Should there be a curfew for all teenagers?

i heard on the radio this morning that 53% of people thought that there should be a nation wide curfew of 9pm for all 10 - 16yr olds. do you agree with this? do you think it would stop so many teenage deaths?

If it is brought I'd say extend the age to 18.. I don't really mind tbh, if it saves lives then why not but it's really unfair to those who do nothing and follow rules and don't cause any trouble!

Hmm I don't know. See, there would always be some way that these kids would worm around it or they jsut simply wouldn't abide.
Anyways... should the nation really be responsible for curfews?? After all shouldn't the parents be authoritive and get their kids into a routine from an early age and provide reasonable curfews?? I don't know :/

I agree Kirsty. It's up to the parents to bring their children into line and set their own curfew. I don't think its right for people to dictate to parents how they should raise their children.

How many teenagers are really going to think, "right, it's nearly 9pm so I have to go home"? This idea will just add more stress and work to the police having to pick kids up and take them home after the curfew.

I don't see how it would reduce deaths, kids are still going to carry weapons. Just because they're not on the streets after 9pm doesn't mean they will stop knifing or shooting each other.
    Thanks CrazyLea

the problem is the parents are no longer doing the job theyre supposed to, there is no discipline and they are too busy trying to be their teenagers best friend instead of the adult they should be. its not just getting them off the streets because of the weapons it should also be because of the huge numbers on streets and in parks drinking heavily while their parents are apparently oblivious to all this. im all for a curfew myself and i myself have a teenager. she doesnt go out roaming the streets till all hours. in our road some of the little kids are out in the street on a school night at 9.30 playing football, and the road is a really busy one, no one seems to come out from their houses to even check on them!

I completely agree that parent's are trying to be the best friend insted of the parents these days Pookie.. which is why I think maybe there should be funding into parenting groups and classes for parents, where they can meet other parents and pick up on new tips on how to be authroitive but still able to have a sterdy relationship with their kids.

But as Abigail said about kids still carrying weapons and not reducing deaths... I agree with that too. These days kids are killing/being killed in broad daylight. I jsut don;t think a curfew would work. If kids won't listen to parents who are they going to listen too? It's all getting so difficult and there's no way adults.. or the good kids in this can win :/ Thats just my opinion though.. I think everyone has valid points in this.. it's jsut getting the Government/parents..whoever, to merge all these points into one.

I think they should set curfews for the kids who need them, the troublemakers. Why should I have to come home early just because of the actions of other people?
Peter: So how many are there? Is it bad? Olivia: Did you eat? Peter: Yeah. Olivia: Well, that's unfortunate.

Surely the parents are to blame for letting their kids out until stupid times, and letting them hang out on the street. Problem is, most parents won't let their children bring groups of people back to their houses, so what do they expect? Parents are responsible for their childrens actions until they are 18 years old, but a lot of parents seem to forget that. Stop blaming the kids for being out, and carrying knives, blame the parents who should be stopping them.

I agree, I think its just silly.
And I know this may not sound related, but I used to go to the cinema with my friends and we were in big groups and the cinema times used to quite late so by the time we got out ie. past 9pm and then would get the bus home or whatever. As our parents knew they could trust us.

It is the parents who should be responsible for setting curfews but as we know there are ones who don't give a monkey where their children are or what time they decide to come home at. If the police have to escort children and teenagers home after the curfew then the parents should be fined for everytime they will soon start acting responible when it starts hitting their purse. Where I live there are a number of younger kids out to all times and my daughter grumbles because she is in bed on school nights at 9pm. The family that lives upstairs from has 3 kids and she can be out with her kids until after 11 on a sunday night then they start thumping around the house.
