EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa has expressed surprise over her British Soap Award nomination for 'Sexiest Female'.

The 19-year-old, who plays troubled Lauren Branning on the BBC show, has made the shortlist for this year's gong alongside former Walford colleague Preeya Kalidas, Coronation Street's Michelle Keegan and Hollyoaks' Jorgie Porter.

Jossa has now joked that she is confused by the nod as she finds Lauren's ongoing drinking problem and hangovers far from attractive.

She told The Sun: "The other girls are all very, very sexy! How can I be up against Michelle Keegan? I don't know how I am nominated, all I do is throw up!

"Maybe it's because Lauren is just your normal girl, a plain Jane, but maybe people see a sexy side to her. I think some girls relate to her, although maybe not all of them have run over their dad.

"I am excited about it because it is nice to be nominated, but I'm nervous as well because people will be expecting me to be sexy and I am just not. I like getting dressed up, though, because Lauren never does so it is nice to put on some make-up and do something different."

Jossa has already won a prize this year as she secured the 'Best Newcomer' title at the National Television Awards in January.

The British Soap Awards take place in London on Saturday (April 28).
