Betty Ford, the former US first lady and founder of the revered rehabilitation centre bearing her name, has died at the age of 93.

The widow of 38th President Gerald Ford passed away peacefully on Friday at Rancho Mirage, California, with loved ones by her side.

"She was a powerful advocate for women's health and women's rights," President Barack Obama stated yesterday. "After leaving the White House, Mrs Ford helped reduce the social stigma surrounding addiction and inspired thousands to seek much-needed treatment."

During her lifetime, Ford was praised for raising awareness of breast cancer following her mastectomy in 1974 and was a passionate supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment.

She remained popular with the American public during her time in the White House between 1974 and 1977, despite her liberal views on controversial issues such as feminism, abortion and gun control.

Upon leaving office, Ford was inspired to establish the Betty Ford Clinic for substance abuse and addiction following her own battle with alcoholism and a chemical dependency. The centre was founded in 1982 and Ford remained chairwoman of its board of directors until 2005.

"No one confronted life's struggles with more fortitude or honesty, and as a result, we all learned from the challenges she faced," said former President George H.W. Bush. "The Betty Ford Centre, which already has helped change the lives of thousands of people, will be her lasting legacy of care and concern."

Also paying tribute to Ford was former first lady Nancy Reagan, who said in a statement: "She has been an inspiration to so many through her efforts to educate women about breast cancer and her wonderful work at the Betty Ford Centre.

"She was Jerry Ford's strength through some very difficult days in our country's history, and I admired her courage in facing and sharing her personal struggles with all of us."

Former California first lady Maria Shriver told People: "America fought her struggles with her and learned alongside her. She was brave, outspoken and kind."

    RIP Betty

Wonder if they will name it like Brooklyn by naming it after the place where it was conceived. Somehow I don't think Backseatofthecar Beckham has the same ring to it

A representative for the Hollywood actress confirmed to People that Hudson gave birth to a "healthy baby boy" yesterday in Los Angeles.

Hudson is already mother to 7-year-old Ryder, from her first marriage to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, but the new arrival is Bellamy's first child.

The couple confirmed in April that they were now engaged, following several weeks of speculation.

Hudson and Bellamy have yet to announce a name for their newborn son.

GUITAR legend Wurzel of the band Motorhead has died, it was announced last night.
Wurzel, real name Michael Burston, suffered a heart attack "while pouring a Guinness and cracking a smile".

The 61-year-old, originally from Cheltenham, Gloucs, joined Motorhead in 1984 after playing in other bands.

He had previously served in the Army, where he got his nickname because of his West Country accent and likeness to Worzel Gummidge the scarecrow.

He played on nine studio and live albums until his departure in 1995.

And he was a favourite with fans for his jester-like antics in contrast to the sterner image of the band's lead singer Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister.

Lemmy said last night: "Wurzel was my friend and my brother and he's never going to laugh with me again or bitch me out or do anything.

"And that truly and cosmically sucks. RIP Wurz. God speed. Good man."

The food guru - whose deal with the firm is thought to be worth more than £1 million each year - has been the face of the company for numerous campaigns and starred in more than 100 TV ads.

Jamie and the company - who will part company later this year - are said to have felt it was "the right time to move on".

The split is said to be "amicable" and the star is also seeking to spend more time working on various projects through his Jamie Oliver Foundation.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reportedly getting married.

Three separate sources have confirmed that the couple will exchange vows within the next few months, according to Us Weekly.

However, the magazine writes that the nuptials will not be an extravagant affair.

"[The wedding] would be intimate and informal," said an insider.

One potential location for the ceremony is the couple's newly-renovated Chateau Miraval in Correns, France, which features a 16th-century chapel.

In May, Pitt revealed that he is considering marrying Jolie as the pair's six children have said that they would like them to wed.

The two actors have said in the past that they would not wed until everyone, whether gay or straight, could marry.

Pitt recently praised the decision to pass New York's Marriage Equality Act, saying that he hopes the rest of the US chooses to follow suit in the future.

Neither Pitt nor Jolie's reps have responded to comment on the marriage claims.

Kelly Osbourne spots mum Sharon's stolen wedding ring on 'Crimewatch'

Sharon Osbourne has been reunited with her stolen wedding ring.

The America's Got Talent judge got the £200,000 ($323,000) ring back when daughter Kelly spotted it on an episode of Crimewatch, The Mirror reports.

Kelly wrote on Twitter: "Thank you crime watch my mum is over the moon thats here wedding ring she cried with joy because she can get it back! Thank you! (sic)"

The ring was among £1 million ($1.62 million) of stolen designer jewellery and watches recovered in Doncaster during August 2010 by South Yorkshire police.

Sharon's Tiffany ring, which features a ten-carat diamond, was stolen from the family home in 2004 by masked burglars. Her husband Ozzy had bought the ring in 2002 when the couple renewed their vows.

Kelly had described her area of London as "like f**king Crimewatch" on Twitter earlier in the week.

She recalled how she had prevented both a car robbery and a 'car tipping' on Monday night.
