JANET Devlin was last night booted off X Factor — after judge Kelly Rowland lost her nerve and turned to jelly.

Kelly, mentor to both of the bottom two — Janet and Misha B — had watched as fellow judges Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos opted to kick out 17-year-old Janet.

But when it came her turn to choose, Kelly broke down in tears and bottled out.

After watching the sing-off, a clearly emotional Kelly said: "I know how great these two girls are. I've watched them grow and I've seen how hard they work.

"To be honest I really can't make a decision. I love these girls." Host Dermot O'Leary told her Janet would definitely go out if she abstained as the two other judges had already voted to send her home.

But Kelly blubbed: "I can't. I have to pass. I'm sorry."

The live studio audience — which included US actor Adam Sandler and singer Robbie Williams — erupted with anger and booed the US judge. One audience member shouted "cop out".

But the final judge, Gary Barlow, revealed he would have voted Janet off too.

Janet said afterwards: "I've got this far so to go out at this stage is all right. I'd like to thank people who voted for me."

Asked how she felt, Janet, from Omagh, Northern Ireland, told host Dermot: "I don't know, obviously very confused. But I just can't wait to get out of the show into the studio and start getting my music out there. And the tour, obviously. It's exciting."

Janet had gone first in the head-to-head with her version of the Snow Patrol song Chasing Cars. Misha, 19, gave a smooth performance of Irene Cara's Out Here On My Own.

But Janet's disappointing performance on the show on Saturday may have sealed her fate — after she forgot her lines.

She was in the middle of Hanson's MmmBop when she suddenly stopped singing.

Janet later revealed she had been ill and felt she was going to throw up live on stage.

She said: "I was sick and I was about to throw up and that's what threw me off the line.

"But I can't make excuses — I missed the line and I was lost for a few seconds.

"The child in me just literally wanted to run - it was horrible."

Speaking live on Radio 1 yesterday, Janet also admitted she had been "struggling" in the competition — and tried to explain what led to her nightmare on stage.

She said: "It was a mixture of exhaustion and not taking a certain medication that I am on.

"So it was my own fault for not taking care of myself and getting me into this state.

"I got my boyfriend and mum to come into the green room with me afterwards — I couldn't face all the people backstage.

"I wanted to go out there and for everyone who's voted for me I wanted to give them a nice, happy upbeat song and I didn't. I hope they forgive me anyway."

But it was joy for the other acts as they realised they were through to next week's semi final.

Realising she was through, Amelia Lily, 17, gasped: "Oh my God".

Marcus Collins, 23, jumped for joy, while girl band Little Mix screamed and were hugged by mentor Tulisa.

Bookies William Hill last night made Marcus the favourite to go through to the final, followed by Little Mix, Amelia Lily and Misha B. Marcus was 11/8 favourite to go on and win the contest.

This year the show is really really pushing Misha down our (audience) throats and she comes across very unlikeable

I heard their song "wishing on a star" on the radio today. Honestly, what is the point of having JLS and One Direction on it when all they say is "this is JLS and One D" ha ha not funny!
I still want Little Mix to win, even though I don't think their performance on Saturday did them justice.

ITV has confirmed that the winner of the current series of The X Factor will be crowned in a four-hour finale, split over Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11.

Following in the footsteps of past winners including Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Joe McElderry and last year's Matt Cardle, the winning act will be unveiled after performing what will go on to be their first official single release.

Kicking off at 8pm on Saturday, December 10, the remaining three acts will perform in front of 10,000 people at Wembley Arena - the first time X Factor has been staged outside of its home at Fountain Studios.

ITV has teased that viewers can expect "big surprises" as "some amazing international guest stars" will perform on stage.

On Sunday night, the final two-hour show will begin at 7.30pm. As well as featuring more guest performers, the two remaining finalists will sing what will become their winner's single, before the public's champion is announced.

Release details for the track have yet to be confirmed. Despite previous tradition of the song being released on the same night - entering the Christmas number one chart race - this year's festive chart-topper will not be announced until two weeks later on December 25.

2006 winner Lewis has told Digital Spy that she will be among the guests taking to the stage over the weekend.

The X Factor semi-final takes place this weekend as Amelia Lily, Little Mix, Marcus Collins and Misha Bryan compete for a place in the final.

X Factor Frankie Cocozza’s off Christmas single

COKE-snorting contestant Frankie Cocozza has been axed from the X Factor finalists' charity single.

The wildman, booted off after taking the class A drug, recorded his vocal to Wishing On A Star before he left.

Fans who buy the song will hear him, but he has been edited out of the radio version and will be cut from the video.

Frankie, 18, has also been told he cannot join the finalists on this weekend's X Factor to showcase the song, which also features JLS and One Direction.

The floppy-haired singer is also likely to be banned from the X Factor final, when all finalists traditionally appear.

A show source said: "Frankie has admitted taking cocaine so that is not the kind of thing we want associated with a charity single. He recorded his bit before he was booted off so there is nothing we can do about his vocals being on the single. But he won't be heard on radio or be seen in any video."

Kelly Rowland has suggested that she may not return to The X Factor next year since she is focussed on going on tour.

The 'Down For Whatever' singer, whose third studio album Here I Am was released today, said that her solo career takes priority over her TV work.

She is quoted by The Mirror as saying: "X Factor next year? We'll see. I definitely would love to go on tour though, so that will be my focus for next year."

It was recently reported that the former Destiny's Child member may swap her position with X Factor USA panellist Nicole Scherzinger in 2012.

Rowland, 30, clashed with fellow judge Tulisa Contostavlos on the ITV talent show earlier in the series.

AXED Janet Devlin shrugged off her departure saying rival Misha B deserved to stay because she is "more X Factor material".

The singer said her exit was "not some huge bloody deal". She added: "It's not the end of life. Music never stops."

The teenager, from Omagh, Northern Ireland, said her creativity had been stifled on TV and claimed she had held back her real talent because she was saving it for fans who came to her gigs.

She said: "I wish we would get more of an opportunity to be musicians and express our artistry."

Janet, who was accused of being too predictable by Gary Barlow, claimed the music she preferred was too alternative for the show. "What I bring is the music that I like, which is quite underground," she said.

Student Janet forgot the words to the Hanson's Nineties' hit MMMBop on Saturday, claiming she felt sick. Her second song — Red Hot Chili Peppers' Under The Bridge — was not enough to save her from the axe on Sunday.

More than 14million viewers watched Sunday's results show.

Little Mix are now the bookies' favourite to win the competition, ahead of Marcus, Amelia Lily and Misha B, with odds of 6/5.

Im not a big fan of the song, but i love Janet's parts. I just love how unique her voice sounds on this to be honest. But the song's for charity so i hope it raises a lot of money
