Chris Fountain has been sacked by Coronation Street.

The ITV soap chose to terminate the actor's contract after suspending him over a series of offensive rap videos posted online.

The actor - who played Tommy Duckworth - met with show bosses today (August 19) to discuss his future on the show following his suspension at the end of last week.

An ITV spokesman said: "Chris Fountain's contract with ITV has been terminated as a result of the unacceptable comments he made in a number of online clips."

Fountain had filmed himself wearing a Halloween mask and delivered a number of obscene and expletive-filled rhymes, which included boasts of violence and rape.

Following his suspension, he said in a statement: "I would like to sincerely apologise for any offence I have caused. I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behaviour.

"The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music, and I've not done anything like it since and nor will I."

He has continued to appear on the show since news of his suspension broke, as he is currently involved in an important storyline with Michelle Keegan's character Tina McIntyre.

It is unclear whether scenes featuring him will continue to be broadcast following his dismissal.

It has been very damaging for corrie as he was at the centre of a major storyline. All the rewriting of scripts and all the lost footage. How are they going to explain his exit.?

    i'm surprised at itv's decision.

there are many story's on the web concerning chris and certain cast members. for obvious reasons i won't repeat these. who knows whats true? i'm sure as we breath they are in the red tops and the editors are rubbing their grubby little hands. however itv could have a problem.

chris has been very silly and should be punished, but sacked?

i hope chris learns from this. he is a talented actor and i'm sure he will go onto better things in the future.

Coronation Street bosses have apparently already shot a scene to explain the sudden exit of Tommy Duckworth, played by Chris Fountain who was sacked yesterday (August 19).

The actor - who has starred as Tommy since 2011 - was fired by producers after offensive rap videos he posted online were deemed "unacceptable".

Fountain had filmed himself wearing a Halloween mask and delivered a number of obscene and expletive-filled rhymes, which included boasts of violence and rape.

In a statement released following his dismissal, he said: "I completely understand that ITV had no choice but to terminate my contract today. I have had two wonderful years playing Tommy Duckworth with only happy memories of my time on Coronation Street."

The soap has already shot a sequence which reveals Tommy's departure, according to the Daily Star.

The scene, added yesterday, explains that Tommy has flown away from Weatherfield following a fight with girlfriend Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan).

Tina arrives back at their flat when David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) tells her: "Tommy proper kicked off. He packed a bag and went off to the airport."

Axed Coronation Street star Chris Fountain has issued a statement following the termination of his contract with the ITV soap.

Fountain was fired by producers after offensive rap videos he posted online were deemed "unacceptable".

He was suspended pending further investigation on Friday (August 16) and met with bosses today to discuss his future.

Fountain had filmed himself wearing a Halloween mask and delivered a number of obscene and expletive-filled rhymes, which included boasts of violence and rape.

In a statement, Fountain said: "I completely understand that ITV had no choice but to terminate my contract today. I have had two wonderful years playing Tommy Duckworth with only happy memories of my time on Coronation Street.

"I am mortified that I have brought so much embarrassment to my colleagues and employers these last few days. My biggest regret however is not to do with losing my job, but that I have hurt and let down so many people including those in a vulnerable situation and I am so very deeply ashamed of this."

He continued: "I am also mortified to have put my mother, grandad and girlfriend through the last few days which they are hurt and bewildered by and so do not deserve. I am so sorry.

"The lyrics that appeared online were influenced by a style of hiphop that I was experimenting with at a private freestyle session and blurted out in a moment of madness.

"There is absolutely no excuse - I take complete responsibility for my actions - but they were in no way thought out or represent at all my attitude towards women, rape and violence.

"I just want to apologise from the bottom of my heart to everyone who I have offended or upset."
