Simon Cowell will expand the X Factor live shows next year with 16 finalists, say reports.

The 50-year-old judge and SyCo boss also wants to host the 2010 final at Wembley Arena, according to the Daily Star.

"The minute you start assuming that the audience is very happy to see the same show again, you're dead," said Cowell.

Proposed changes include having 16 contestants reach the live show stages and switching the mentor system so that each judge gets an act from the four categories - boys, girls, groups and over-25s.

Cowell is also reportedly considering having a rotating fifth judge, with a different celebrity guest working with the panel each week.

The X Factor final begins on Saturday at 7.30pm on ITV1.

The video for the X Factor winner's single will reportedly be based on the a Baz Luhrmann-directed Chanel perfume advert featuring Nicole Kidman.

According to The Sun, the promo clips have already been recorded for the three remaining finalists Olly Murs, Stacey Solomon and Joe McElderry.

A source said: "Simon is going for a lavishly-produced video to give the song a massive boost.

"All three acts gave a great turn, so whoever wins it'll be a cracking video."

The videos reportedly feature the singers dancing in puddles while singing a cover of Miley Cyrus's 'The Climb' in front of a London skyline.

The X Factor final airs this Saturday and Sunday evening on ITV1.

The X Factor finalists were shocked to learn that one of them will be voted off this Saturday, therefore leaving the competition before Sunday’s big results night.

This year’s grand final, which takes place over two nights this Saturday and Sunday, will see Stacey Solomon, Olly Murs and Joe McElderry respectively perform with Michael Buble, Robbie Williams and George Michael.

But it has emerged that one of the contestants will have their dream crushed earlier than planned. X Factor bosses have indeed decided that whoever receives the fewest votes on Saturday will now leave on the night – and miss out on their chance to release their own single and compete for this year’s Christmas number one.

It’s also been reported that whoever wins this year’s X Factor will cover Miley Cyrus’s track The Climb and feature in a video based on one of the world’s most expensive ads ever, the Chanel advert starring Nicole Kidman.

The Sun reports that the video has already been recorded with each of the three contestants, and an X Factor source told the paper: “Simon is going for a lavishly-produced video to give the song a massive boost.

“All three acts gave a great turn, so whoever wins it’ll be a cracking video.”

But the X Factor version will be less costly and glamorous than the original: It will feature the X Factor winner dancing in puddles.

SIMON Cowell fears George Michael will pull out of Saturday’s X Factor final after pals warned he was in a “bad state”.

Music mogul Simon Cowell, 50, had convinced George Michael to perform a duet with Joe McElderry, 18.

But now ITV bosses are nervously making back-up plans in case George, 46, changes his mind at the 11th hour. An X-Factor said: “We have to plan for every eventuality.”

Close pals of the singer have described their fear for his health after he defended his love for drugs and cruising for gay sex.

Sir Elton John’s partner David Furnish, 47, said: “A lot of George’s friends keep calling us saying: ‘You have to do something, George is in a bad way, he’s in a bad state.’

“I respect George, I love George, he’s a huge talent. George has to want to help himself. If he wants help we are here for him, if he doesn’t want help that’s fine.”

The singer’s friends are desperate for him to perform as an appearance in front of a huge TV audience would help launch his comeback following the release of his festive track, December Song (I Dreamed Of Christmas).

But our TV source added: “Way things are going for George it seems it’s touch and go whether he will appear or not.

“We can’t have Joe left at a disadvantage by not having anyone to duet with, so plans are being put together just in case.”

George spoke out last week to defend his drug use and “cottaging” on Hampstead Heath, north London.

He even called on Sir Elton, 62, to “get on with his own life”.

George said: “People want to see me as tragic with all the cottaging and drug-taking.

“Those things are not what most people aspire to and I think it removes people’s envy to see your weaknesses.

“I don’t even see them as weaknesses any more. It’s just who I am. I’ll do it on a nice summer evening.”

Last night an X Factor spokeswoman said: “We haven’t confirmed any of the acts performing this weekend.”
