I can't see this posted anywhere else but I hope Jason Merrells does return. Declan can get with Charity, romantically ensuring she doesn't end up with Ross... (Declan never did find out that Ross stole all those cars with Cain from him)

Jason Merrells misses Emmerdale – could Declan Macey be heading back?

He had arguably one of the most exhilarating exits that soap has ever seen – and he is still very much out there somewhere so could Declan Macey be set to make an explosive return to Emmerdale?

Viewers last saw the unhinged businessman waving a gun around and threatening his sister Megan as he sought revenge on his ex-wife Charity. The stand off followed an on location thriller storyline which culminated in a battle on top of a speedboat and the tragic death of Declan’s nephew Robbie.

Declan certainly went out with a bang – and actor Jason Merrells has admitted that he does miss working on the show.

He told Inside Soap magazine: ‘I miss the speed of the show, and the buzz you get from knocking it out of the park every day.’

So would he be tempted to go back? Well, he isn’t ruling it out but it doesn’t sound like it’s on the agenda in the near future.

He added: I think we did everything we possibly could with Declan. I don’t think there’s any unfinished business. Well, not at the moment….’

He was full of priase for his character’s ending though. He enthused: That was my favourite bit of the whole Emmerdale experience. It was like being in a mini-movie!’

Since leaving Emmerdale, Jason – also famous for roles in Waterloo Road and Cutting It – has been busy, with parts in Death In Paradise and Safe House. His next role will be on stage alongside former EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite in a West End production of How The Other Half Loves.

Why you so against Charity and Ross getting together? It would be such a fun and drama filled relationship. It would also be scope for a future storyline when Debbie returns.

Well whilst yes they do seem to have fun, relationships do need to be serious as well otherwise what's the point.

Donna was the perfect example of what Ross wanted - Young, family focuses with a daughter and allows him to do his dodgy jobs. She even helped.

I think Debbie is a bit like Donna. They're both strong willed women who don't take any crap. I don't think Ross would ever go out with a weak push over woman. Even at the end Debbie forgave him about the robbery. So I think she was warming to the fact that he will always do that stuff.

If the powers at be want Ross and Debbie to be together then they are going to have to stop her being so uptight and boring. Obviously they had to write her that way as she was leaving for a bit. But they wont work if she is still the same as before. Ross will never change. But he still has done a pretty good job with Moses even though he is still doing dodgy stuff. He could keep the family life that Debbie wants separate.

I agree with that. I think that's what KO was going for, we'll have to see where this new producer takes them. I've not heard anything from him about Ross or the other Bartons at this point.

Yeah I find that kind of weird. The new producer probably wants to focus on Charity/Cain this year so Ross will probably just be a background character in that storyline, but he did say Emma would get more deranged in an upcoming storyline. I don't know how I feel about that.
