Yes they are related. Caleb is the son of Frank Tate and Joe is the son of Chris Tate who was the son of Frank. I will leave you to work out how they are related.

With all the money that Joe has you would think he could buy a kidney elsewhere rather than go through all of this palaver.

I guess it explains the flashforward with Caleb but how does he know Caleb will be a match when Noah isn't.

Am I understanding this correctly, were they going to remove Noah's kidney without knowing if he was a match. Or did they spike him just to check compatability? If they were only checking compatability did they need to take him into an operating room? Does this dodgy doctor have his own operating room, and is it hidden in the woods? Is the doctor going to operate on his own, without a nurse and anesthetist if so, seems incredibly risky? As you say with all his money there must be a safer option. If I say I find this a bit far fetched I am not exaggerating.

Just checking compatability, the doctor indicated Noah wasn't a match. I believe you need a blood relative to get a good match, this would make Caleb ideal as Frank Tate was the father of both Caleb and Joe's dad Chris Tate.

Yes but the doctor said "we should check compatibility before getting him on the operating table".which seems to suggest they were prepared to go ahead with the operation if he was compatible. They ccould probably have checked compatibility in the pub toilet or any other quiet place. Not sure I would trust some doctor who checked then said "OK let's do it". Had Joe been "Nil by mouth" and undergone the usual checks before an operation.
