It was rumoured that Billie Ashford may soon be killed off by Home And Away producers after tearful friends were seen kneeling at a memorial.

And now photographs have emerged that show mourners at an intimate beachside funeral for the popular character, who is played by Tessa De Josselin.

Billie's older brother Ash (George Mason) looked devastated as he walked along the beach holding an urn during filming at Sydney's Palm Beach on Monday.

It appears as though Billie lived long enough to give birth to her baby as her on-off boyfriend VJ Patterson (Matt Little) was seen cradling a newborn during the vigil.

VJ had an emotional moment with his mother, Leah Patterson (Ada Nicodemou), and they were seen embracing during a deep chat with Ash.

They were seen gathering at a shrine overlooking the surf at Summer Bay while filming scenes on Monday.

A portrait of Billie could be seen at the memorial alongside a surfboard and a flower arrangement.

Billie's former housemate Phoebe Nicholson (Isabella Giovinazzo) looked downcast as she watched the service.

Wearing a short black dress, Phoebe was supported by Pia Miller's character Katarina Chapman during the funeral.

Photographs emerged last week which showed Phoebe mourning her friend's death at a makeshift shrine on the beach.

Flowers were laid at the memorial along with personal notes and pictures of Billie and her boyfriend VJ.

One read: 'Darling Billie, RIP beautiful girl. Surf life forever'.

Another said: 'Beautiful Billie. I'm going to miss your beautiful smiling face in the surf every day. Love Katie.'

Earlier this year, Billie went through a terrifying ordeal when she was attacked and raped by a masked gunman following a night shift at the local gym.

She fell pregnant and it later emerged that she had been assaulted by Irene Roberts' estranged son Mike.

Billie, who is the younger sister of Ash (George Mason) kept the baby, but decided to keep the paternity secret.

She only confided in her housemate Phoebe

The pressure of the secret resulted in Billie jilting her schoolboy boyfriend VJ at the altar.

Photographs released earlier this month show Billie's attacker, Mike, returning to Summer Bay.

He was seen locked in a violent struggle with his estranged mother Irene, played by Lynne McGranger.

Interesting! Also the way VJ and Leah are holding the baby suggests its true paternity isn't known at this point (or if VJ knows he's keeping it to himself).

Agreed. It certainly looks that way, doesn't it. I think I remember commenting back when all this started something like I hoped Billie would come clean sooner rather than later, & it doesn't take until the baby is born & it needs a transfusion, or similar, for the true paternity to come out (i.e. at that point they would find out that VJ is not a compatible blood/DNA type etc). I wonder if this may end up being the case now? i.e. the baby does get sick at some stage?

SPOILER ALERT! Home And Away stars Ada Nicodemou and Lynne McGranger film emotional scenes with a pram after shock death rocks Summer Bay

Everything is about to change in Summer Bay with a major character due to be killed off.

And Home And Away fans have now been given their first glimpse of how Billie Ashford's death will impact others on the show.

Stars Ada Nicodemou and Lynne McGranger were spotted pushing a pram while filming scenes on Tuesday, suggesting both will play a part in the raising of her baby after her departure.

Ada's character Leah Patterson-Baker will play a central role since its assumed father is her on-screen son VJ, played by Matt Little.

However, the presence of Leah's close friend Irene Roberts, played by Lynne, hints that the true paternity of Billie's child may not be as it seems.

Earlier this year, Billie, who is played by Tessa de Josselin, was attacked and raped by Irene's estranged son Mick.

She fell pregnant and decided to keep the baby but not share its paternity.

She only confided in her housemate Phoebe Nicholson (Isabella Giovinazzo) and the pressure of the secret resulted in Billie jilting VJ at the altar when they were due to marry.

Also on set filming on Tuesday was Alec Snow, who plays Matt Page on the Channel Seven show.

In scenes filmed by the cast last month, VJ was seen cradling a newborn on set during filming of Billie's funeral.

The good news is that it's not all doom and gloom for Leah, as she also gets an exciting update on Billie Ashford's baby.

When VJ and Billie head off to attend a routine scan, they're divided over whether they should find out the baby's sex or not.

VJ doesn't know it, but Billie is also haunted by secret worries that the baby could somehow take after its real father Mick Jennings - the man who raped her.

After a conversation with Irene Roberts makes Billie realise that she has nothing to worry about, she finally agrees to finding out the baby's sex at the hospital – recognising that she'll love her child no matter what.

Leah urges the couple to keep quiet as she's determined to have the surprise when she meets her grandchild for the first time, but it doesn't take long before VJ slips up by revealing that it's a girl.

Instead of getting upset by his blabbermouth moment, Leah is excited and the trio celebrate the news with joy in heartwarming scenes. Is this exactly the light at the end of the tunnel that Leah needs at the moment?

Someone please correct me if my memory is wrong here, but my recollection is that after Billie was raped, she left town for a couple of weeks to get away from things, & then slept with VJ virtually straight after she got back. Then only a day or so later, she was feeling sick (after teaching a gym class?) & the lady doctor (who was with her after taking Billie's gym class?) took her to the hospital, where after taking tests, told (a shocked) Billie that she was pregnant & would have conceived a couple of weeks ago. This supposedly confirmed, unofficially, that VJ couldn't be father? & then after she discussed with Phoebe what had happened, prompted Billie to eventually sneak in & change the conception date on her hospital records to the date she slept with VJ. At this stage, an actual/official paternity test hasn't been done though.

My memory is that Billie slept with VJ for the first time just after she'd found out she was pregnant, but I admit I could be wrong about that.

I just had a quick look thru the episode summaries etc & found out the following: Episode 6413 (Mon May 2 in Aust) Billie was raped at the end of this episode. Episode 6414 (Tue 3 May) the aftermath of the rape & Billie tells Oscar what happened & that she is going away for a while, & gets him to promise he won't tell anyone. The next couple of episodes are the explosion/Oscar dying etc. Episode 6419 (Mon May 9) Billie returns & VJ turns up at the farmhouse - they sleep together. Episode 6420 (Tue May 10) Dylan takes Ash & then Kat hostage & when Billie turns up he throws her to the floor. Afterwards, Billie collapses & is taken to the hospital. After the lady doc takes tests, she says to Billie "Did you have any idea you are pregnant?" Billie says "What!". It sounds like the doc then says "Your Beta NCA? levels are elevated about 25, which means you probably would have conceived about 10 days ago".
(So Billie finds out she is pregnant after the hostage situation, not after the gym class I mentioned before. And she is told she is about 10 days pregnant, only the day after sleeping with VJ)
