Eli is arrested for Shane's murder
Airs on Monday, January 26 2009 at 19:00 GMT on ITV1

With the weight of the world on her shoulders, Laurel insists to Ashley that she’ll find out what’s wrong with Jasmine. Laurel tells Jasmine that the easiest thing to do would be to own up, but when Jasmine falters, Laurel can’t help but notice the power Debbie holds over her. Jasmine confesses that they’re an item once more. Laurel argues that in spite of everything, she must tell the truth and save an innocent man. A weary Jasmine agrees.

Later, Laurel is rocked to hear of Eli’s arrest and begs Jasmine and Debbie to turn themselves in immediately. Alone, Debbie tells Jasmine she loves her and that they have no option but to do a runner. Will the girls leave Eli to his fate?

Meanwhile, Zak does his best to get through to Eli but before he can open up, Mark interrupts their illegal fishing session. After Eli nearly thumps Mark, Zak knows that something is very wrong.

Back at the homestead, Eli falters under questioning and Zak knows he had something to do with Shane’s death. However, they're interrupted by the police who reveal that they have received the forensic evidence from the Dingle van. Without further warning, Eli is arrested. Will a wounded Eli stand up to police interrogation?

Elsewhere, Paul schemes to spend time with Rodney but when his father sidesteps him, suspicions are raised. Paul grows frustrated and asks Rodney why he won’t confide in him only to be met with confusion from his father.

Paul believes he can’t get through to Rodney and grows despondent. He shares his concerns with Diane and Nicola but the confusion stretches beyond their group when Pollard overhears and believes them to be speculating on his own health. Will Paul’s investigation lead to an unwanted discovery?

The police crack Eli resuling in Debbie's arrest
Airs on Tuesday, January 27 2009 at 19:00 GMT on ITV1

    One-hour episode

Eli is grilled by Henshall and Williams at the station who lay out the evidence and explain they’re pushing for a life sentence. Eli is frantic as the police reveal they’ve recovered parts of a mobile phone SIM card and the chair leg used to murder Shane from a bonfire at the Dingle’s. When the police give Eli once more chance or they’ll charge him with murder, Eli breaks down and confesses the truth.

Meanwhile, Debbie talks Jasmine through her plan to flee the country. But while Debbie goes about organising the particulars, Jasmine visits Laurel and suggests she’s going to the police. However, when she tries to leave, Laurel moves to stop her, knowing that her niece is lying. Jasmine knocks Laurel to the floor and leaves anyway.

Henshall leads a police convoy into the village to look for Debbie, who makes a break for it by smashing through the garage doors in a taxi. Jasmine is on a bus on her way to meet Debbie but the vehicle pulls over when the driver notices a police road block up ahead.

Jasmine is horrified to see Debbie’s taxi in the distance and witnesses the police escorting her to a police car. She watches helplessly but stays on the bus. Scared, she knows she must face this alone now. Can Jasmine leave her lover and Eli to their fate?

Elsewhere, as Pollard grows more concerned when Val buys a funeral hat, David has to defend his defection back to Nicola and admits to Betty that he’s comforting her because Rodney is dying.

At the café, Katie finds Paul checking an e-mail from Jonny who is flying back that day. He tells her he can’t join Jonny because of Rodney’s condition. Later, Pollard collars Rodney and anxiously asks whether his suspicions are true. Rodney nods to confirm that Pollard has a life threatening condition.

When Rodney leaves to meet Pam for another liaison at the B&B, Paul and Diane fear that his bedroom gymnastics may cause heart failure. Confronting his father, Paul discovers Val has been lying about both Rodney and Pollard’s ill health. He forgives her lie but bids the village farewell as he heads off to Australia with Jonny. Will Paul and Jonny live happily ever after?

    Zak disowns Eli
Airs on Wednesday, January 28 2009 at 19:00 GMT on ITV1

Laurel breaks down when telling Ashley about Jasmine's predicament and he proclaims that they’ve failed her. At the police station, Henshall confronts Debbie with the barrage of evidence against her and claims that along with Eli’s story, they have enough to put her away.

Back at Mulberry, Ashley is adamant that Jasmine should face the consequences of her actions and decides to take Laurel to the police station. The police are furious that Laurel withheld crucial information and she’s charged with perverting the course of justice.

