    Exclamation Uncle Walter

Neighbours' Sonya Mitchell will be given a new insight into her past when she meets a long-lost family member.

Sonya, played by Eve Morey, is surprised and intrigued as she comes face-to-face with her uncle Walter in an upcoming storyline.

Walter's first scenes see him make a mysterious entrance into Erinsborough, watching Sonya's every move from afar.

When he finally introduces himself, Sonya is shocked as she had always thought that most of her blood relatives were dead.

Sonya's initial surprise later turns to joy when Walter shares his recollections of her childhood, which bring out her own long-forgotten memories.

He also gives Sonya some advice on troubles she is facing with her son Callum (Morgan Baker).

Although everything seems to be going well, Sonya's husband Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney) is less enthusiastic over the new arrival, reminding his partner that Walter is still a stranger and she shouldn't get carried away.

With Sonya still keen to keep seeing Walter, time will only tell whether he'll turn out to be a friend or foe for the family.

Neighbours airs these scenes later this month on Eleven in Australia, and in July on Channel 5 in the UK.

Neighbours bosses have released the first official picture of new guest character Walter Mitchell.

As previously reported, Walter is the long-lost uncle of established regular Sonya (Eve Morey) and will shake up life for the Rebecchi family when he makes his surprise appearance on Ramsay Street.

Actor Chris Haywood has been cast in the role of Walter. He will be a familiar face for Australian TV fans as he has previously starred in All Saints, Home and Away, Water Rats, McLeod's Daughters and Stingers among other shows.

Haywood's film credits include Beneath Hill 60, False Witness and Jindabyne.

Walter's first scenes introduce him as a "mysterious visitor" to Erinsborough who watches Sonya from afar.

When he finally tells Sonya who he is, Walter seems reluctant to disclose too much information about his past. However, as the Rebecchis get used to having Walter around, one of the other local residents will be smitten with him.

Neighbours airs Walter's entrance on Monday (June 17) in Australia and on July 15 in the UK.
