Jai and Edward were absolutley brilliant tonight, loved both their performances, I actually could not stop laughing during Edward's performance and cannot understand how they put Steven Hall through

Although I must say that I think Simon got it spot on bringing that Micheal Moral back, should have been there in the first place

There are a few acts who should never have made it through to the semi-finale. Acts like Mexican mayhem and the eye-popping guy. Great to see Diversity back last night they are still fantastic two years on.

There were plenty of acts that should not have gone through anywhere at all

Yeah the judges thought Ronan had it in the bag, but Jai grabbed it. I was hoping Ant & Dec would quiz Nicole about X-factor, but they were probably warned not too.

Jai McDowall has been crowned winner of Britain's Got Talent 2011.

The support worker turned singer emerged victorious from the ITV contest after beating competition favourite Ronan Parke, young dance troupe New Bounce and seven other acts in tonight's public vote.

Speaking to hosts Ant & Dec after the result, McDowall described the competition as "absolutely amazing" and "much more, so much more" than he could have ever dreamed of.

Gracious in defeat, 12-year-old Parke claimed to have "loved" his time on Britain's Got Talent and added: "Thank you to everyone who voted, thank you so much... congratulations to Jai as well."

Commenting on the surprise poll, judge Simon Cowell asserted that the 24-year-old was a "worthy winner" for managing to outperform some of the bigger names in tonight's final.

He said: "We said tonight there was going to be a shock result, not doing [McDowall] any disservice, [but] he wasn't any of the favourites coming in tonight.

"But... he nailed the song, the public, we can always trust their decision and I think he's a worthy winner."

Fellow panellist Amanda Holden also congratulated McDowall, but confessed that she would have been more satisfied by Parke's victory after the fix claims that have plagued his appearance on the show.

"I'm thrilled for Jai, this is a massive, massive night for him, but I did really want Ronan to win," she said.

McDowall later revealed on Britain's Got More Talent that despite the win, he felt "calm inside". When asked if he now planned to give up his job as a support worker, he said: "I love my day job, but what I did on stage and what I did on Britain's Got Talent, that's what I love and I want to do."

McDowall will now receive £100,000 and the opportunity to perform on next year's Royal Variety Performance.

Jai had to win imagine if Ronan had won all the media talk of fixes even though Ronan has a record deal with Simon

Yes I think that The S*n would have had a field day if he had won (the bottom bit should explain as to why I censored the word S*n if not then please feel free to ask)

    Pleased Jai won it

I really really like Ronan... but I like Jai too so was pleased both were in the top two and didn't mind who won.. Was it just me or was it a bit of an anti climax when it was announced he won??? it seemed nobody was really behind him
