You're right. I've rewatched the episode and Moria introduced Adam to Ross.

I think Ross getting away with what he has done is more to do with the fact other people cover for him, give him alibi's etc more than huge intelligence on his part really.
Ross may have a lot of luck but he does have a brain as well, the amount of jobs he's planned, the people he has blackmailed, how quick witted he is and how he always has an alibi isn't luck. Also Adam didn't recognise Ross so there is no way Holly would remember him so she is obviously going off what Moira has told her and Moira has always seemed to favour Pete over Ross.

Yeah everyone slates Ross and calls him stupid within the Barton family but everyone at one point had called on him for his help Cain included. I'm not saying Ross is a genius but he's more than just a thug IMO .

True! at least the writers made Ross point that out when Moira met up with him to help sell Charity's car.

Whilst it's not commonly used in this fashion, i think the word 'stupid' now also means reckless, doesn't think about the aftermath.

I think that's what the writers are getting at.

I would just like to see Ross challenge Charity a bit more ans show her that he has a brain otherwise she will just con him in the future like she does to everyone.

I think the writers are forgetting that Charity got caught in her last scheme and was therefore locked up whereas Ross (all be it by luck at times) has gotten away with everything. Also the other night Ross went on one job for 5 minutes and nicked 10k worth of merchandise yet they made out he needs Charitys help all of the time. Dont get me wrong I like the Ross/Charity pairing but I just dont want it to end up like it usually does with Charity's men, they either die or leave (apart from Cain)

Well I have recently re-watched some Ross' early episodes to see if this is a change to his character for what we are used to.

I think the telling episode is when Ross plans to steal a car from Home Farm (when Declan was there). He asked Cain for his help originally but carried on with his scheme without. Eventually Cain then came onto the scene and they stole more than just the one car.

Later episodes show that Ross does have a lacky for most of his schemes:

Aaron - Home Farm raid, warehouse robbery
    Debbie - Ripping of Charlie
