Wishing Well Cottage was originally a barn, a part of Holdgate Farm, and was rented out to the Dingles by Mr Holdgate. According to Lisa Dingle in 2017, the house held fifty years' worth of Dingle history, meaning that the family had lived there since at least 1967.

When Mr. Holdgate died in September 1995, Frank Tate, who had bought Holdgate Farm as part of the Home Farm Estate, tried to evict the Dingles as he technically owned the house. However, many of the villagers banded together to save the Dingles house so the Tates were forced to agree to allow the Dingles to stay and rent it.

In 1998, the Dingles faced loosing their home again after Lady Tara Oakwell's financial issues meant she had to sell off chunks of the Home Farm Estate. Tara's lawyer Laura Johnstone agreed to let the Dingles buy their house for ?6,000, believing they'd never be able to raise the money. Her suspicions looked to be proved correct when the Dingles didn't have the money by the 1st October deadline so Zak, Lisa, Butch, and Mandy were forced to move out. However, Mandy managed to come up with the money after her boyfriend Paddy Kirk's mother Barbara paid her to marry someone else in the hopes that it would end her relationship with Paddy once and for all. After Mandy married her cousin Butch, Barbara handed over the cash and the Dingles were able to buy their house back.

After Debbie Dingle moved out in early 2006, the Dingles transformed her old bedroom into a self-contained flat to give Sam and Alice their own space with and their newborn son Samson.

In January 2018, Joe Tate arranges for the house to be demolished to make way for an access road for a golf course. Joe throws a party at Home Farm so nobody will see Wishing Well Cottage get demolished, but whilst Chas Dingle was working at The Woolpack, Noah and Samson Dingle sneak off to Wishing Well Cottage and are trapped when the place is getting destroyed. However, Graham Foster beats up the contractors to get them to stop with the demolishing, and he and Eric Pollard save Noah and Samson.

I thought it was a nice tribute to Zak. I was worried that Lydia (who seems to get sandwiched into most scenes) was going to spoil it at one point and was glad when she cleared off.

Didn't Debbie at one time own the cottage, when she was a businesswoman/gangstermoll. I think she eventually gave it back to Zak.

Last night's episode was so poignant, but aside from the flashbacks, my favorite moments were Sam and Belle singing together and getting Cain to continue, Sam hugging Cain from behind and Cain's deadpan response, and the two brothers sharing some of Dad's whiskey and giving Belle apple juice instead. Lovely moments!

Thanks. So the Dingles lived there for 20 odd years before they bothered to visit the village.

Tina and Paul - a real match made in heaven. I wonder how Mandy ended up with Paul?

Is Stephanie by chance the same girl who is organising the illegal boxing matches?
