Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley has bemoaned the fact that she never gets approached by men outside of the show, and has suggested that her on-screen alter ego might put them off.

The 28-year-old has been single since joining Coronation Street as man-eater Eva Price a year ago.

Speaking to The Mirror, Tyldesley said: "I'm so disillusioned with men at the moment.

"When I'm out I never get approached, unless it's by some drunken idiot. I get the occasional person who will talk to me and there has been some interest, but nothing outrageous. I certainly don't get chatted up.

"Possibly men are intimidated by my screen character, I don't know. I've been single for a while. I've been on a couple of dates, but it's been quite a long time now."

However, she went on the explain: "I'm not bothered, though. I haven't got the time and it's not a priority. It wouldn't be fair to be in a relationship. Work is full-on at the minute so it would be a case of, 'Well, I can fit you in between three and four'."

Tyldesley has previously spoken of her desire for a long future in the soap, an ambition she reiterated to The Mirror, saying: "I'd like to stay in Coronation Street for as long as they'll have me. I'm really happy here."

This woman is so far up herself she will soon need her own thread. ''Catherine Tyldesley talks bout everthing but mostly herself''

CORONATION Street chiefs were branded “miseries” last night for playing down the Olympics.

Bosses have ruled that the Games will barely feature in the ITV soap while London hosts the 16-day sporting extravaganza.

By contrast BBC’s EastEnders will feature Billy Mitchell — played by Perry Fenwick — carrying the Olympic Torch through Walford.

And Queen Vic regulars will be frequently chatting about the Games.

But Corrie fans won’t witness such sporting passion 200 miles away in Weatherfield and the Rovers Return.

A Street source revealed: “Any references (to the Olympics) will be in passing and relevant to how it affects our residents, so not overt or heavy at all.

“Its different for EastEnders as it’s on their doorstep.”

But a Corrie insider blasted: “It’s bad form because the Olympics is a national cause for celebration, not just a reason for the East End of London to be happy.

“In the past, the Street has caught the public imagination by recognising things like the World Cup and Royal occasions.

“Millions of fans love Corrie for its sense of humour, but the execs are being a load of miseries over the Olympics by refusing to join in.”

Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati has revealed that she was forced to quit Twitter over "violent, vitriolic" racist abuse.

The actress, who plays Sunita Alahan on the ITV soap, announced that she was leaving the social networking site on June 17.

"Tweets ta dees need another twitter break," she wrote. "Thanks for the banter the follows the support loved being back but now time to sort other stuff."

Explaining her decision to exit Twitter, Gulati confessed that she could no longer tolerate "psycho[s]" calling her things like "not British" and "the ugliest f**ker ever seen".

"Being racially abused on Twitter really shook me up," she told The Sun. "It felt like going back in time to the 1970s.

"It put me in mind of a psycho - like a horror movie. I just decided enough was enough.

"I tried to ignore it but it started to affect my confidence. Violent, vitriolic hatred gives people their moment in the spotlight. It beggars belief."

Gulati previously slammed the 'misogynistic' response from Twitter users to Sunita's affair with Karl Munro (John Michie), though she later claimed to revel in the controversy caused by the storyline.

Coronation Street's Shobna Gulati and John Barrowman have been named as 2012's winners of 'Rear of the Year'.

The pair inherited the title from last year's winners Carol Vorderman and Anton du Beke after topping a public vote.

Speaking after her victory, Gulati - who plays Sunita Alahan on the ITV soap - declared: "I am really honoured and flattered to be a winner of this year's competition and for my bum to be etched into the history of the award's alumni - a list which includes so many other distinguished bottoms.

"And I'd also like to say... in the words of will.i.am, 'I got it from my mama'."

Barrowman added: "With tush tightly toned, cheeks firmly clenched and a big smile on my face, I'm thrilled to be awarded the accolade."

The Torchwood star also posted a thank you message on Twitter in which he revealed that he won 'Rear of the Year' "by a landslide".

Gulati and Barrowman were described by Sally Allen of sponsors Wizard Jeans as "two excellent examples of this year's ideal rear".

She said: "Shobna's slim but womanly silhouette is a fine example of the happy, healthy female form for 2012 and John's rear is clearly admired on an international basis, judging by the number of fans who voted for him. No doubt his dancing prowess helps to keep him in tremendous shape."

Previous winners of 'Rear of the Year' include Jennifer Ellison, Rachel Stevens, Will Young and Gulati's Corrie co-star Ryan Thomas.

The actress, who plays Weatherfield's Sophie Webster, is filming an ITV documentary titled Corrie Goes To Kenya with some of her soap colleagues. The one-off programme will raise awareness of HIV in the country.
Vincent became emotional when visiting children in a Kenyan slum two days ago, the Daily Star reports.

A source told the newspaper: "Brooke was moved to tears by these kids, not because they lived in such awful conditions but because they live life with a smile on their faces despite the hardships."

Vincent later tweeted that she was "humbled" by the experience. Meanwhile, Jason Grimshaw actor Ryan Thomas - who is also filming the documentary - said that the visit has been "life-changing".

Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw) and Ben Price (Nick Tilsley) are also thought to be involved in the project.

Corrie Goes To Kenya will air in July.
Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver has been hospitalised after contracting a mystery illness while filming in Kenya.

Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw in the ITV soap, was taking part in a documentary called Corrie Goes To Kenya with fellow cast members Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster), Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) and Ben Price (Nick Tilsley).

As part of the programme, the stars visited local tribes who are still struggling after last year's famine. They also aimed to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS.

Cleaver, 47, began to feel ill after returning to the UK. She was rushed to hospital and underwent emergency testing to rule out the possibility that she had contracted malaria.

After doctors determined that she was clear of the disease, the actress was sent home to recover, but continues to feel unwell. It is not known when she will be able to return to the soap.

"No-one really knows what's wrong with Sue, but she's been feeling very ill," a source told The Mirror.

"It started pretty much as soon as she got back from Kenya.

"Obviously serious alarm bells start ringing when you come back from Africa feeling unwell *because you hear so many horror stories about people contracting *diseases out there."

The source added: "Sue spent a lot of time with children in *orphanages. She ate food cooked in the traditional way, often out in the bush. It means there were a great many times when she could have picked up a bug."

The paper reports that Cleaver was not due to film many scenes last week, meaning there was little disruption to the schedule.

"It may become a *problem if she's off too much longer," the insider added. "Having said that, all the bosses are concerned about is her recovery."

Corrie Goes To Kenya is due to air later this month.

Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent has revealed that she would consider adopting a child from Kenya in the future.

The actress, who plays Sophie Webster on the soap, recently visited the East African country to film upcoming ITV documentary Corrie Goes To Kenya.

Speaking to Digital Spy at T4 on the Beach yesterday (July 1), Vincent confirmed that the emotional trip was a life-changing experience.

She commented: "I am so proud to stand here and to tell you everything that I've done.

"I'm so proud, because I've seen so many different things and it's made me open my eyes to the real world and appreciate everything that I've got.

"Definitely when I'm old enough and when I'm in a stable house, everything's going okay, I've got a… well, obviously I've got a stable job, but stuff like that - I would definitely think about adopting."

Vincent's Coronation Street co-stars Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw) and Ben Price (Nick Tilsley) were also involved in the documentary, which aims to raise awareness of HIV in the country.

Corrie Goes To Kenya is expected to air on ITV1 in a few weeks' time.
