With references to Angie & Kev's health a little while ago, will Toadie now relocate permanently to Colac to help them out (& get himself away from Ramsay Street)? Am I remembering correctly that Toadie actually visited them earlier this year?

Yes I also recall TOADIE going to Colac for a visit.
Im disappointed with TOADIEs exit SL. TERESE is left looking like a fool yet again for love. A TEE reunion would have been much better?

Last night we had Toadfish: Toad On The Road at my theatre (West Cliff Theatre, Clacton-on-Sea).

It was a great evening with the iconic Neighbours?, star Ryan Moloney, as he took our audience on a journey back over 28 years on Ramsay Street as the character ?Toadfish?.

A funny, fabulous, heart-warming show about the journey that Ryan and his character ?Toadie? have taken.

Congratulations to Ryan and his team for bringing this lovely show to our Theatre.

Neighbours legend Ryan Moloney clears up Toadie mysteries ahead of show exit
"I think I told a story that was as true as possible."

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/nei...xit-interview/

    Neighbours spoilers follow.

Note: The following article contains discussion of themes including suicide.

Neighbours waves goodbye to one of its most popular characters next week as Toadie Rebecchi leaves Ramsay Street after nearly 30 years.

The long-running soap has been exploring a mental health crisis for Toadie, who has realised that he needs to make a positive change in his life by leaving Erinsborough for a fresh start in Colac.

In real life, Ryan Moloney ? who plays Toadie ? finished filming earlier this year and is currently touring the UK with his Toad on the Road theatre show.

Digital Spy recently caught up with Ryan for an exclusive and in-depth chat about his tour, some recent ambiguous Toadie scenes, and why Neighbours bosses may have felt it was the right time for him to leave.

"Knowing that I'm finishing up on Neighbours has allowed me to tell a story that I think is really important to show on television. If we are to address and fix mental health, then we actually need to start showing it and addressing it properly on television.

"I don't know that we did it particularly properly in my case, but I gave it my best shot and I think I told a story that was as true as possible.

"It's a story of 30 years of trauma, which has come home to roost for Toadie. He ended up having PTSD symptoms earlier in the year and ended up having a breakdown. Then, when he was in the Outback, he had some realisations about his life.

"Toadie came back and he decided that he was going to make some tough choices, in order for him to get better for him and his family. That's why he's decided that he's going to leave Erinsborough.

"I think that's a really important story to tell. We took Toadie on this really in-depth journey, and we see a process of a positive resolution for him."

Toadie's exit episode, showing his farewell party at the Kennedy house, looks pretty fun and celebratory compared to his recent dark scenes. Were you happy with it?

"Yeah, absolutely. It's a good bit of fun. Toadie has got his mates around and I actually really liked his final line as he drives off into the sunset. I'm not going to tell you it, though, you're going to have to watch it!"

The other characters in the show haven't seemed entirely sympathetic over Toadie's mental health. How did you feel about that when you were playing the scenes?

"I actually didn't quite know what was going to air, to be honest. Then I noticed some comments on Facebook like 'stupid cryer Toadie'. I don't take it to heart, but what I do realise is that it's my job to connect with an audience and if an audience aren't getting what I'm doing, then what am I doing wrong?

"I watched it to understand what it is. I discovered that instead of us actually showing how Toadie feels, he'll do an action but we won't see how he feels about what he's just done ? if there's regret, sadness, self-loathing or anything like that. What we actually do is we cut to everyone else's reactions.

"That just got exacerbated as time went on, so we end up demonising the mental health aspect. I think we could have probably done a bit better in that aspect."

Toadie has made some mistakes since the reboot and hasn't always been the likeable guy the fans loved. Were you protective of the character when you were playing those scenes?

"Characters change, so I think it's probably more important to tell the truth of the story. If you're so worried about your character being liked all the time, that's probably an ego thing on your behalf. You just put your ego aside and you do what you're meant to be doing, which is to portray the role. I'm quite okay with it.

"I do completely realise that Toadie cops the brunt of it all and I had to make some unbelievable storylines believable, but I'm super glad that I had the opportunity to come back to Neighbours for this 12 months and I'm also happy to be finishing up as well.

"It's been an amazing journey and I've loved it. I've also loved coming over here to the UK and being able to share it with the punters who are coming to see Toad on the Road."