Ashley bemoans the family’s situation with Laurel facing prison and Jasmine on the run. After Laurel has relayed her story, the police return to Debbie and charge her with manslaughter. Has time run out for Debbie Dingle?

At the Dingles', Eli returns a broken man. Ashamed of what he’s done, Eli attempts to dodge Zak’s questions about Debbie’s situation. As Zak threatens to beat the truth out of him, Eli cracks and blurts out that he and Debbie were both at Shane’s flat on the night of the murder. Zak is furious with Eli for not doing more to protect Debbie and soon realises that he is the reason Debbie is now the prime suspect.

Without warning, Zak flies at Eli and pins him against the wall. Despite Eli’s attempts to explain himself, Zak reasons that no Dingle should ever shop another to the police. In a rage, Zak disowns Eli and throws him out of the homestead. Has Eli finally blown it with his family?

Meanwhile, Donna is stunned to hear that Eli has been released and Debbie has arrested in his place. Donna is relived when she learns that Ross is to be released but when she tries to explain to Marlon that she had no part in Debbie's arrest, he doesn’t want to know. After Marlon shouts her out of the Woolpack, Donna is comforted by Katie and reveals her husband wants a divorce.

Referring to her marriage to Andy, Katie reminds her that feelings pass and life moves on. However, Donna responds by saying she can’t cope with Marlon forgetting about her. Katie urges her to carry on but Donna reveals she’s put in for a transfer to a station in Essex. Will Donna walk away from her life and marriage?

Ross bids farewell his friends and family
Airs on Thursday, January 29 2009 at 19:00 GMT on ITV1

Donna picks Ross up from prison and the tears soon flow as he sweeps her into a hug. After filling him in on the latest developments in Shane’s murder case, Donna tells Ross that Marlon has thrown her out. She tells Ross about her plans to transfer to Essex, giving Ross a stark reminder that he’s due to leave for Newcastle tonight.

Ross tells Donna he loves her but she declines his offer to start afresh with him elsewhere. Ross says goodbye to Paddy, hiding his emotion as he leaves alone for a job in Newcastle. Will Ross’ departure lead to reconciliation for Donna and Marlon?

Meanwhile, the Dingles rally round to keep Debbie’s businesses ticking over. Chas is incredulous when Carl comes round chasing the rent and warns him to keep away.

Relations between the Kings and Dingles are strained further when Pollard agrees to grant Lisa flexible working hours, much to Lexi’s annoyance. Can the Dingles make ends meet in Debbie’s time of need?

Elsewhere, Ashley’s nerves are fraught when they still have no news of Jasmine. That afternoon, Zak and Shadrach pay a visit to be talked through the events leading up to Jasmine’s disappearance. Both families bemoan that neither girl was honest with them.

Though Zak wants justice for his granddaughter, Shadrach reminds him that Jasmine is the only one who can corroborate Debbie’s story and they need to find her as much as the Thomases do. Will Jasmine make contact with her family and friends?

    Donna leaves the village
Airs on Friday, January 30 2009 at 19:00 GMT on ITV1

Donna tries to get close to Marlon but he can’t face her, despite the news that Ross has gone. Marlon returns to the Woolpack and can’t help feeling down when he learns that Donna was there to see Ross off.

Over at the police station, Donna tries to hand in her transfer papers but the sergeant sees her distress and advises her to give Marlon one more chance to take her back. Katie offers her the same advice but Donna refuses to buckle. Fearing she’s losing Donna, Katie ropes in Bob who begins to make some progress.

Back at the Woolpack, Marlon grows more uncomfortable at mentions of Ross’s tearful goodbye. Chas goes to set the record straight and tells Marlon they weren’t having a leaving party. Both wallowing in self pity, Marlon and Chas drunkenly share a kiss. Donna arrives to give Marlon one last chance to forgive her but she witnesses the misplaced kiss.

Laughing in spite of herself, Donna announces that she’s going to Essex. Marlon is unrepentant, sure their marriage is over. Donna’s mind is made up and she leaves the village for good. What now for Marlon?

Also, Lexi complains to Carl that the Dingles are taking them for a ride. Taking umbrage at their behaviour, Lexi collars Lisa at the factory and snipes that if Debbie can’t pay up, they’ll take the garage. Chas is furious and snaps at Carl in the Woolpack.

Furious that Lexi has started a war with the Dingles, Carl has a go at his girlfriend for making things personal. Are there cracks appearing in Carl and Lexi’s relationship
