Emmerdale star Joe Absolom has revealed how long he'll be on the ITV soap for.

The former EastEnders actor is current in the 'Dales as villain Ray Walters, who's involved in the current drug dealing storyline.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain this week, Absolom revealed that Ray will be around for a few more months, at least.

When asked by host Richard Madeley if he thinks soaps have a future, he replied with a laugh that "I hope they have 'til November, 'cause that's when my contract [ends]."

Of course, depending on where the storyline goes and fan reaction to Ray, there's the possibility he could sign a new contract be on Emmerdale for longer, but this is confirmation that he's not going anywhere for the short-term.

Going back to Madeley's question, Absolom said that his kids don't sit down and watch TV together in the evenings like he used to, as there's so much more choice nowadays.

He added that it might come back around to how it was to some degree, as he thinks that the on-demand world of streaming might be getting a bit "boring".

Having previously played Matthew Rose on EastEnders between 1997 and 2000, Madeley and Kate Garraway said they had to ask how his experience differed between the two soaps.

"I did EastEnders a long time ago and I remember it being good fun, but Emmerdale seems to be genuinely a really nice place to work," he replied. "I keep waiting for someone to go 'This isn't the real job, this is the real job and it's worse'. But it's really good fun.

"It's quick but it's not rushed, that's what I found with Emmerdale. The crews are really good and the set is... they've built a real village. It's a proper place so they can film anywhere.

"That means you can work quickly but you don't feel rushed. You sorta get through it. I remember EastEnders, we would do lots and lots of talking. This seems nicer."

Emmerdale is planning a special flashback week to unmask Ray Walters's killer. Various residents of the village had motives for wanting Ray gone, but who took drastic steps to get rid of the villain?

Ray's fate was revealed to viewers in Monday night's episode, as an unknown assailant was seen dragging his body through the village. In a subsequent scene in the Corriedale crossover event, it was revealed that Ray's corpse had been secretly hidden in a van being driven by Jai Sharma.

Next week, the story steps up a gear as police descend on Caleb Miligan's depot to follow up on the recent drug scandal that engulfed the business.

Ray's body is found in the van and the police immediately make Jai their prime suspect, causing him to lash out as he starts trying to point the finger elsewhere.

Emmerdale's producer Laura Shaw revealed: "Following the discovery of Ray's body, villagers' secrets will come out as the mystery surrounding Ray's death is finally solved.

"Before the end of January, a special week will flash back to the night of the murder, revealing which of the multiple suspects is responsible for Ray's demise."

A recently-released spoiler picture shows the other suspects line up, as Ross Barton, Rhona Goskirk, Marlon Dingle, Bob Hope, April Windsor, Laurel Thomas, Arthur Thomas, Dylan Penders and Paddy Dingle meet after dark. They're all hiding secrets, but is one of them a killer?

Paddy's involvement in the storyline comes after his father Bear Wolf was drawn into modern slavery by Ray and Celia Daniels. Had Paddy found something out about this before Ray died?

Shaw added: "While Paddy is still out searching for his missing father, the bleak truth is that Bear has been killed by the villainous Celia.

"This emotional search and tragic discovery will bring Paddy's mental health problems back to the forefront."

Noooooooo! That would be too cruel to have killed Bear. How much darker are they trying to make this show?
