X Factor finalists are being paid nothing for big money advertising campaigns which would earn other stars tens of thousands of pounds.

The contestants are missing out on huge paydays while being used by some of the nation's biggest companies sponsoring or advertising on the ITV show. Finalists had to sign away their image rights, so while they appear in videos and online ads for Sainsbury's, L'Oreal and Very.co.uk, show bosses and ITV get the money.

Tesco checkout girl Mary Byrne is promoting tarts from Sainsbury's, while One Direction are plugging hair gel. Matt Neale, co-MD, of agency GolinHarris, said: "Matt, Cher and Wagner could make tens of thousands a day and Mary could make her Tesco salary in a day for the brand she's promoting."

A source close to the finalists added: "Some of the contestants think it's a bit of a p*** take that their names are flogging all these products. But they signed the contracts, so they can't really complain."

Cher, Louis from One Direction and Rebecca Ferguson - complete with L'Oreal slogans - are all on Superdrug's website.

Sainsbury's video ads see each contestant cooking in the X Factor kitchen - using the store's own-brand items.

Very.co.uk uses finalists' images on its website and sells clothes worn by singers.

The Very deal is believed to be worth £1million to the show, while the L'Oreal contract is said to be worth £200,000.

But an X Factor source insisted no one is out of pocket and all their household bills, mortgages and rents are paid for by producers while still in the show.

Adding to the tensions in the X Factor camp, Louis Walsh was forced to apologise to One Direction after they were threatened by Brazilian weirdo Wagner.

Louis's peace mission was revealed at a Very.co. uk catwalk show in London this week. Wagner, 54, was reportedly hauled away from One Direction's Harry Styles, 16, last week while shooting the video for the finalists' charity single, a cover of David Bowie's Heroes.

Lead singer Liam Payne, 17, said: "We thought we were just having a laugh with him, but he misconstrued our jokes. Louis has apologised to us."

And as scantily-clad models paraded backstage, bandmate Niall Horan, 17, joked: "He has had a good night tonight looking at all these women, so he is happy now."

I'M A Celebrity oddball Gillian McKeith has been flirting with wildman Shaun Ryder in the jungle.
Gillian, 51, asked the Happy Mondays singer if he thought she would make a good wife.
But Shaun, 48, brushed off her advances and told producers he would KILL her and hide her corpse if he was her husband.
Barmy Gillian's erratic behaviour on the ITV1 show has seen her collapse three times and claim to be pregnant and have rabies.

But the TV nutritionist's spirits have lifted since she was spared from being chucked out in Thursday's first public vote.
During her coy chat with Shaun, she asked him: "Would I be a good wife?"
The stunned singer replied: "I don't think so."
But Gillian simpered he was "a pussy cat," before telling Shaun: "All this bravado is just for show. I think you're actually very kind-hearted, warm, generous." He replied: "I'm very kind-hearted. When have I not been kind-hearted? I put up with you."
Ex-MP Lembit Opik joined in, saying: "I know why you're drawn to Shaun. You like a bit of rough."
Gillian replied: "Oh yeah you're right. I like that tattooed look."
Horrified Shaun dashed to the bush telegraph and said: "If Gillian was my wife she would be in pieces in a plastic bag deep in a hole in the back garden."
Afterwards deluded Gillian droned on: "I think he actually really likes me."
An insider said: "The whole dynamic between Gillian and Shaun was hilarious. He was having none of it."

Lembit Opik has become the second contestant to exit this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.

The former MP faced all the other campmates in tonight's public vote, but lost out to Linford Christie in the bottom two.

Talking to Ant & Dec about his time in the jungle, Opik reflected: "[It was] really strange. It's quite odd because we're a real close team, there's a real sense of team sprit there.

"It exceeded my expectations. First of all, I think I can survive the unknown. Secondly, just in terms of outlook, you learn a lot about yourself. And thirdly, I've never been bitten by a snake before!"

Asked for his views on Gillian McKeith's camp histrionics, he said: "Gillian has had an incredible journey. She was basically phobic about insects and confined spaces, in other words everything this show is about.

"I kept telling her, 'Insects are your friend', and she really tried to conquer it. She shows if you do focus on your fears, you can overcome them."

Opik refused to name who he would like to win the reality show, saying: "We're all friends. I'm a Democrat!"

X Factor's Gamu Nhengu visa ruling reversed

Former X Factor singer Gamu Nhengu and her family have won the latest round of their legal fight to remain in the UK.

The Home Office had turned down a visa renewal application by the teenage singer's mother, but reversed that decision at a hearing in Glasgow.

The 18-year-old and her family are originally from Zimbabwe but have lived in Clackmannanshire for several years.

Officials refused their visa renewal over procedural problems, but said they would now make a fresh decision.

Speaking after the hearing, the family's lawyer, Frances Farrell, said: "The family are pleased that the Home Office have withdrawn their decisions and decided to reconsider my clients' cases.

"The family are hopeful that they will now be granted leave to remain in the UK.

"They want to thank everyone for all the wonderful support they have had."

The solicitor said she hoped a fresh decision would be made within weeks, rather than months.

An application by the singer's mother, Nokuthula Ngazana, to stay in the UK after her visa expired was turned down on the grounds there was an administrative error in the application.

The UK Border Agency said it did not "meet all of the conditions for approval".

Family solicitors said the error was due to Mrs Ngazana giving the wrong bank details, so the fee for the application could not be taken.

The application was judged "out of time" as a result, but the lawyers said it was lodged in time.

The family was told in October to leave the UK voluntarily or face being sent back to Zimbabwe.

Despite initially being told they had no right of appeal, the family was given a lifeline after being granted a full appeal hearing before a judge.

The appeal case was expected to be heard before immigration judge Mungo Deans.

But a Home Office representative told the hearing that he had instructions to withdraw the original decision made on 6 October, over a "technical issue".

    Facebook appeal

Myles Matthews said the case "will now be reconsidered and a fresh decision will be made in due course".

Simon Cowell said in October that his lawyers were helping in the family's battle to stay in their Tillicoultry home.

Cowell, 51, maintains bosses at the ITV1 show were not aware of Gamu's visa situation while she was on the programme.

The singer was rejected by judge Cheryl Cole in October despite being trailed as an early favourite to win.

More than 250,000 fans signed up to a Facebook page called Gamu Should Have Got Through, in protest at the decision to leave her out of the final 12.

Once again Matt stole the show, with Rebecca and Mary both given strong performances. Wagner was not bad in his first song, He'll be safe for another week. Katie and Cher are in trouble. Both of Katie's performances were frantic and desperate she murdered "Everybody hurts" She has to go tomorrow. along with Cher.
