Still going to jail though ... so Robert will hopefully come back to Emmerdale, maybe with a different head but it would be nice to see Aaron waiting for him and the two then continuing to live married life.... but I know, in soapland that is highly unlikely .... just would be nice to see for a change ..
Emmerdale has responded to the speculation that Robert Sugden could be set to make a return to the soap after the soap began to revisit the character's exit storyline.
Fans will remember that, back in 2019, Robert (Ryan Hawley) was sentenced to prison for his part in Lee Posner's death, but earlier this month Lee's brother Luke Posner (Max Parker) revealed he was involved in an upsetting altercation with his brother on the same day that Robert attacked Lee with a shovel.
The revelation encouraged Luke and Lee's mother Wendy (Susan Cookson) to ask lawyer Ethan (Emile John) to look into whether Luke's admission could help free Robert, something which angered her son in the soap's latest episode.
But while the storyline has got fans talking about Robert potentially making a return to the Dales, it seems we shouldn't expect Robert to come back to the village anytime soon.
An Emmerdale spokesperson told Digital Spy: "There are no current plans for the character of Robert to return."
Of course you can never say never in Soapland and, considering Robert was initially sentenced to 14 years in prison, it seems like this storyline could at least be setting up a reduced sentence for the fan-favourite character in case the soap changes its mind further down the line.
The character of Robert Sugden was initially written out of the soap after actor Ryan Hawley chose to leave Emmerdale.
Recently, Hawley's former co-star Isobel Steele, who plays Liv Flaherty, spoke about how much she misses him on set.
"[Danny Miller and I] do miss Ryan a lot," Isobel told Digital Spy. "We were really close when we filmed together. When you're filming every day, you become really good friends.
"We do miss that dynamic and I know that the fans do as well. Hopefully they convince him to come back! He's just had a baby, so I don't know how soon he'd be coming back, so fingers crossed."

EMMERDALE star Max Parker has quit the soap after two years playing Luke Posner.
The actor will exit the soap in the coming weeks after his character Luke was outed for being gay. Viewers know Luke is in a relationship with Victoria Sugden.
His brother Lee brutally raped Victoria and later he was killed after Robert Sugden hit him with a shovel.
However it emerged last week that on the day of the attack, Lee was knocked unconscious by Luke - meaning he could be responsible for Lee?s death and not Robert.
It has paved the way for Robert (Ryan Hawley) to return but either way Luke will be leaving. A source said: ?Max was never going to stay on the soap for years.
?He?s ambitious and a talented guy - he?s already auditioning for new roles and excited for the future.
?But never say never - there?s always a chance he could return one day.?
The star also met his boyfriend on the soap. The Sun exclusively revealed how he and on-screen brother Kris Mochrie began dating after meeting on the soap.
The couple now live in a luxury penthouse apartment in Manchester.

Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley will reportedly reprise his role as Robert Sugden after a six-year absence from the soap.
Hawley last appeared on the ITV soap back in 2019, with the character being sentenced to 14 years in jail following the murder of Lee Posner.
After his previous five-year stint, The Sun has reported that Hawley has already completed filming for his one-off comeback, with his latest scenes set to air next month.
Digital Spy has reached out for comment but there's no official word on the storyline yet.
Hawley debuted as Robert in 2014, becoming the fourth actor to play the character following Richard Smith, Christopher Smith and Karl Davies. Following his departure, Hawley has had roles on Silent Witness, All Creatures Great and Small and Casualty.
Whilst the exact nature of Robert's arc is unclear, we can be relatively sure that it will involve his ex-husband Aaron Dingle, who is currently preparing for his wedding to Robert's villainous half-brother John.
Despite initially appearing as a kind-hearted individual, it has gradually been revealed that John has been harbouring several secrets following his arrival in the village last year, with the doctor possessing a dangerous hero complex.
Such is his desire to portray himself as the good guy, John has manufactured several situations ? including intentionally injuring people in order to save the day ? to his own advantage as he plays to his ego, with the figure also being confirmed as Nate Robinson's killer.
Oliver Farnworth, who debuted as John in August, said of his character's dark storyline: "For me, the exciting thing is that the viewers find out first before anyone else in the village. So it's letting them into these big secrets that John's been harbouring.
"It's caused him a lot of stress and anguish having to hide things. I think the fact that the viewers find out first is going to be really exciting, although I'll see what the backlash is, I guess! It was bound to happen at some point, so I'm glad it's come out now."

Emmerdale returning star Ryan Hawley has said his character Robert Sugden is back in the Dales to stay.
Hawley reprised the role of Robert in tonight's jaw-dropping episode, which saw Robert interrupting the wedding of his ex-husband Aaron Dingle and his half-brother, John Sugden.
Weighing in on the shocking moment that left Aaron and the soap's fans speechless, Hawley confirmed Robert isn't going anywhere.
"The secret is out today! My character is returning permanently and not just for Aaron and John's wedding. I am back for good, and I am so excited to be playing Robert again," the actor told The Mirror.
While the two exes' surprise reunion may not be the friendliest, Hawley revealed that he and Aaron star Danny Miller stayed in touch after he left the show, with Miller reaching out to him to have him back on Emmerdale.
"Recently, while I was living in Brazil with my family, where we had been for the past year, Danny texted to see how I would feel. We've always kept in touch, and after a lot of thought, I told him, 'Yeah, I am up for it. ' I then got a call swiftly from the producers, and it went from there," Hawley explained.
Robert's motivations may not be clear at present but, whatever his reasons to stop the wedding, he might be doing Aaron a favour.
"[Robert] causes disasters wherever he goes, but on this occasion, he wants to stop the wedding ? and while it will cause chaos, it's also the right thing to do, because we know John isn't right for Aaron," Hawley said.
As fans know, Aaron's fianc? John accidentally killed Nate Robinson and covered up his death, continuing leaving a deadly wake in the village.
As for Robert, he was last seen on the soap in 2019, when he was sent to prison for the murder of rapist Lee Posner.
Must be one of the early prisoner release cases for him to be out on probation ....![]()
