Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) and Katie (Sammy Winward) are fraught with worry when Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) is still nowhere to be found. After a long search of the farm Diane is horrified to find Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) on top of some hay bales. Katie tries to gently coax him down but Andy appears not to know who she is. Katie persists and Andy eventually agrees to come down. They take Andy inside and Diane slowly comes to terms with his degenerate state of mind. Paddy (Dominic Brunt) waits for the DEFRA representative to arrive and remarks that Andy reminds him of how Zoe was during her mental breakdown. While Paddy goes to greet his contact from DEFRA, Diane’s heart breaks as Andy once again asks to see Jack. Paddy returns to explain that some of the livestock are poorly and will have to be slaughtered. Diane gathers herself and tells Andy that she’s going to take care of him. Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) crumbles, as Katie and Diane lead Andy away with DEFRA cordoning off the farm. Andy fails to register that he may never return to Butler’s. Will his life ever be the same again?
Meanwhile, while Lexi (Sally Oliver) expresses her joy with being pregnant, Jimmy (Nick Miles) sees that Carl (Tom Lister) still isn’t convinced. Lexi arranges a baby shopping trip with a typically underwhelmed Nicola (Nicola Wheeler). Carl does his best to summon some enthusiasm when he hears about the trip and Jimmy is pleased to realise he’s making an effort. Later, the girls return with Nicola having bought stuff for herself whereas Lexi delights in showing off her purchases to Carl. Carl does his best to play up to Lexi’s excitement. Can he settle into fatherhood?
Elsewhere, Lexi announces to the factory staff that due to the economic downturn one of them is going to be laid off. The factory workers agree that the only way to choose is by selecting a name out of a hat, but Lexi is astonished when Pollard (Chris Chittell) endorses the suggestion that she be included in the process. Pollard selects but when Lisa’s (Jane Cox) name emerges from the hat he refuses to sack his best worker and invokes a veto. Pollard chooses again and is forced to make an absent Doug (Duncan Preston) redundant. Lisa breaks the news to Doug, but he’s furious and states his intention to take legal action. Will Doug ruin Pollard’s business?

PI for Tuesday 30 June.
Lexi (Sally Oliver) has a rough night and arrives at work in some pain. The factory workers assume she’s hung-over but when Lexi collapses they realise it’s something more serious. Carl (Tom Lister) is alerted to the problem as Lexi is rushed to hospital. The villagers all look for answers from Jimmy (Nick Miles) as it’s clear she’s in a bad way. At the hospital Carl is an emotional wreck as the paramedics relay Lexi’s worrying condition to the doctors. She suffers an ectopic pregnancy which ends in emergency surgery and a blood transfusion. As doctors and nurses rush in and out of the operating room, each telling him nothing, Carl blames himself for not being more supportive of her pregnancy. The operation goes well but the doctor explains that because Lexi’s been unconscious she has no idea what’s happened to her or the baby. Carl tells Lexi what happened and Lexi is devastated and blames herself for failing to provide Carl with a child. As they come to terms with the day’s events Carl is finding it hard to forgive himself. Can their marriage survive such a crippling blow?
At the Woolpack, the doctor sees Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) and tells Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) she suspects he’s clinically depressed. After the doctor states that she’s referring him to a specialist for professional help Diane realises just how grave the situation has become. She asks Debbie (Charley Webb) if Andy can see Sarah when he’s feeling a bit better and Debbie agrees, though secretly dreads the idea of leaving her with him in his current state. Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) questions Diane on what is going on at Butler’s and she reminds him that they have a legally binding lease and she and Andy will decide when to give up the farm. Later, Andy decides he wants to go to work at six in the evening and Diane is under no illusions that they have a long way to go. Can she support Andy alone?
Elsewhere, Chas (Lucy Pargeter) is deeply concerned for Carl’s sake when she sees Lexi being taken in the ambulance. Paddy (Dominic Brunt) suggests they go to the hospital to check they’re both ok but Chas gently tells him it’s ok, appreciating his understanding. Later, Marlon (Mark Charnock) accidentally reveals that Chas has planned a surprise 40th birthday party for him. Paddy tells Marlon that he is thinking of asking Chas to marry him, but Marlon suggests he might be rocking the boat too soon and unnecessarily. However, he soon gives Paddy his support. After cooking a meal for Chas and Aaron (Danny Miller) Paddy creates a romantic atmosphere for he and Chas. However, a series of distractions from Aaron causes Paddy to bottle it. Will he summon the courage to pop the question?

