    Hair Loss?

I think I'm losing more hair than usual.. I think I better 'own up' to some things though..

    - I do straighten my hair and I go through these phases where I straighten my hair up to 4-5 times in a week. Though for the past few months I have gone without one-three weeks every now and then without straightening my hair. I only straighten it on special occasions, going out to a party etc.

    - I barely blow dry my hair but do VERY occasioanlly

    - I haven't coloured my hair in any way but I think I may be getting highlights this Saturday..

    - I do use heat protecting spray every time I use straightners..

    - I do condition my hair every time I shampoo it (every other day)

    - Hairdressers and everyone I know reccomends getting your hair trimmed to prevent split-ends for healthy hair every 6-8 weeks. I cut my hair every 6 months. My mum thinks it's a waste of money and I slightly do think so too. I could spend £120 on hair cutting every year but I only spend £40 every year, big saving I reckon..

*The underlined point is like my main point I think causing the problem, I'm not too sure though? Apparently you should trim split ends because it kills the hair upwards, making it weak and causing it to fall out.. I have a lot of split ends (next haircut is Dec. 6 months then..) What do you reckon?*

Well there you go lol, and when I straighten my hair, the night before I put on a serum which has heat protecting stuff in it too so yeah.. (have to put it in when hair's wet though and use blow dryer on it!)

I went to the doctor about it and he said use baby shampoo. Have been doing so and no changes? *Sighs* I don't know what to do..

Sorry I really dont understand the above ^^ sentence...

Apparently we all lose something like 100 hairs a day. So, there might be nothing for you to worry about.

However, if you are noticing thinning areas on your head, then there maybe a problem - one im sure, if you talked to you doctor about, can be resolved in most cases. Could be stress/diet related etc...

Using hair straighteners, I have heard, can put stress on the hair, and the pulling action can cause some hair to be pulled out - this in most cases grows back though.

I straighten my hair every day and mine is still in very good condition. I vary rarely use heat protector sprays and never use serum or hairspray.

I've started having my hair cut regularly this year, around every 8 - 10 weeks and I've noticed a change in the condition of my hair. Its much more shiny and manageable. I only pay £6. One salon in town charges £14 and they don't even give you what you ask for.

Theres a bit here on hair loss http://familydoctor.org/online/famdo...neral/081.html

I don't think the underlined point is your problem by the way. I very rarely get my hair cut/trimmed lol. I'm not losing more hair than usual. Probably stress like PB suggested? You under any?

hi i have exatly the same prolem as you and i have been noticing alot is coming out more than normal for the past few months but different amounts do fall out during different times of the year
i also used to straighten my hair every day but since last july i have rrely straightened it as i love it curly now and i have noticed it coming out more since i have stopped which i thought could be down to menot brushing it s much as i comb it to stop the curls frizzing which i thought could also be a problem as i notice more coming out in the shower than generlday to day stuff.

have you noticed any bald spots or areas u think are thinning and im not an expert and i dont cut my hair every 6 weeks but i think 6 months is far to long. and also if you have worries about your hair i wouldnt have it highlighted as it will weaken the hair even more.

    hope it is all ok

I think most people go through fazes where more hair falls out than normal, i dont think you should worry too much about it. As long as you use conditioner and hair protection spray, then theres no reason to worry majorly about it. Unless you get loads of hair falling out, and bald spots, of course.

This website tells you a bit about the patterns of hair loss: http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/womens_h...s_of_hair_loss

You might just want to check out your diet and how stressed out you're getting at the minute. Apart from that, i would't worry too much about it.

You could always try seeing a Doctor if you're really concerned though. Or maybe a pharmasist.

I am not under a great deal of stress.. I do REALLY think about little things in life.. and something possibly small like this is making me feel stressed out. I'm doing GCSE coursework etc etc. but I'm on top of everything but I don't feel stressed about that. Just other things that don't really matter but come into my attention. I try to stop thinking too much about it and worrying about it but I can't help it..

No bald spots, just random things.. It falls out when I have a shower and I comb my hair after (with a really good leave-in conditioner) to get the knots out, do it very slowly though.. and I think all the 100 come out in one go lol.. I have long hair and it makes it look like alot which worries me even more.

I think I will get my hair trimmed every 3 instead of 6 months from next year or something.. Haven't really got much time before then anyways.

To PB: I meant that I think because I am getting my haircut every 6 months instead of the every 6-8 weeks is the cause of my hair loss but I'm not sure. x

Stress can sometimes cause you to be late but you say you haven't been under any as such. You should get it checked out though, see your practice nurse or a female doc.

Well I hope now you have some ideas as to what might be causing it, you hopefully wont feel soooo stressed! Also you can do something about it. A trip to the docs is a good idea!
