Is it just me who thinks Mary and Tom should get together? They've got so much in common and I somehow can't see her and that racing driver happily married. I'm kind of hoping Mary's hit by a bolt of lightning and realises she's fallen for the decent Tom while she wasn't looking. Is she capable of "marrying down" though?

Nobody loves Thomas. I know he's brought it upon himself but I can't help feeling sad for him.

re Mary &Tom -Ive always thought they would
be a good match!.Even when she at her most
frost-faced-she becomes more human in his
    company.
From 1840s??to 1907 it was illegal for a man
to marry his deceased wifes sister (in England)
-so it would be possible legally.
Between 1907 -1921 it was possible for individual
clergy to refuse to carry out such ceremonies!
From 1700s to 1840 -it was legal-but interested
parties could have the marriages voided.
A complicated matter invooving both civil & canon
    law .
Whether there would be any residual stigma
in "high society" -I dont know? There were famous
cases regarding writers/ artists but would Lady
    Mary .....

Re Thomas -he was really quite evil in
early series but mellowed a bit and trying
    to change??
A bit of a change from.Corrie for actor!!
    He plays the part well!

Christmas Day episode on at 9-00pm, I believe it's a 90min special which of course will be the finale. Something to look forward to. I'm sure most are aware of Maggie Smith's latest film due for release at the cinema 13th.Nov. Written by Alan Bennett titled " The Lady In The Van". If the trailer is anything to go by looks really good, but with two class acts of Miss Smith and Mr Bennett I'm sure it will be.

Thanks v much for info Glen
Christmas Day wouldnt be the same without it!

Julian Fellowes had said that while the ending
wont be too tidy - we will kniw what the future
    holds for the characters!
Didnt see how they could do that by Episode 8-
    a lot of storylines!

And great news about Maggie Smiths new film- thanks
