Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has spoken about his dramatic exit storyline for the first time. His character Billy Mayhew will be leaving the cobbles early next year ? and his final plot is one that's not to be missed.
Show bosses announced in May that Billy will be "tested in ways he never imagined" over the coming months, which will ultimately lead to the vicar bowing out in a top-secret story.
Speaking exclusively to us on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards 2025, Daniel reflected on how it feels to be saying goodbye to Coronation Street after an impressive 11-year run.
"It's a mixed bag of feelings," he admitted. "I am so excited. I've been an actor for 32 years, 11 of which have been spent at Corrie. Which is a long time ? a third of my career has been spent there.
"I will of course miss going into work every day. I won't miss the people because I'll see them all the bloody time anyway! All my mates that I see at work, I'll see them all the time."
Asked if producers have told him about how Billy leaves yet, he replied: "I know what my storyline is! Of course I'm not going to tell you that, but yes I do know. I am [happy with it]. I think it's befitting?"
Fans have been worried for Billy recently after concerning signs that he's getting under the skin of new villain Theo Silverton. Deeply possessive in his relationship, Theo clearly disapproves of his partner Todd Grimshaw being so friendly with Billy.
"It's tough times," Daniel confirmed. "Obviously Todd's going through a bit of a tough time. I think Billy is a little none-the-wiser at the moment!
"But I'm always looking forward to exploring the drama. That's what we do best at Corrie, so we'll see how it develops."
Looking forward, Daniel has already bagged a new job away from Coronation Street which will allow him to show a whole new side of his personality.
"What I'm most excited about is the work that's coming up," he told us. "I'm going straight into a musical. I'm doing Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein at the Playhouse in Leeds. So I'm going straight into something that's really left-field from Corrie ? comedy, a musical.
"I think I might even be doing a bit of tap-dancing, which Billy never did! He took heroin, he never tap-danced! So I'm hugely excited to get back out there into the world and see what's going on, I can't wait."
The Inside Soap Awards 2025 took place in London on Monday night (September 29) and saw Corrie walk away with the top prize for Best Soap.

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has reportedly filmed his final scenes for the ITV soap, almost 11 years to the month after his character Billy Mayhew first appeared on the Cobbles (5 December 2014, to be precise).
The Sun has reported that the actor has wrapped up his long stint on Corrie, although neither he nor the soap's official social media accounts have posted about it at the time of writing.
The news isn't unexpected, as it had already been announced recently that the actor had landed a role in the musical production of Young Frankenstein, performing in the Liverpool run of shows from 3 December to 3 January. Tickets are on sale here if you're keen.
Last month, Brocklebank teased his newest role in a chat with Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards, stating: "I'm going straight into something that's really left-field from Corrie ? comedy, a musical.
"I think I might even be doing a bit of tap-dancing, which Billy never did! He took heroin, he never tap-danced! So I'm hugely excited to get back out there into the world and see what's going on, I can't wait."
Though his on-screen exit will occur in the early part of 2026, the actor didn't tease what his exit storyline could consist of, but he did state that he was happy with it and thinks that it's "befitting" for his character.
When he announced his departure back in May, Brocklebank said: "I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work."
"I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds," continued the star, who has also appeared on fellow ITV soap Emmerdale.
Over the years, Billy's storylines have seen him get together and break up with Sean Tully and Todd Grimshaw, and care for his husband Paul Foreman before he eventually passed away from motor neurone disease.
There was also his adoption storyline, as well as the aforementioned one that saw him briefly become addicted to drugs.
