    Sharif Nazir (Marc Anwar)

Coronation Street will be revealing a surprising secret from Sharif Nazir's past next week. And no, it's nothing to do with his chicken obsession or his allotments hobby!

Sharif (Marc Anwar) gets very nervous when an old family friend called Sonia Rahman pays an unexpected visit to Weatherfield - and it turns out that he has good reason to be worried.

Sonia's arrival comes just as Sharif and his wife Yasmeen (Shelley King) are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary with help from their grandchildren, who've thoughtfully organised a small party for them.

Sadly, the happy occasion is interrupted when Sonia (Sudha Bhucar) suddenly arrives in tears - revealing that her husband has kicked her out.

While Yasmeen welcomes Sonia with open arms and promises that she can stay for as long as she likes, Sharif is visibly nervous and far less warm towards her.

The reason for Sharif's anxiety later becomes clear when Sonia pulls him aside, promising him that she has no plans to rock the boat by exposing the 7-year affair they once had.

Yep, that's right - Sharif is a love cheat!

When it later becomes clear that Sonia really is in no hurry to move out from the Nazir house again, Sharif gets tough by warning that he won't be risking his marriage for her. How will Sonia react to his no-nonsense rejection?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, August 22 and Wednesday, August 24 on ITV.

I am gutted that the scriptwriters decided on yet another affair

this is obviously Kate Oates's doing. How ridiculous! This family hasn't ever had a good story line (besides Yasmeen vs sally as that was hilarious). An affair? seriously how boring. As this is a Muslim family the writers have an opportunity to do an Islamophobia story line where they're targeted by bigots, which reflecst what's happening in the real world but instead are going with this nonsense.

Yes, this would be a good storyline here especially as the family (apart from Zeedan's sex before marriage taboo) are not particularly strict Muslims so it could be a good Islamaphobia story with a family who quite clearly are not a danger to anyone.

there are so so many muslims who arent a threat to anyone and have to deal with bigots bullcrap? Everyday they do! its horrible. i've seen it and if its hard to see i can only imagine how hard it is to actually go through.

    storylines for the Nazirs

That would be good as it is unfortunately a reality now. I dread reading the papers everyday as the majority of us are peaceful and liberal minded like the Nazirs. My elderly mother got a lot of abuse when she went shopping once it was awful.
