You have to apply for whichever visa (I expect in their case Non Lucrative Visa) which means they have to provide proof of savings (around €30000), you have to pay for private health isnurance which is costly and you cannot work.

We know she was bent but did she have that much money ? ?30,000 is not a huge amount of money and if you cannot work if would start to diminish from the moment you arrive.
