I don't think it has gone wrong at all. It's disappointing that he isn't doing much right now but when he is on screen even if it's just a few lines he grabs the audience's attention. We can't have him being bad all the time and I have really enjoyed seeing him get on ok with his brothers. He has some funny one liners and I think it's good to see different sides to a character. And actually people that weren't liking him so much last year are starting to like him again now. We have to accept that not everyone likes the way Ross is all the time and there will be people who like this side of Ross more than the cocky bad boy Ross. I think we also need to accept that Ross is probably going to be quiet up until his break. Disappointing obviously if you are a big fan but they need to get some of the fans Ross lost back by giving him a break and showing the funnier side.
For me it isnt the fact that Ross isnt on screen much its that Robron are on too much. Even if they are not involved in an episode they will often have a little nothing scene just to please the Robron fans on social media. For me its too much and it will backfire sooner or later.
