Emmerdale star Sian Reese-Williams has revealed that she 'cried like a baby' the day she quit the soap.

It was recently announced that the actress, who plays Gennie Sharma, was leaving the role after five years.

However, Reese-Williams has revealed that she has known about her plans for nearly a year after deciding not to renew her current contract.

She told the Daily Star: "I remember crying a lot. I think I started crying before I had even spoken the words out loud. I'm a cry baby anyway so it was going to happen.

"That day feels like a lifetime ago but it's suddenly here."

Reese-Williams said that she informed bosses of her leaving plans a long time ago to ensure that her character was given a great exit.

The actress said: "I've had a brilliant time here but I was never going to stay forever, I want to move on and do other things. For me that's the point of being an actor.

"I've loved playing Gennie but I love playing other people as well."