PI for Wednesday 1 July.
Paddy (Dominic Brunt) tries to enjoy his birthday in spite of Aaron (Danny Miller) taking every opportunity to stick the boot in. Chas (Lucy Pargeter) sends him off to work so she can make plans for the party which he already secretly knows about. Paddy tells Marlon (Mark Charnock) that he bottled the proposal, but is encouraged when Marlon tells him it’s a chance for him to get everything he wants. Paddy decides to write a poem telling Chas how he feels. However, Aaron overhears them talking about the poem and steals one of Paddy’s draft copies. Paddy lays into Aaron when he ruins his birthday party by mocking his proposed proposal. Embarrassed, Paddy tells Chas that he had planned on proposing but realised he had just got carried away turning 40. Chas tells him she is relieved. They agree to never get married, but Paddy is tinged with sadness. Will Chas ever love him the way he loves her?
Meanwhile, Carl (Tom Lister) struggles to connect with Lexi (Sally Oliver) as his guilty conscious lingers. Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) pays Lexi a visit and witnesses first hand the emotional turmoil she’s going through. Later that day Carl has no choice but to reassure his wife when Lexi asks if they can get through this. However, the look in his eyes indicates he’s not entirely convinced. Is Carl about to give up on Lexi when she needs him most?
Over at Home Farm, Mark (Maxwell Caulfield) and Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) maintain their peaceful façade in front of the children. Maisie (Alice Coulthard) and Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) are both worried that their behaviour has caused a rift between their parents. When Mark returns home late from work and is forced to eat dinner alone it’s obvious that all is not well in the house of Wylde.

PI for Thursday 2 July.
Maisie (Alice Coulthard) and Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) ask Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) to clear Natasha’s (Amanda Donohoe) diary so they can plan a surprise for her. When Natasha finds out that Nicola has rescheduled some important meetings without her consent, the Wylde children are forced to come clean to their parents that they’ve booked them a hotel break to give them some time together. Secretly hating the thought of spending alone time with Mark, Natasha tries to make excuses but Maisie and Nathan refuse to take no for an answer. However, once the kids have gone Natasha resumes her hostile stance towards Mark (Maxwell Caulfield). She agrees to go on the break as long as they have separate beds. Mark is frustrated to get a call from a frantic Faye (Kim Thomson) who states they need to meet as Ryan (James Sutton) has decided to join the army. Will Mark agree to help Faye change their son’s mind?
Paddy (Dominic Brunt) refuses to speak with Aaron (Danny Miller), but both regret the intensity of their confrontation at the party. Paddy is still quietly disappointed that Chas (Lucy Pargeter) doesn’t want to consider marriage but he tells Marlon (Mark Charnock) that it’s for the best. As the village gossip begins to exaggerate Paddy and Aaron’s encounter, Chas calls Paddy home for an early night. At home Aaron makes a genuine apology to Paddy, who responds in kind. Aaron gives Paddy his birthday present – a key ring he won at an arcade, Paddy admires the attempt to build bridges and dares to think he and Chas might have made a breakthrough with her unruly son. Is taming Aaron going to be that easy?
Meanwhile, Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) is invited out via an internet dating site. Jamie (Alex Carter) helps her write a reply accepting the date. Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) is unaware of her foray into cyberspace and worries that Gennie has no life. What will she make of Gennie’s unorthodox dating methods?

PI for Friday 3 July.
Ryan (James Sutton) is angered when Mark (Maxwell Caulfield) arrives to visit Faye (Kim Thomson) and viciously warns him not to upset her. Mark fails to see the problem with Ryan joining the army and puts Faye in her place by claiming that Ryan is not his problem. Mark leaves and arrives home to explain the situation to Natasha (Amanda Donohoe). He reveals that Faye asked him to help Ryan find alternative employment. At Faye’s flat, Ryan is not impressed to return home and find his mother in tears and smashing up their crockery. Ryan tells her that he will be joining the army but promises to sort out her problems with Mark before he leaves. At the hotel Mark is shocked when Natasha insists they live separate lives for the foreseeable future. He starts to realise just how much everything has affected her when Natasha declares she can see no way for them to revive their marriage. Are the Wyldes heading for divorce?
Meanwhile, Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) is in two minds over whether to go on her internet date. Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) is concerned when she assumes Gennie is going on a date with Jamie (Alex Carter) so they are left with no choice but to explain about the internet site and Gennie tells her that Jamie is her moral support in case the guy is a weirdo. Gennie meets her date in the Woolpack and is delighted with her catch, though she fails to notice a tinge of disappointment from him. Jamie tries to console Gennie when her internet date is disappointed she didn’t look as good as her photo. However, Gennie bemoans her rotten luck and suggests she’ll always be alone. Can Jamie find another way to raise her spirits?
Elsewhere, David (Matthew Wolfenden) resents being pushed into a confrontation with Pollard (Chris Chittell) under orders from Edna (Shirley Stelfox). Pollard explains to David that he is only days away from closing the factory altogether. David is torn when Pollard goes on to admit he is facing financial ruin and the funeral parlour may be his only hope. Edna reminds him that he was voted in as he promised to serve the village. David is caught between a rock and a hard place, but which side will he choose?
