    You're right Louise that the soaps used to make an effort to portray their less well off characters realistically and unglamorously. However, realism was long ago abandoned.
    I agree Dazzle and Louise P with what you have
    both said.
    What concerns me apart from lack of realism-
    is that in people who have no idea of money
    planning or supportive family - it encourages
    some people to think they should be entitled
    to have things/do things they dont have enough
    money for and get into debt. It takes a lot longer
    ti get out of debt than into it.

    Soaps pride themselves on showing " gritty"
    subjects - serious illnesses and crimes etc.
    Perhaps some time on the drudgery of
    debt -but no because thats boring!!

    P.S . I used to be able to do a passable
    impression of Hilda singing -off key?!
