U2 frontman Bono Vox is one of the most recognisable rock 'n' roll stars on the planet. The Irish singer's penchant for political activism and cosy cups of tea with George Bush, Tony Blair and the Pope has helped his band become one of the most successful acts of the last 30 years. The group's 12th studio album No Line On The Horizon is released next week and to celebrate, we've gathered up ten intriguing tidbits about the frontman. Read on if you want to know why he always wears those blooming sunglasses!

    1. Bono was born on May 10, 1960 in Glasnevin, Dublin. His real name is Paul David Hewson.

    2. Before getting the nickname Bono, friends called him 'Steinvic von Huyseman', 'Huyseman', 'Bon Murray' and 'Bono Vox of O'Connell Street'. Pal Gavin Friday came up with the Bono Vox idea after spotting a hearing aid shop in Dublin with the name.

    3. Why does Bono rarely leave the house without sunglasses? "[I have] very sensitive eyes to light. If somebody takes my photograph, I will see the flash for the rest of the day... So it's part vanity, it's part privacy and part sensitivity."

    4. Bono's list of collaborators reads like a Who's Who of popular music. The singer's teamed up with stars as diverse as Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Luciano Pavarotti, Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, Kylie and Jennifer Lopez. Not bad!

    5. Not just a singer, political activist and charity worker, Bono has also very occasionally tried his hand at movies. He appeared as Dr Robert in musical Across The Universe and filmed cameos in Million Dollar Hotel and Ronnie Drew: September Song.

    6. He may come across like a rock 'n' roll superstar, but Bono's just as susceptible to everyday mistakes as the rest of us, such as forgetting his wife Ali Hewson's birthday. To make up for the error, he dedicated the track 'The Sweetest Thing' to her and gave all her all the sale proceeds. Oi Bono! We think you forgot our birthday as well!

    7. If the singing career hadn't worked out, Bono may have taken up chess. "At 12 I studied the grandmasters, and I was fascinated," said the U2 star.

    8. Bono holds the impressive title of being the only person to have been nominated for an Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe, and the Nobel Prize. Flipping show off!

    9. He may come across as a do-gooder, but Bono wasn't an angel at school. He was allegedly thrown out of Dublin's cathedral school St Patrick's for "throwing dog turds" at the Spanish teacher.

    10. At U2's earliest gigs, Bono encouraged the band to do Bay City Rollers covers because he enjoyed hearing females fans getting excited. "We weren't really playing that kind of music but we noticed that if we played the first few chords of this particular Bay City Rollers song all the girls would scream - and we liked that."

Ivan, who had severe epilepsy and cerebral palsy, was taken ill overnight and died in hospital this morning

David Cameron's son Ivan, who was severely disabled, died early this morning, the Conservative party announced today.

Ivan, who was six and who was the eldest of Cameron's three children, needed constant care as a result of the severe epilepsy and cerebral palsy he had suffered from birth.

A Tory party spokesman announced the news of Ivan's death this morning.

"It is with great sadness that David and Samantha Cameron must confirm the death of their six-year-old son Ivan.

"Ivan, who suffered from cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy, was taken ill overnight and died at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, early this morning.

"David and Samantha would ask that their privacy is respected at this terribly difficult time."

The birth of Ivan in 2002 had a profound effect on Cameron, who had suffered very few setbacks in his life before this. The Tory leader has admitted that learning about Ivan's illness hit him "like a freight train", but his friends believe that the experience of caring for Ivan gave him a much deeper understanding of the difficulties faced by people with a less sheltered upbringing.

Ivan needed care at night and Cameron and his wife often took turns sleeping in his room. He also needed constant visits to hospital, and Cameron's passionate commitment to the NHS – which has marked him out from other Tory leaders – was largely influenced by the contact he has had with Ivan's carers.

The Camerons had to adapt their home in west London to accommodate Ivan, who needed a special lift to get him in and out of his bath.

Like Tony Blair, but unlike Gordon Brown, Cameron has always been keen to talk about his children and to be photographed with them. Ivan was not able to talk, but Cameron has spoken with obvious delight about the pleasure he got from seeing Ivan smile at him.

RIP Ivan. My thoughts go out to David and Samantha

Rihanna has reportedly reunited with Chris Brown, less than three weeks after being allegedly assaulted by the star.

The R&B singer is believed to be spending time with Brown at one of Sean Combs's homes on Miami Beach's Star Island.

A source told People magazine: "They're together again. They care for each other."

The insider added: "While Chris is reflective and saddened about what happened, he is really happy to be with the woman he loves."

Brown was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Rihanna in the early hours of February 8.

In the aftermath of the alleged incident, reports suggested that the 'Disturbia' star had agreed to dump her boyfriend following discussions with her family.

Not good news if he did in fact attack her unless he seeks treatment for his anger issues.

Hopefully she'll see how nasty he is and get rid of him for good. If he's willing hurt her, he's just not worth it.

Katie Price has revealed that she was sexually abused by a stranger at the age of six, a report claims today.

The glamour model is believed to have spoken about the ordeal for the first time in a TV interview with Piers Morgan, which is due to be broadcast next weekend.

According to the News Of The World, Price explained that the incident occurred while she played hide and seek at a park close to her home. It is believed that the attacker exposed himself to Price and one of her friends, before touching both girls.

"[It was] some weirdo. Oh, you know what I'm saying. Just some weirdo in a park," Price is quoted by the newspaper as saying.

After struggling to compose herself, she continued: "Well, it's never affected me. But obviously it must have done, for me to just feel like that. But I don't know. You just learn to get on with things, don't you? I haven't got a problem normally with it so I don't know why I do have a problem with it now."

Price added that, though the incident was investigated by police, her attacker was never caught.

The star's interview will be aired on Piers Morgan's Life Stories on ITV1 next Sunday.

Farah Fawcett says goodbyes as cancer takes hold

Farah Fawcett has reportedly dismissed her staff and said farewell to her friends as she prepares to die from cancer.

The Charlie's Angels actress said her goodbyes before flying to Germany, where she will undergo experimental treatment in a last-ditch attempt to battle the disease.

A friend told the Sunday Mirror: "Farrah is feeling very alone. She doesn't want friends to see her with no hair and she's coming to terms with her impending death. She has got rid of all her staff and she has told friends it is likely she won't come back. She is exhausted and very ill."

Fawcett, 62, was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 and was given the all-clear a year later following treatment. The cancer, which Fawcett calls the "terrorist inside my body", returned in 2007.

Another person dying of this terrible disease
