Cheryl Cole has explained her 'abstained' vote decision on last night's X Factor, claiming that it was impossible for her to choose between "my girls".

Katie Waissel and Treyc Cohen were both in the bottom two last night, but Cole refused to pick one of her acts to send home when it came to the judges' vote. Her refusal meant that the other judges decided who left and Cohen was axed with two votes compared to Waissel's one.

Cole was not allowed to send the vote to deadlock, despite expressing a desire to do so earlier on.

When probed about her non-vote on The Xtra Factor, Cole said: "It's just awful, you get to know these people and Treyc is in bits backstage. It brings it all back to reality.

"They are my girls. I see them week in week out. I love them for different reasons. It doesn't feel right [to send one home]. You have massive responsibility as a judge and I feel proud that all my girls got to this stage."

Total farce no way Treyc should have been voted out. Cheryl bottled it she should have been made to vote or put it too deadlock and let the public vote. I bet it wouild have been Katie who was eliminated. If Katie is in the bottom two again next week she has to go. It's not fair that the judges keep saving her when she's not getting the public vote.

At least Danni was the only person who had the courage to do this right... Katie made a mess of that song and When John did it.. they all voted him out (well except Louis) and last night they kept Katie in even though she totally messed up everything.. she really has to go..

Dermot O'Leary has confirmed that this week's X Factor will have an Elton John theme.

At the end of last night's results show, O'Leary revealed that the remaining nine contestants will be "locking horns" as they tackle tracks made famous by John.

The theme week is a surprise addition to the show following remarks made by the veteran popstar in recent weeks, which included him criticising the X Factor format. The 'Candle In The Wind' singer described TV talent shows as "boring" and "brain crippling" and he questioned the long-term career prospects of the contestants.

Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh retaliated to John's remarks during a live show, claiming that this year's acts were proof that the show produced real talent.

JLS, Take That and Westlife will perform on Sunday's results show.

It's double standards. They go on about how Wagner should have been voted out weeks ago, but it's alright for Katie to remain in. At the end of the day it's the pulbic who are spending money voting each week and who wil buy the contestants cd's. Mr Cowell and Ms Cole will not be standing in the queue of HMV or spending their cash on Itunes so why should they be allowed to dictate who stays in the show. Cheryl bottled it as she knew Katie would have got the boot not Treyc. What will she do if next week Cher and Katie are in the bottom two will she still refuse to vote. It's part of the competition judges have to vote.

Mary Byrne is also rumoured to have record deal so that means her and One Direction have deals whether they win or lose

We'll see how much it is a fix in the coming weeks when they release what the winners song will be. By rights Matt is the real winner but if they pick a song that favours one contestant over another like they did last year with "The Climb" and Joe McEldry. There was no way that Olly was going to win last year with that song choice and we will see what cheating the judges come up with to favour their acts over Matt. They'll have to come up with something to beat him because they can't beat him on talent.

X Factor finalist Matt Cardle has hit out at his fellow competitor Wagner Carillho, saying that it will be a ‘f**king joke’ if he makes the final.

The former painter and decorator is currently one of the favourites to win the show this December, however online campaigns backing joke contestant Wagner, could threaten his bid for the X Factor crown.

Speaking to The Mirror Matt blasted:

“It would be a f**king joke if Wagner got through to the final and I was against him.

“I hope that the public would see sense if that did happen – or I just pray to God that they do.”