Did you enjoy the much-discussed Toadie and Terese relationship?

"Of course, I love working with Bek [Elmaloglou, who plays Terese]. Our job was to get you guys talking. We knew that it wasn't believable at the start, but I came up with the drivers as to why the characters worked and why it was based on truth.

"I said to Bek that the way we'd know if we were doing our job well is if, by the three-month mark, we'd split the audience with half saying 'Terese should be with Paul' and the other half saying 'I didn't really like Toadie and Terese at the start but now I really like them'.

"That was exactly how it was, so it was perfect. Then when Melanie came back, it was like: 'We've already started the fighting on the socials and now we've got to turn the volume up higher!'

"The closer that we pushed Toadie and Melanie together, and the closer that we pushed Terese and Paul together, the louder you guys got and that was the whole point of it."

The fans have been debating the ambiguous scene where Toadie took his shoes off when he'd collapsed with dehydration on the railway in the Outback. Was he trying to take his own life?

"My intention throughout that episode was to show that Toadie wasn't trying to take his own life ? he was actually giving up on the fight, which is a very different thing.

"What I have noticed, especially on the socials, is people saying things like: 'He should have died on the train tracks' or 'He should have taken his own life and that would have been the ultimate way to go'.

"To which I say: 'How messed up is that? That you think it's the best way for someone to go, as opposed to coming to realisations and doing something about their mental health?'

"People live in this fantasy land where they say things like this and they completely ignore that people read it. It really does affect people, so you've got to be careful with this kind of stuff.

"In terms of Toadie taking off his shoes, I wanted to show that he didn't think he was going to get out, so he was trying to tell himself that it was okay to stop the fight.

"We didn't totally see how mentally gone Toadie was. We didn't tell that full story ? they cut a lot of that out, which is unfortunate. It left it up in the air as to what he really was doing, but for me, I went there and he was fully mentally gone."

Fans were stunned when you revealed that it was Neighbours' choice to write Toadie out. You, Jackie Woodburne (Susan), Stefan Dennis (Paul) and Alan Fletcher (Karl) have always been seen as the four 'untouchables'. Was it a shock to you too?

"However anyone else sees us is completely up to them, but for me I've always thought that I'm only there for the contract that I'm there for. So the 30 years has been a ride and a half, because my mindset was always that I'd only be there for a year or two! It's been the biggest gift of all.

"In terms of shock, I wanted to leave the show before Neighbours got axed from Channel 5. I thought it was going to finish at that point, so I wanted to stick around for the finale. Then when that finished, I thought: 'Okay, cool. I'm moving on from that'.

"Then obviously when [executive producer] Jason Herbison asked me to come back for the revival, I just thought you don't get that opportunity ? shows don't usually come back like this. So I came back, but I probably got the feeling this was part of the plan, because Jason knew that I'd been looking to leave anyway.

"Also, economics-wise, it helps to not have really expensive people there! If you want to have the longevity of the show, and if you want to have the show keep pumping along, it's got to be affordable and you've got to balance the books.

"If that means that expensive people have to go, well then that's the way it goes. Out of the four that you've mentioned, I was probably the easiest choice because I already wanted to leave."

How is Toad on the Road going?

"Toad on the Road has been an amazing journey. I'm blown away by how audiences are receiving it. It's not your normal show. People are leaving changed.

"They're entertained, we laugh, we cry, we go on a pretty cool journey and everyone leaves feeling pretty warm and fuzzy. People have been saying that it changed their life, so I'm leaving something worthwhile in the world and I'm happy."

"They're entertained, we laugh, we cry, we go on a pretty cool journey and everyone leaves feeling pretty warm and fuzzy. People have been saying that it changed their life, so I'm leaving something worthwhile in the world and I'm happy."

"I give you an acting masterclass at the same time on character development ? and how and why we make particular storylines in certain ways.

"I take you behind the scenes for the Sonya and Toadie two-hander, the creation of that and all of the thought processes behind it. Then my aim is to bring Erinsborough and a film set to the theatre, so I've created soundscapes and vision in order to do this and interact with it.

"I take you to Sonya's funeral as well. And that's only in the first half! There's a lot going on and it's a fast-paced show.

"We talk about some pretty serious stuff in there as well. We go into mental health, death and suicide. You will hear things that you will have never expected to hear from myself, but also things that need to be said about society as a whole.

