I do not think we saw Joel smash it, Vicki was not even holding it when he hit her, but somehow it ended up on the floor near her when he left the house. She could not reach it with her right hand, but it looked to be within reach of her left hand.

So Joel mouths off to his Dad, saying, "You're dead to me."
Wonder how long it would take before he blubbed like a baby, when his Dad ignores him. Maybe Ross can get some advice from Harvey, he has a thug for a son too!

One thing that Eastenders cannot do is show a convincing car crash. Two women end up in hospital as a result of Nigel's slow motion crash, one who was not even hit by the car. They tried to convince us that Nigel accelerated hard when his foot pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. Yet when he came to a stop Jasmine was lying in front of the car and Gina was just behind it. So obviously the car was not going fast.
