Yes, I think youtube must have made changes. The s means it is a secure site so presumably before they didn't have the certificate or whatever it is that gets the s to appear. I'm not used to seeing the s on sites I'm not spending/accessing money on!
I posted videos years ago without changing the address in any way. There must be a default that only embeds http:// videos or something. Presumably if it was changed then any videos not on a https:// would fall over in the same way (DailyMotion is one, I believe.)
