Hollyoaks fans will see Esther Bloom make a bold move on New Year's Eve, deciding to show gangster Grace Black how she really feels about her.

Esther (Jazmine Franks) recently confided in Nancy Osborne by revealing that she had fallen for Grace, but she was thwarted when the blonde bombshell embarked on a romance with Darren instead.

Scenes airing later this month will see Esther filled with fresh hope of making progress with Grace (Tamara Wall) when Darren decides to dump her.

The friends are then brought even closer together when Esther forgets to make a cake for Tom Cunningham's 16th birthday on New Year's Eve and Grace kindly offers to help.

Grace takes the opportunity to open up to Esther about her disastrous love life, lamenting her short romance with Darren and the destructive way things ended with Trevor Royle.

As Grace pours her heart out, Esther is desperate to tell her how she feels and later decides that there's no better time when the locals gather for the New Year countdown. Will Grace respond to Esther's advances, or leave her crushed by rejecting her?

Meanwhile, new Hollyoaks pictures show Freddie Roscoe returning to our screens after a two-month absence.

Freddie (Charlie Clapham) will reappear in the show's New Year's Eve episode when he gets to know the village's glamorous newcomer Ellie Nightingale.

Ellie (Sophie Porley) is partying with friends in Brighton at New Year when she meets Freddie, who is now in witness protection following the events of the 20th anniversary week.

Freddie introduces himself to Ellie as 'Mark', but his night of fun may be interrupted with DS Thorpe watching his every move.

And could Ellie find herself in Lindsey's sinister sights if she finds out about her New Year flirtation with Freddie?
