Louis Walsh has confirmed that four acts will compete in The X Factor final.

In previous years, three remaining hopefuls have gone head-to-head in a bid to be crowned the series winner.

However, speaking on RTÉ Radio One, the judge revealed that this week will only see one of the remaining five acts exit the competition following last weeks double elimination.

Matt Cardle, Cher Lloyd, Rebecca Ferguson, Mary Byrne and One Direction will all compete in this weekends semi-final.

The seventh X Factor final will take place over two two-hour shows on December 11 and 12.

The X Factor semi-final will have a Club Classics theme, it has been confirmed.

All five remaining acts - Mary Byrne, Cher Lloyd, One Direction, Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson - will perform two songs this weekend and one of the tracks will have to be a popular dancefloor hit.

For their second track, the acts will pick their own song - one which they believe can get them into the final.

Speaking on Matt Edmondson's F Factor blog about the themes, vocal coach Yvie Burnett said: "This is the most important song choice so far. We have got absolutely every type of act you want in this semi-final.

"Everyone is getting really stroppy, really grumpy, really tense and nobody can decide on their songs. This week is crucial."

The X Factor semi-final airs on Saturday at 7.40pm on ITV1.

Simon Cowell is splashing out £1million to ensure he gets the Christmas No1 – by recording five different winners’ songs for X Factor contestants.

Last year’s winner Joe *McElderry’s single was beaten by Rage Against The Machine.

Finalists like Joe have *previously recorded versions of the same song. Cowell has scrapped this as some suited the song choice better than others.

A production source said: “No expense is being spared.”

Finalists Cher, Matt, One *Direction, Rebecca and Mary will shoot their videos this week.

X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson would reportedly rather have Louis Walsh as her mentor, as she feels let down by Cheryl Cole.
The Liverpool mum of two is said to be convinced that the ‘Promise This’ singer is favouring Cher Lloyd over her and has expressed worries over her recent song choices on the show.
The Sun reports that Ferguson sought out Louis Walsh last week in his dressing room, and begged him to take over as her mentor.

A close friend said: “Rebecca had to watch while Cher and – before she got chucked out – Katie Waissel got all the attention.
“Cheryl tells her she is great and has a great voice, but Rebecca has felt like the others are the focus.”
Rebecca was pictured in floods of tears as she left the X Factor studios after the rock themed show and insiders say that it was Louis who repeatedly comforted her backstage.
“Rebecca turned to Louis as he has always been such a big fan of hers,” the source added. “He gave her some advice and helped her get her confidence back.”
However, it is unlikely that Louis will take Rebecca into his camp at this late stage of the competition. The insider added:
“Louis would love to mentor her but it’s not in the rules.”

X Factor's Rebecca Ferguson has teased her song choices for this week's semi-final.

The mother-of-two claimed that one of the tracks would get everyone dancing and that the other is a classic "laidback" hit.

"This weekend, I'm going to put my heart and soul into it and I'm hoping you will all back me," she said in her latest video blog.

"I hope you liked 'Satisfaction' [last weekend] because I was trying to mix it up a bit. I am going to try and go on doing things like that, but at the same time, I don't want to lose who I am. I am an understated singer."

She continued: "This week's theme, I'm really excited about. Especially if I get to do the song that I want to do. Because it is fun and I mean... you will be getting out of your seats and dancing along with me because it is fun.

"The other song is lovely. A nice laidback lovely song that everybody knows. I don't know anyone who doesn't know it."

The X Factor airs on Saturday at 7.40pm on ITV1.
