Not having watched this soap for a few years now, I am not sure that they made a glue factory out of the launderette in the meantime ...

EastEnders star Louisa Lytton has promised a dramatic return for Ruby Allen as she makes her way back to Walford later this year.

Ruby (played by Lytton) was last seen in 2021, after she was framed by Jean Slater and arrested for growing cannabis.

Shortly before her arrest, Ruby had claimed she was pregnant with her husband Martin Fowler's baby. However, after her various lies, Martin was reluctant to believe her and Ruby was sent to prison, leaving viewers unsure of the truth.

It was recently revealed that Ruby was, in fact, pregnant, when Chrissie Watts confirmed the news about her former cellmate. As Ruby returns to Albert Square, will she be back to cause trouble?

"That's Ruby's character ? she comes in and ruffles feathers, does the wrong thing and says the wrong thing, and she definitely comes back with a lot of drama," Lytton told The Sun's TV Mag.

"But now she's a mum, she does have her priorities in order. Although she'll still make mistakes, I don't think she'll go out of her way to make mistakes or make wrong decisions like she has done in the past.

"Being a mum has finally given Ruby a purpose in life, which I think has been something that's been missing for a long time."

Like her character, Lytton welcomed her first child after leaving the soap. "It's lovely to come in playing a mum now that I'm a mum ? there's nothing like knowing those feelings," she reflected.

The actor admitted she was "so nervous" to return to EastEnders, but quickly felt "like I'd never left".

She added: "I've been a part of this show for 20 years now, so it feels right for Ruby to come back. I feel like there's so much we need to wrap up with her. There's so many characters that she has a history with."
