Simon Cowell arranging Haiti fundraiser

Simon Cowell has confirmed that the charity single he organised in aid of Haiti will be released for download on February 7.

The song, a cover of REM's 'Everybody Hurts', will also be available on CD from February 8.

According to BBC News, Cowell said that the single had been "an absolute priority for us all".

Meanwhile, participant Cheryl Cole explained that she wanted to "help the people of Haiti rebuild their lives" and Rod Stewart earlier stated that he could not think of "a more fitting song than 'Everybody Hurts' to convey the unimaginable tragedy that is Haiti".

JLS singer Oritse Williams, who lost relatives in the earthquake, added: "The tragedy is very close to my heart. It's great to be working with such talented artists all pulling together to make a difference through song."

Reality stars Alexandra Burke, Susan Boyle and Leona Lewis all perform on the single, alongside Michael Bublé, Jon Bon Jovi and Mariah Carey.

Kylie Minogue, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Mika, Westlife and James Morrison have also joined the lineup.

The proceeds from the single will be split between The Sun's Helping Haiti fund and the Disasters Emergency Committee.

This track looks set to hit number one this weekend.

As The Sun reports, the song sold 150,000 copies by the end of last night, making it almost a dead cert for top position.

Gennaro Castaldo of HMV told the paper, ‘For it to sell over 100,000 copies in a day or two underlines once again the generosity of the UK and Irish public when called upon to help others.’

Half the money raised go to the The Sun’s Haiti fund, while the rest will go to the Disaters Emergency Committee

imon Cowell's 'Helping Haiti' charity single is currently outselling the entire UK top ten by two-to-one.

The song, a cover of R.E.M.'s 'Everybody Hurts', has now sold over 300,000 copies in just four days.

The Official Charts Company yesterday confirmed that the track has become the fastest-selling charity single of the century, following reports that it could top one million sales.

The song replaced previous holder 'Hero' by the X Factor finalists in 2008 - another Simon Cowell-backed charity track.

Profits from the single will be divided equally between the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and The Sun's Helping Haiti appeal.