"I'm seriously blown away by the response. It's changing people's lives, so come along if you want to be changed and experience something that you've never seen before. You'll never see it again because when I finish this tour, it's gone. And when I finish on Neighbours, I'm gone.

"So this is my goodbye to everyone, this is my thank you and it's been such a gift to be able to do it."

You recently moved behind the camera and did some directing on Neighbours ? how did it go?

"It was a fun ride, I absolutely loved it. From the first meeting, I just knew that this is where I need to be. I can tell multiple stories at the same time with multiple characters. I can explore stuff that's not in the scripts ? using props, lighting, sound, edits.

"After 30 years of being in front of the camera, I think I worked out the other day that I've been doing the equivalent of 10 feature films a year.

"280 feature films in terms of script time have come through my hands, so I've got a lot of skill. I've learned a hell of a lot. I love to teach, I love to help and I love to share, so I think directing is the right place for me."

    Interesting read?.
Looks like RYAN thought they did a crappy job with TOADIEs exit too.
I understood the mental health aspect of the SL but the execution was poorly done.
Also interesting that writers chose to cut out the big bucks.
After 30 yrs it will be interesting to see how often writers mention TOADIEs character?

The show will need to cast a new teenage girl to fit in with DEX & JJ. Maybe DEX can meet a uni student when he starts his advanced course?

I saw someone mention the other day that Ayisha (Nell) had included something on her socials recently (a TikTok video?) indicating she had been/was still filming. Not sure whether this is true, but maybe after she leaves with Toadie, we will see her again soon? We will see.

Yeah, Ive wondered about NELL. At first I thought writers would keep her but it just didnt make any sense that TOADIE would leave his daughter with SONYA behind.

Im not sure what SL writers could use to bring NELL back. Shes too young to be in Ramsay St on her own. To place her with TERESE is stupid, MEL had a stronger bond. SUSAN & KARL would probably end up with her.

Honestly happy to see the character depart. Her and JJ are just a big no for me. She was better with DEX.

Neighbours confirms Toadie return plans after show exit
The fan favourite will be leaving next week.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/nei...-return-plans/

    Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours has confirmed that Toadie Rebecchi will make a return, following his upcoming dramatic exit.

After 29 years on Ramsay Street, it was announced that Toadie (played by Ryan Moloney) would be leaving the Australian soap.

The fan favourite decided he wanted a fresh start in Colac, after splitting up with his wife Terese Willis. Next week's episodes will see Toadie's final scenes, as his loved ones gather to wave the Rebecchis off into the sunset.

However, according to TV Tonight, it won't be the last time viewers see the iconic character.

Though Moloney's final episode as regular cast member will be September 25, a Channel 10 spokesperson confirmed: "He will return from time to time for guest appearances on the show."

Meanwhile, the star will still be part of the Neighbours family as he continues to "develop as a director behind the scenes, too."

Moloney is currently touring the UK with his Toad on the Road theatre show. Digital Spy attended one of the shows this week, where Moloney explained his future on the soap.

He confirmed that he had finished filming Toadie's exit scenes, but still has five weeks left on his contract, which show bosses can utilise for guest appearances over the next few months.

Unfortunately for fans, Moloney also revealed that he has no plans to return to the show beyond this commitment.

Neighbours releases new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video in the UK and US. In Australia, the show airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 4pm on Channel 10, with a 6.30pm repeat screening on 10 Peach

Neighbours spoilers: Beloved Toadie is leaving Erinsborough for good after nearly 30 years on screen
    Toad hits the road!

    https://www.nowtolove.com.au/enterta...-erinsborough/

It's the end of an era, as Ramsay Street's favourite son, Jarrod 'Toadfish' Rebecchi, finally leaves home in one of Neighbours' most emotional farewells.

After nearly dying in the desert, this week, Toadie (Ryan Moloney) has the harsh revelation there?s nothing left for him in Erinsborough.

Deciding to move to Colac in Victoria with his kids Nell (Ayisha Salem-Towner) and Hugo (Tanner Ellis-Anderson), some are excited for his next chapter ? like ex-wife Melanie (Lucinda Cowden) ? while others are devastated by the news.

