I think my strongest memory of the episode (apart from the drowning itself) will be the Mitchell sisters back to their old joyous selves on the dance floor. What a pity for them they ever moved to miserable Albert Square where all the happiness was ground out of them. The Mitchells should have warned them never to step foot in Walford...

The spell wore off at midnight.

I guess Jack was the fairy godmother since it was him who waved his metaphorical magic wand that granted their wish of moving to Ongar together.

On a serious note, there's lots of parallels between Ronnie (a tragic figure abused by her family (Archie) who loses everything (Danielle and James) then finds fleeting happiness with her prince) and the many traditional versions of Cinderella stories that go back centuries. There were many references weaved into the episode - including Jack being referred to as Ronnie's handsome prince, the magical appearance of her carriage (the red car from Phil) and of course the breaking of the spell at midnight.

It was cleverly done and I must admit to not picking up on most of what I've mentioned until reading the views of other fans on the internet tonight.

I avoid spoilers so didnt see this coming, I found it very dark and confusing visually, especially at the end but then its not EEs fault that my peepers suck.

Loved the Grimm fairy tale reference although the owners of the Hotel may not thank them for that.

Also totally missed the Max and drugs bit!

So did Roxy take drugs that night or not? Did Max supply the drugs? So confused.

Stacey should tell weird shorty hared Fowler to do one and if Martin dont like it he can go with her. A house guest does not tell you how long they are staying you tell them when the are leaving.

Honey was the only one really close to Ronnie, shame we didnt get her reaction, apart from Phil the others would be a bit more MEH about it.

Max just found the drugs in Roxy's bag. I don't think she had taken any that night.

Roxy took drugs at the Christmas traders do at Beales then left with Danny and Glenda, were they her suppliers?

This was all the night before the wedding

I think she might have already earlier that day took more before the wedding and was going to take more that night before Ronnie interrupted her with Max so the drugs could show up in her system

Jay was involved with her selling drugs but does he know she also took them

I think Max took the drugs for fear his prints were on them and also to prevent more bad news to Jack and Amy of Roxy's drug addiction

I am curious about what happens now to baby Matthew, will Charlie return for him or does Jack keep him? Could Glenda or Dot try for him?

Yes you must have However I do get your point.

I enjoyed the aftermath episode, especially the scenes with Dot and Max. Scott Maslen was excellent, his grief was so raw and felt real. When Sharon told Phil was a real choker.

I thought the Michelle scenes with Stacey and Martin broke the tension and were well played, nice touches mentioning Pauline. I can remember the Christmas meals at number 45 when the children sat on different tables to the adults. If there was any niggles in the episode, I can never remember Michelle being domesticated and cooking, that is not Michelle and also she wasn't overly close to Pauline as I recall. However love the actress Jenna Russell playing Michelle. Stacey was funny tonight the faces she was pulling.

I am just loving SOC's EastEnders, don't think I have mentioned it yet.

I was relieved when Max eventually got rid of the cocaine because I was on the edge of my seat all through the episode that the police or Jack were going to catch him with it and somehow blame him for the sisters' deaths.

I thought that too, but since the drugs Max found were given so much attention in Monday's episode I'm now wondering if she'd done some earlier in the day? I don't know how long cocaine stays in the system.

    I disagree.

I think the sudden deaths of two people who were so happy and in such tragic circumstances would be hugely shocking and very upsetting to anyone acquainted with them.

Thanks to being up very late last night with insomnia, I did quite a bit of reading about the Cinderella story. Variations have been around for centuries in many different cultures around the world (for example there are Far Eastern and Middle Eastern versions - including an Egyptian one where she marries the king of Egypt at the end).

Not all versions have happy endings: in some Cinderella meets a tragic fate. It's typical of EE that their version followed the latter course.
