Over on EastEnders, Kathy Beale will continue to reconnect with her estranged family when Ian arranges a surprise dinner for her.

With Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) back in the Square, a delighted Ian decides to organise a surprise meal so that she can see Dot Branning and Martin Fowler for the first time since her return.

As Ian makes his plans, he remains unaware that Kathy is actually planning to flee with her other son Ben Mitchell in a bid to protect Phil, who is still missing.

Ben and Kathy are persisting with their plan to leave Walford, but Kathy gets more than she bargained for when an oblivious Ian turns up with Dot and Martin to announce his dinner plans.

Kathy is left feeling guiltier than ever when Dot shares some home truths with her once they are alone. Will Kathy still follow through with her plan to leave with Ben?

So much for promising never to leave Ian again. They're really not writing Kathy as very likeable at the moment.

The writing for her return storyline is ridiculous

I think some parts have been good (the confrontation with Jane, Ben's angry reaction), some parts have been underwhelming (Ian's almost instant acceptance, Kathy's nonchalant reaction to coming face-to-face with both her sons) and some downright ludicrous (the suicide attempt). Disappointing over all.

Jane wants kathy to confess to the police. Pot kettle black comes to mind. Fed up of jane now...ruined a once likeable character.

She was trying to get rid of Kathy last week too. I think Jane's worried Kathy will turn Ian against her if she finds out about what Bobby (and Jane) did.

Once Kathy's return is publicly known, I wonder how they're going to wriggle their way out of explaining why Peter doesn't come back to come see her.
