If there was a real fire, the smoke would be so thick that there would be no visibility. Yet we really didn't see smoke inside, while seeing lots of ash on Ruby's face after they got her out.

No camera people were injured in the filming of the barn fire or the explosion.

Probably no smoke because strangely, the bales of straw did not seem to be burning, just the ground and the structure of the barn. A great big beam, probably made of oak, which would take ages to burn through, falls still intact, soon after the fire started. Most amazing thing, was that after Cain ran in, the barn door was open, if only that had been the case when Moira was trying to get out.

I thought the only thing holding the door shut was a sliding bolt, why didn't anyone simply slide it back. Don't remember any one sliding it across to lock it, after they went into the barn before the fire. And anyway why would they.

Moira did. The slide bolt was fitted with a padlock, that Moira locked when she came into the barn. Which is why I asked, why would anyone want to lock a barn door from the inside when there was no other way out.

So why didn't she simply unlock the padlock to get out, instead of just banging on the door?

I do not think she had a key with her. The padlock was one of those brass padlocks that simply snaps shut.

Moira's mind may be confused now, but it looked like the bolt had been there for a long time. I just cannot think of any circumstances where you would fit a padlock to the inside of a door, if there is no other way out, what purpose would it serve, except to create a dramatic situation when two women get locked in a burning barn.