"Toadie has never got over the death of his wife Sonya [Eve Morey] and needs to find a way to do that without replacing her with a new love," Lucinda, 59, tells TV WEEK. "I'm glad they end up understanding each other, and their friendship is still so strong at the end."

On the other hand, his soon-to-be ex-wife Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou) has the opposite reaction.

"She's devastated by Toadie's decision," Rebekah, 50, says. "They were having problems, but never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined it would come to this."

Karl (Alan Fletcher) and Susan (Jackie Woodburne), Toadie?s 'surrogate parents', throw him a farewell party to celebrate their many years spent together, sending him off in style - Hawaiian shirts and all!

Reflecting on Ryan's 30 years on the series, Alan says that while it's hard to say goodbye to anyone from the Neighbours family, it's "particularly hard when it comes to Toadie".

"That said, the lovely thing is we all know he is moving on to bigger things and will still be part of the team in one way or another," Alan, 67, adds.

As Toadie packs up and heads off on his next adventure, it marks the closing of a chapter for Neighbours and is officially the end of the road for Toad.

Neighbours star Ryan Moloney wins top soap award after Toadie's exit
He's bowing out on a high.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/nei...e-soap-awards/

    Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours star Ryan Moloney has triumphed at the Inside Soap Awards 2024 following his emotional departure from the show, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The actor, who played fan favourite Toadie Rebecchi, has secured the Best Daytime Star prize in this year's voting.

Ryan fought off competition from Home and Away's Ada Nicodemou (Leah Patterson) and Doctors star Kia Pegg (Scarlett Kiernan) to top the public vote.

The news comes just days after Neighbours aired Ryan's exit from the role of Toadie, who has left Erinsborough after an incredible run of nearly 30 years.

Toadie realised that he needed a fresh start after suffering a breakdown over his unresolved traumas from the past, including the death of his late wife Sonya in 2019.

Speaking about the awards result, Ryan commented: "I'm so glad that for my final year on Neighbours, I've been able to tell a story of importance ? and one that is often avoided, misunderstood and demonised.

"Mental health and mental illness is something that touches all of us, and if we're to deal with it properly, we need to see it on our mainstream platforms.

"So I'd like to thank my family for the constant grounding, the love and support. I'm thankful to Neighbours for allowing me to hone my skills every single day for the past 30 years.

"And of course to the fans, for their love and support of the character, for voting for me for this award and for allowing the story to resonate so loudly with you.

"It's been a privilege to bring Jarrod 'Toadfish' Rebecchi into your lives and whether it's through directing or performing, I look forward to wherever the next adventure takes me. Much love to you all."

Since finishing up as a show regular at Neighbours, Ryan has started working behind the scenes as a director on the soap. He has also toured the UK with his Toad on the Road theatre show.

Speaking in an Inside Soap chat, which will appear in full in a future issue of the magazine, Ryan added: "It's clear there's a lot of passion for Neighbours, it was the fans who brought it back. This award means that the work I'm doing is resonating with the audience, and I'm grateful for that.

"I'm pretty excited about whatever adventure is next for me. I'm really looking forward to spending some time with my kids. And of course I'm doing the director traineeship as well, which is very much up my alley. Wherever life takes me after this point, it's going to be good."

The Inside Soap Awards 2024 take place in London on Monday evening (September 30), when the rest of the winners will be officially revealed.

Voting opened in July for 15 different awards and, by the start of this week, over 80,000 votes had already been cast by readers of the magazine.

The hotly-contested categories include Best Actor and Actress, Best Villain, Best Comic Performance, Best Storyline and ? in a first for the 2024 ceremony ? Best Pet.

Fans will also be eager to learn the lucky recipient of the Soap Superstar of 2024 prize, which will be awarded to a cast member who has performed above and beyond the call of duty this year.

While voting for most of the categories has now closed, fans can still have their say in the Best Soap battle until 12pm on Monday. Votes can be cast via the Inside Soap website.

Gary Gillatt, executive editor of Inside Soap magazine, recently commented: "Some of 2024's most challenging and thought-provoking television dominates the storyline and acting categories this year: the bittersweet journey from Paul's MND diagnosis in Coronation Street; the horror of coercive control in a marriage in Emmerdale and abuse within a family in Hollyoaks.

"Meanwhile, EastEnders' tale of the conspiracy of 'The Six' has won many fans. But who'll take home the trophies on the night? All will soon be revealed!"
