Jamie Lomas is reportedly being considered for a role in Coronation Street.

The former Hollyoaks actor, whose fiancée Kym Marsh plays Michelle Connor in the ITV1 soap, is said to be in the running to play Carla Connor's long-lost brother.

The bad-boy character will be a womaniser and become the new factory boss, arriving in the soap within the next few months. It is unknown whether the character will be permanent, but producers apparently want him to make an impact on the Street.

Marsh reportedly told friends: "I'm so excited. It looks like he's *getting the part."

A friend told the Sunday Mirror: "She is really* *excited by the prospect of working with Jamie. After the ups and downs of the past few weeks, she thinks they should be *spending as much time together as possible.

"She's the first to admit they have a volatile relationship. When he was in America their *relationship was under a bit of strain but Kym put on a brave face. It was *extremely tough on her. The prospect of him moving out there long-term was *worrying.

"But now it looks as though he's going to land regular work, not only in the UK but on Corrie. She couldn't be happier."

Marsh is reportedly about to sign a new contract to stay at Coronation Street for another year.

A show insider added: "We have some *exciting storylines for Carla's brother. He's set to be a brilliant *character.

"We think Jamie would be perfect as a bad-boy womaniser, so we're keen for him to take the part. You never know, he could end up making a play for Kym's *character."

Marsh has previously confessed that she wants Lomas to join Coronation Street.

He was previously said to be in talks to star in a Hollywood movie after spending the past few months looking for work in LA.

Marsh dismissed claims that he had "abandoned" her following reports their relationship was in crisis.

Ex-EastEnder Marc Bannerman has revealed he would like to star in Coronation Street as Carla Connor's brother.
The 38-year-old actor played Albert Square geezer Gianni Di Marco 12 years ago, but told Inside Soap he has his eye on the cobbles now.
Marc said: "I'd love to be in another soap. I really loved the relationships we built up in EastEnders, and the fact you get such a long time to develop your character.
"I hear they're casting for Carla Connor's brother in Corrie at the moment - I'd love to do that."
Corrie bosses are on the hunt for an actor to play a mysterious bad boy who will arrive on the soap to help Carla, played by Alison King, run the Underworld factory this summer.
In EastEnder's Marc's character Gianni was the victim of domestic violence at the hands of girlfriend Jackie Owen, played by Race Davies.
He recalled: "That was quite ground-breaking at the time - the man being the victim of the abuse."

Coronation Street bosses have announced that actor Marc Baylis has been cast as Carla Connor's long-lost brother Rob.

Rob will be a new bad boy for the cobbles, arriving in Weatherfield following a stint in prison.

Carla (Alison King) will find that Rob needs her help to make a fresh start as he settles in.

The newcomer will also quickly develop a reputation as a ladies' man, setting his sights on Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) along with other women on the street.

Baylis told itv.com: "I feel incredibly honoured to be joining the very talented cast of Coronation Street. Rob is an exciting character to play and I am hoping he is going to ruffle a few Weatherfield feathers."

Coronation Street's producer Phil Collinson added: "I'm very pleased to welcome Marc to the cast - the latest in a long line of handsome Corrie charmers. Carla's brother Rob is sure to set hearts fluttering in Weatherfield from the minute he arrives. The audience can expect thrills and a few broken hearts when this handsome bad boy hits town."

Baylis's previous TV credits include guest roles on Law and Order: UK, The Bill, Misfits and Sirens.

His first Coronation Street scenes will air in the summer.
