I don't think I have laughed so hard for ages!! Thing is, why did we have to do it in our slippers, why on earth did we not put our shoes on!! I always thought there were ghosts waiting in the bunker and hated having to go out to get the last bucket of coal. No wonder I am like I am today, traumatised childhood, the children today don't know how lucky there are. And if any one is wondering, yes I will be apprearing on Grumpy Old Woman!!

I was the same as both of you.. but we also had a coal shed which was at the top of our garden and I hated going out at night to get coal for the fire... I can still hear the sound of the shovel against stone when filling the fire bucket!
I was terrified that anyone or anything could be hiding in the coal shed.. especially rats, spiders or kids like you and Kath steal our coal![]()
Super Mod
We wore our slippers so the neighbours wouldn't hear us. We were pinching the coal by night and their rhubarb by day.
Thanks to Vicky for my great new banner xxx

So it was you!!! My parents were brought up in a farming community so when they came to the big smoke they grew all sorts of veg in our garden.. our front garden we grew potatoes and our back garden had carrots, lettuce, rhubarb... it didn't help that my maiden name was Browne (I am sure many of the older people will remember the crips with the name of farmer browne)

Women are more likely to do this at night, men more likely to do it in the morning - WHAT?![]()
