EASTENDERS hardman Phil Mitchell looks set to go down for a murder he didn't do. Phil to be nicked for murderEnders for Footy Chucky Venn Soap boozer is really teetotalCops try to pin the death of ex-fiancée Stella Crawford on him.

They re-open old cases after Phil — played by Steve McFadden — is arrested for the killing of car-lot manager Kevin Wicks.

Stella — played by Sophie Thompson — leapt to her death on their wedding day in 2007 after a roof-top exchange with Phil.

Phil is left staring at a double murder charge in the gripping storyline, which is currently being filmed.

It puts Queen Vic and R&R owner Phil at the centre of all the action from Christmas Day well into 2012.

An insider said: "The police have always been interested in Phil and with his chequered history his many ghosts from his past are coming back to haunt him.

"It's been a long time since Phil thought about Stella so when the police bring her up he's not at all happy. He didn't murder her but it's not looking good for him."

The insider added: "On paper Stella was a harmless spinster but, as everyone knows, she was a deranged loony who abused Phil's son Ben. There's a lot of trouble ahead for Phil as the cops are desperate to lock him up and throw away the key."

In 2005 Phil, who first appeared in the soap in 1990, was cleared of armed robbery after his brother Grant paid off witnesses.

EASTENDERS hardman Phil Mitchell's nightmare begins next week when he's arrested in a dawn raid.

The police turn up with a search warrant in the early hours of the morning in scenes to be aired next Tuesday.

Phil, played by Steve McFadden, is currently hiding a case of stolen watches.

He breathes a sigh of relief when the cops turn up nothing but panics when they say they will apply for warrants for his pub the Queen Vic, the garage at the Arches and nightclub R&R.

A source said: "At first Phil is really worried but then he becomes angry about the sudden police attention.

"He knows he's got an enemy out there and he vows to finally root them out."

Sounds like someone is trying to Mitch him up!

Former EastEnders star Phil Daniels has argued that it's time to cancel the BBC soap.

The actor, who played Kevin Wicks between 2006 and 2007, believes that the show has run its course after 30 years.

Daniels told The Sun: "I'd take it off the telly if I could. I just think it's run its course. It's nothing to do with any of the acting as I think people do really good work in it.

"I just feel that it is time for something different. EastEnders and Coronation Street seem a bit like the opium of the masses now. Why don't they try something else for the British public?"

Daniels also criticised the London soap for its gloomy plots, adding that he wasn't happy with how miserable his character became.

"I went into the show to be a comedy part," he explained. "Then the gags started disappearing and I had a kid that died of cystic fibrosis and a wife that was violent.

"My character got more and more miserable. I just don't think they've got the writers for gags on that show. They need a few more jokes."

I must admit that I currently feel the same and not just EastEnders

Yep he maybe right, it is so dull now, most storylines have been done before or are copied from other soaps.
Maybe something new and not been done before.
What about Sibling attraction, (don't think it's been done before) or at the very least a very close relative.
Maybe Kat's son could end up meeting someone on the Square (Stacey??) and no one knows who he is, STacey and him fall in love, and only the viewers know who he is.
The Script writers could decide how far this is to go, but I am sure in this day and age, with kids being adopted, fostered etc, that it must surely happen!

    I am soooooooooooooo boredddddddddddddddd

Brookside had an incest storyline when it was running, I think Hollyoaks did too but (don't watch it, not sure), Emmerdale had it with Ryan Lamb and Maisie Wylde (they did not know they were siblings), so I think this storyline would not be novel
