I know it sounds a bit strange, but I can't help having the feeling that somehow DTC confuses the actors with the characters. He is very fond of Matt di Angelo, Adam Woodyat and Laurie Brett as people and actors and that's why he fannied around for so long before he had Dean arrested and why he's allowing Ian and Jane to get away with what they've done and why he has portrayed all three of them sympathetically.

I was definitely under that impression with Matt di Angelo. The Dean rape storyline was prolonged for what felt like forever at the time and it was obvious from the way the story was told that they changed their minds about the outcome at some point because (as we speculated at the time) they wanted to keep Matt around for longer. That certainly felt to me like what was happening. And Dean's ultra sympathetic portrayal thoroughly disgusted me!

The difference with the Bobby storyline is that, in my opinion, DTC and co almost certainly never had any intention of Ian, Jane, Sharon and Phil's reprehensible actions being discovered by the police, because no producer would want to lose four such important characters from the show at once. That's why I said a while back I couldn't see anyone but Jane (as the least iconic of the quartet) facing legal repercussions.

I don't feel as strongly as some of you about Ian and Jane purely because their motives in allowing Max to be imprisoned weren't malicious, and because Max conspired with Kat to do something similar to Alice to save Stacey so is getting a dose of karma. They're all as bad as each other in my opinion!

Let's hope SOC makes an effort to change some of these iconic characters into likeable people we can root for again (though needless to say Phil's beyond saving).

I might be back when Max returns in September to see what happens then.

Meanwhile, it's off to Corrie full time!
I can understand this too as I am so mad with the writers for the aftermath of Bobby confessing does Lauren really think a letter can fix what she did to Max and why is Abi not more angry with her and has Dot made any comment to her or Ian about Max going to prison

No way can the police really think Bobby did it all alone, Keeble I thought was smart

Jane while paralysed now still should be in trouble with the law

Paul was good with Les but I don't like his little snide comments to Ben about Abi i.e. beard etc., as bad as she is lying to keep Ben, Paul went with him even when he was with her

I find Lauren and Stephen's relationship very forced

I was hoping Max would show up in the pub and let everyone know what he thought of them for letting him go down to save Bobby

I hope he gets revenge on them all

phil and jane deserve to go to prison i wouldn't mind ian getting community service but it is a complete farce ignoring the fact they knew and helped and are getting no punishment in legal terms, marsbar would want phil in prison get her back investigating

Yes, Marsden would definitely get in on the action and confront Phil.

As I don´t watch EE regularly I need to ask this ... is it definite that Ian and Jane´s conduct will not be investigated?

No it isn't, but it seem likely because Bobby said he acted alone and the police have apparently accepted that without question (even though Lucy walking to the common after being hit on the head is a complete retcon).

Jane (and Ian) have had a dose of karma because Jane is severely injured, and I'd bet DTC thinks that's enough (he's misread the fans there). It's not likely any of them will see the inside of a prison because they're such big characters and I think community service would be laughable after what they've done.

Sharon and (especially) Phil are guilty too of course.

However...it is possible we've jumped the gun and there's another twist coming which will see those who colluded to cover up Bobby's crime punished by law. I hope that's the case.

Thank you Dazzle and I totally agree ... it would be absolutely wrong for all those that colluded in protecting Bobby get away with it ... Jane suffering the head injury is not enough Karma in my opinion ...

Yes, it's true we don't know how this will eventually play out, especially when Max returns. There may be more to come. There is also the little matter of Phil bribing the foreman of the jury as well, which is definitely a custodial sentence crime.

But, as I said before, what really sticks in my craw at the moment is the portrayal of Jane and Ian as two people for whom we are supposed to feel sympathy.
