Despite claiming that he knew he was in danger because of a Twitter leak, Aiden Grimshaw has played down claims that voting results on ‘The X Factor’ are known before the phone votes are closed.

Speaking on ‘Daybreak’, Aiden said that the Twitter leak he mentioned on Sunday night’s result show was just “word on the street”.

On Sunday, when Aiden got the news that he had been voted off, he told Dermot O’Leary: “My friend told me there was a Twitter leak and I was in the bottom three.”

But this morning he dismissed it, saying: “It was one of my friends who likes to throw in a corker every now and again, it's probably just word on the street, it had no relevance."

Aiden went on to say that he’d been comforted by fellow competitor Matt Cardle and hoped that he would continue in the music business.

“Last night I had a bit of a sob with Matt, but I'll get over it,” he said. “It is what it is, you win some, you lose some.

“I hope that I can get some gigs together and hopefully make some music.”

Asked about his rival Katie Waissel, who survived the sing-off, he responded: “You just try and sing the best you can. People thought she was better, she got more votes. It's not nice to watch someone get booed."

He also had words of support for his mentor Dannii Minogue. "Dannii has been amazing, the whole way through. She's always there, always on the phone. If I was hungry she'd take me to one of the dressing rooms and feed me chocolate."

X Factor favourite Matt Cardle has reportedly accused Simon Cowell of treating talented finalists as "expendable" in an attempt to keep viewing figures high.

According to the Daily Mail the singer claimed Cowell saved controversial Katie Waissel over early favourite Aiden Grimshaw because she is "better for the show", not because she is a better performer.

Cardle, 27, said: "In terms of the television show, Aiden was expendable. I was shocked when Simon sent him home, but then Katie is better for the show than Aiden is.

"She gets the coverage - she gets the show attention. He just isn't like that but he is a much better singer.

"It is like losing a brother. When it went to Katie and Aiden in the bottom two, I didn't think he would go. Even when it went to deadlock, I thought he would stay."

Grimshaw, from Blackpool, left the competition on Sunday night after ending up alongside Katie in the bottom two.

When the judges were given the chance to save their preferred contestant, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh nominated Aiden, while Cheryl Cole and Cowell opted for Katie.

The tie meant the decision went to 'deadlock', where the public vote decides the contestants' fate. Aiden had polled the lowest number and left the competition.

Grimshaw, 18, said: "It is an entertainment show - but I can't see where the entertainment is coming from [with Katie] as she is not doing that well.

"I think it should be more about singing from now on."

Matt: "In terms of the television show Aiden was expendable. I don't know how things will work out if anyone else is in the bottom two with Katie.

"It depends who is in the bottom two with her. I think there would be ********** uproar if say someone like Rebecca was pushed out of the competition in favour of Katie.

"I don't feel safe in the competition after this. Anything can happen. Everyone in the house is gutted. No one expected this."

The singer then put ageing crooner Wagner in his sights. He said: "The joke is over now and people should be voting for the singers.

"People would mind leaving the competition less if Wagner wasn't still in it. He's an alright guy but he can't sing. I would be gutted if I went home before Wagner, I'm sure Aiden is."

To top it off, Matt had a pop at his ex-girlfriend Lauren Cutmore for doing a nasty kiss 'n' tell this weekend, which follows rumours of him beiong more than friends with the show's stylist Grace Woodward.

"I've tried to put her off doing this for weeks," he said. "She said she just caved in. It was ridiculous, I had to try and laugh about it really. I hope she's happy. I hope she's happy with her cash. I hope she p*sses it up the wall."

Simon Cowell knows the voting percentages each week on The X Factor and acts accordingly, it has been claimed.

The identity of the bottom two - and in the case of Deadlock the least popular act - is the only information made public during the programme. Full voting breakdowns are only published after the final show.

However, an alleged insider has told Heat magazine that Cowell is fully aware of the details of each weekly vote and alters his own actions as a judge, mentor and showrunner accordingly.

The source said: "Simon knows which contestants get the most votes each week, and some of them bring in a serious amount of financial revenue through phone votes.

"Viewers are encouraged to vote for certain acts, even when they sometimes perform below par. Contestants like Cher [Lloyd], for instance, make the show a lot of money, as she has an army of young fans who can be relied on to get their parents to vote for her every single week."

Regarding voting figures, they continued: "[Cowell] couldn't stand not to know. Sometimes he shares them with Louis [Walsh] and Cheryl [Cole], but hardly ever with Dannii [Minogue]... Because Simon's privy to the percentages of votes, he knows who is the most popular.

"Things can be unpredictable, so no-one can 100% tell who will make the finals, but he has a very clear idea every year about who is likely to make the finals, because of voting panels. That's what often makes Simon say things like, 'You're the dark horse', or 'You're the one to watch'."

A representative from SyCo was unavailable for comment on the claims.
