I'm pretty sure this will be linked in with Sam's return, and even if she doesn't die, will be a component in Peggy's exit somehow. I'm thinking either Charlie or Minty could die trying to save Peggy from the flames, and Lucy could die also. Perhaps Glenda too, because I don't think she's staying full time?
EastEnders returnees Kat and Alfie Moon will regain Walford's local watering hole The Queen Victoria on their return to the Square.
The show favourites - played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie - are expected to make their screen comeback at around the time of the Queen Vic fire.
According to The Mirror, the deliberate blaze - which is also thought to tie in with Barbara Windsor's departure from the soap as Peggy Mitchell - leaves the pub as nothing more than a mere shell and Alfie's first order of business is to rebuild the place from the ground up.
Kat, meanwhile, allegedly reprises her role behind the bar as landlady.
A show source said: "Alfie has big plans for the pub. He managed it for The Duchess for a while when he first arrived in Walford - so he'll soon be back where he belongs with Kat by his side."
They added: "Even though the fire completely guts the place, the bronze bust is one of the only items to survive - it'll still be in pride of place when The Vic reopens."
Show bosses are remaining tight-lipped about their return but a spokesperson said: "We're looking forward to the return of Kat and Alfie later this year."
Kat and Alfie were last seen in Walford on Christmas Day 2005 when they drove off into the sunset together in their Ford Capri bound for America.
I always liked Alfie behind the bar
This is the dramatic moment that a fire starts at the Queen Vic in an EastEnders episode that will change Albert Square forever.
As revealed yesterday, crack addict Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) sets the iconic pub alight during a furious row with mum Peggy (Barbara Windsor) over his recent drug use.
Peggy has been making a desperate attempt to get Phil clean again by locking him upstairs in The Vic and ignoring his pleas to be let out. However, when Phil makes an escape and Peggy tries to stop him from stealing more money from the business, the pair have a huge showdown.
As their argument reaches its climax, Phil threatens to burn down the pub. Though Peggy thinks her son is only bluffing, he throws down a lit match and she's horrified as they're surrounded by flames.
The fire soon spreads and spirals out of control, prompting everyone inside to try to escape.
Will Peggy and Phil make it out alive? And what about the rest of Albert Square's residents?
These scenes air on Thursday, September 9 at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Explosive images from this week's landmark episode of EastEnders reveal the moment the iconic Queen Vic pub is engulfed in flames.
New stills show couple Max and Vanessa - played by Jake Wood and Zoe Lucker - screaming in horror as a huge fireball erupts.
Speculation is mounting that Peggy Mitchell, played by Barbara Windsor, will die in the blaze, as the actress has left the soap after 16 years.

She filmed her final scenes last month but how she will be written out is yet to be announced.
According to reports, her son Phil starts the blaze during a fight between the two, where she tried to convince the junkie to get off drugs.

New life: a New set has been built for the show's move to HD this autumn
‘The show has changed my life and I want you all to continue the good work, because I'll be at home watching you.’
Steve McFadden, who plays Phil, hinted at a sensational upcoming plot, promising fans that 'they will not be disappointed' by her exit storyline.
Miss Windsor first started on the soap in 1994, but quit to spend more time with her family.
Despite the devastating fire, it appears the pub will be given new life, as a new Queen Vic set has been installed for the show's HD relaunch this year.
Earlier this year, after Miss Windsor quit, it was announced that that a host of other characters in the soap are being axed.
There is speculation that some of some, if not all of them, could perish in the fire.
Six characters, including mechanic Rick 'Minty' Peterson, taxi driver Charlie Slater and student Libby Fox, will have 'exciting exits', the BBC has promised.

Unfortunately I don't think they will kill off the Poison Dwarf. After a few months in the real world she will come cwalling back to Albert Sqware and the bosses at the Beeb will throw pots of money at her just to comback to Mitchellenders
