Michael returns from Brighton with Alfie and phones Jack, who ignores the call. At the flat, a guilty Ronnie tells Jack that she shouldn't have said anything about Michael and orders her husband not to do anything stupid. Later, Michael tries to continue his romance with Roxy by buying flowers for her, but she ignores him when he tries to give them to her. Soon afterwards, Jack spots Michael in the market and punches him, angrily warning him to stay away from Ronnie. Meanwhile, Roxy also orders him to stay away from her sister. Desperate for answers, Michael pays a visit to Ronnie. She tries to ignore him, but Michael vows that he won't leave until Ronnie talks to him. Finally, Ronnie confesses that she may have said something about him that has been taken the wrong way. Michael then grabs Ronnie - and at that moment, Jack appears in the doorway.
Seeing Ronnie and Michael up close only makes Jack angrier, so he yanks Michael away from his wife and repeats his warning to stay away. Once Michael has gone, Ronnie advises Jack to buy Michael out at the boxing gym so he has no reason to stay in Walford. Later, Jack visits the gym to make this suggestion, and Michael takes the opportunity to protest his innocence once again. Michael explains that he thinks Ronnie fancies him because a passport photo is missing from his wallet. Pressing the point, Michael promises that he will sign everything over if Jack agrees to ask Ronnie about the photo. Back at the flat, Jack starts to search for the photo and he's stunned when he finds it…
Meanwhile, Janine and Whitney decide to start job-hunting. Whitney lands a trial shift at The Vic that evening after Ryan asks Kat to give her a chance. Kat then announces that it's singles' night at the pub, and Whitney heads off to spread the word - but Janine isn't happy. As Whitney's trial shift gets under way, Kat catches Whitney sneaking Janine money. However, she agrees to give Whitney the job as long as Whitney promises that she can be trusted.

Heather is still worrying about her financial problems and as she completes her cleaning job at Phil and Shirley's, she considers stealing a bottle of milk - but Jay snatches it off her before she can do so. She then heads over to the launderette but is disappointed when she realises that she's not scheduled to work on the rota. Later, at the café, Heather asks Shirley for her wages but is gutted when Shirley explains that she's left her purse at home. When Heather storms off and Shirley asks what's wrong, Heather loses her temper - asking Shirley where she was last night and accusing her of choosing Phil over her. Fighting back tears, Heather declares that their friendship is over.
Later, things look up for Heather when Patrick gives her £20 for being the Minute Mart's employee of the month. Heather decides to buy some chocolates for Dot and Jim because she's been desperate to buy them an anniversary present. She also shops for some clothes for George at the market, but is left embarrassed when Jodie suggests that she should do her shopping at the high street. When she returns to the shop, Heather learns that Patrick only made up the 'employee of the month' prize to give her money, so she puts £20 back in the till.
As the day continues, Heather is shocked when Morgan breaks a wheel on her buggy. Heather goes through his pockets to look for money to pay for the damage and finds 50p. However, her actions are witnessed by a furious Carol, who threatens to call the police. Back at the flat, Heather puts George to sleep before leaving to visit her mother. There's more disappointment in store, however, as she hears from a neighbour that her mum has moved. As she hands the neighbour a picture of George to pass on, she suddenly remembers that she has left George alone and rushes home.
Billy witnesses Heather arriving back on the Square and follows her, concerned by how frantic she appears to be. Heather confesses to Billy that she left George on his own and she soon realises that she can no longer provide for her own son. As a result, she pays a visit to Darren and leaves him and Jodie to look after the baby. Returning to the flat, Heather finds a note from Shirley containing her wages. She starts getting ready to see Shirley, but Shirley later arrives at Heather's and bangs angrily on the door as Heather failed to show up at the club. Shirley is unaware that Heather is lying unconscious inside due to a faulty boiler.

Darren is trying to get in touch with Heather, so he asks Dot and Shirley where she is. All three still remain oblivious to the fact that she is lying unconscious in her flat. Because he can't reach Heather, Darren has to bring George to work with him, but ends up recruiting Tamwar as a babysitter after Jack expresses his displeasure. George's time with Tamwar at the Argee Bhajee ends with the baby being covered in curry, so when Darren arrives back, he has to visit Heather's to get some clean clothes. He knocks on Heather's door but there's still no response. Darren then decides to use a credit card to get inside and he's shocked when he finds Heather slumped in her chair.
Shirley is also wondering about Heather because the house is in a state. Shirley vows to sack Heather, but she soon realises that Heather is her friend and makes a phone call to her, leaving a message. Later, paramedics arrive on the Square and a crowd gathers as everyone wonders what's going on. Shirley rushes over and is worried about Heather, but she also feels guilty as she feels that she has treated her friend badly. Shirley tries to run after the ambulance as it drives away, but she's left alone - wondering whether Heather will survive…
Meanwhile, Christian and Syed want Roxy to take a pregnancy test, but she doesn't show up to meet them as planned. The pair visit her flat but an argument follows when they find Roxy and Michael wrapped only in towels. Christian eventually storms out, while Syed confronts Roxy, saying that she's being unfair and accusing her of not wanting the baby plan to work out. However, things calm down when Syed admits to Roxy that he's jealous of the close relationship she has with Christian. Roxy then confides in Syed about her feelings for Michael, saying that she'd love to have a relationship as strong as Christian and Syed's. Later, Syed tells Christian that he didn't want a child at first but has since come round to the idea, while at The Vic, Roxy is heartbroken when another woman warns her off Michael - declaring that he's taken. Roxy then pays a visit to Christian and Syed, looking for some comfort. Soon afterwards, Roxy drops a bombshell by announcing that her period is late…

Janine encourages Whitney to steal alcohol from The Vic, so she chooses the right moment to put three bottles of vodka into a bag. However, a livid Kat later finds the bag and sacks Whitney, offering her £40 in unpaid wages - which Whitney chooses not to take. Whitney soon turns to Dot for support, but Dot advises her to go back home to her family. Feeling desperate for cash, Whitney tries to sell some of her belongings - including her phone - on the street, but has no luck. When Whitney returns to the flat and reports that she's been sacked, Janine is furious. Janine's temper gets worse when she hears that Whitney turned down her wages and she slaps her lodger.
Meanwhile, the coroner pays a visit to Kat. Kat later shows Alfie a letter from the coroner which states that Tommy died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Alfie tells Kat that the confirmation means she can now stop blaming herself. As the pair each discuss their own sadness, Kat says that it might have helped her if she'd known how much Alfie was hurting sooner. The couple then bond as they remember Tommy.
Elsewhere, Ronnie heads to her first counselling session. While waiting for her appointment, she spots a magazine article about babies which upsets her, and she ends up leaving without having the session.
