back her, I never did believe in dinosaurs anyway, nor that the world is round and isnt held up by a giant man called Atlas. His arms must really ache by now.

Glad the weekends over, to say there is no good TV on is an understatement, how many times can anyone watch Harry Potter without mounting a quest to hunt down the TV scheduler and make him watch back to back episodes of Country File on a loop before he screams for mercy and promises never to do it again.

Being forced to go to Winchester today by bus... cant stand the place, full of toffy nosed southern Englanders with for life bags from Waitrose, the only good thing there is loafs of Pubs close together making a pub crawl ok ish and the booze makes you forget you are in Winchester.

I must say the film I cant stop myself re watching when ever its on TV is Conan the Barbarian with mr Arrnie in it.

Today I found I ideal flat to rent in Cowes, its a penthouse with views of the entire Solent waters, all I have to do now is work out how to pay £4000 per month.

Going to watch the Persian meteors do their thing tonight, those zippu little shooting stars .

Once in a pub garden this lovely lady asked me what I was looking for in the sky, I said shooting stars. she stood next to me for a good ten minutes in silent companionship, then said "well I have been looking at that star now for ages its not moved let alone shot across the sky" I didnt have the heart to explain it to her.

Giving up now trying to explain to people why Trump will have his war as he needs it to stop whats happening yo him at home politically and legally. I mean it comes to something when a country like China who delight in marching all their men and weapons around a square once a year as a sabre rattling performance tells Trump "to calm it down son"

Now off online to see in how much poo we are in, they wouldnt listen, they said no one would care or look, now some is asking questions about power of attourney for a relative in care, but its ok Im told because the person asking is very nice.. Im sure nice policemen still happily give you a court date. Alas I expect again I will unable to convince them how dangerous the situation is legally.

I managed to see one shooting star last night during a relatively short half hour of stargazing. :)

I watch out for them every year (if the sky's clear) and have seen many over the years (including an amazing meteor storm as a child). I'm living in the middle of a city now so wasn't expecting much due to light pollution, so I was very pleased to see one lonely meteor streak across the sky.

I am always too scared to look up when i hear that this is happening . I got up early as usual today and my son was sat up and he said he had not slept all night. He has not been able to see at all at night and his day vision has gone worse. I quickly got him to A and E and then got to go to an eye clinic by 8am. They said that he had a piece of metal in his left eye and that he was one of 10% of the population that can easily tear their retina. But for now he is ok as they took the metal out. He is 18 and asked me to get him vitamins, carrots and carrot juice as his froends have been looking up on the internet. Just bought this stuff for him. He was worried he was about to go blind. It was awful. He did not want to tell me as he thinks i have too much already with caring for 4 other family members. Now i am going to try and sleep.
