i am reading tommy smiths autobiography at the mo. in case anyone doesnt know he used to play football for liverpool and played under bill shankley and bob paisley. it is a really good book but then i suppose youve got to like football to read it!
I fogot to mention Im reading Breaking Dawn :cheer: I dont want it too end though and Im well over half way through. OH my god! is all im saying :p
I am reading Oranges Aren't The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson. Really good book so far - got to the bit where Jeanette has met the girl she starts to fall in love with.
Ive just finished reading Breaking dawn! :crying:
Finished reading Oranges last night .. a really brilliant book but rather disturbing at parts and it's weirdly quite sad at the end..
I have started reading A Mermaid's Singing by Val McDermid today - read 50 pages so far and loving it! She writes the Wire in The Blood series!
A Mermaid's Singing was a really great book! It really took an unexpected turn towards the end and I recommend the book to anyone who likes reading the crime genre.
I am planning to get the next book in the series, but currently engrossed in The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, which is proving as good as 'Of Mice And Men' already.
I'm currently reading My Story by Daze Pelzer, it's a trilogy of his books. It's the most disturbing/moving book you're ever likely to read. An uncomfortable read, but everyone should read it before they die.
I think I read those as 3 separate books a few years ago. The first one was truely heart rending. I am sorry but the following two seemed to be money making exercises driven by his second wife.
I agree with you there Trinity, the second and third just aren't the same. He had such a horrific story, and I dont feel like the other two really shed much more light on the situation, they are just him milking it for all it's worth. Saying that though in the third book there's some moving scenes between his mother/father/grandmother, as he gets answers to make his life complete.
I've got a big job ahead of me, I've got to adapt this into a movie for my current assignment, not sure how I'm going to go about it yet. It will certainly be challenging and hopefully I'll get a good grade for it, as part of the portfolio is raising debates for and against an adaptation.
OMG - that is such a difficult assignment.
The story is so horrific that there is a danger of making it gratuitous if you show the violence, but then again if you don't is the story as strong.
There would have to be a lot of implied neglect and scenes of the mother shutting doors and screaming.
If you have to do all three books then I would start at the end and tell the story in flash backs.
Im reading If you could see me now, byt Cecelia Ahern
Still trying to read 1984, and A Handmaids Tale. I can't get into them, they're worded too intelligent for me!...I ahve to read them though, or I won't be passing English Literature this year!
I have just started on 'A Place Called Here' by Cecilia Ahern, looks good so far.
I just finished reading "please Daddy don't" by Barbra Naughton.. about abuse victim in Ireland.. I read it in one day.. The man got 11 years in the end.. he deserved longer and she named and shamed her father.. fair play to her...
I've just finished reading the boy in the stripped pjyamas.
Very good Perdy. Although it mainly based for young people you can't help but feel sadness for the two boys involved. One is clueless to the horrors of the war while the other has sufferd too much pain. Read it Perdy you will enjoy it. I bought it to help Marley understand the horror of the war. She is being taught about WW2 next year and this book makes understanding the troubles easier to understand.
Im half way through Cecilia Aherns WhereRainbows End, im really enjoying it as it is not too heavy and i can dive into when i have time, i feel like i know all the characters. I think it falls into that feel good catagory, "good rubbish"
I'm re-reading a Handmaids Tale.. for Lit. It's not that bad... I just cannot pick up on the hidden messgaes and all!
I'm loving PS I Love You. Especially the sh*t sharon phrases. I read six chapters in bed last night.
Haha Kath.. I am also reading PS I love you.. haven't read it before, but loving it so far :D.
It is a fantastic book, I cried because of sad bits and I cried with laughter. Reading her other novel "A Place Called Here" at the moment, also recommendable from what I have read so far.
i bought the cecillia ahern set of three for a fiver in tesco, they are really good, i finished Where Rainbows End last night and am moving onto A place called here
OOo what other one was in the set?
I think it was If You Could see me now, or something along those lines. It was a really good deal they had lots of sets.
Ive finished reading, If you could see me now , by cecelia ahern
I loved it, it was really sad it parts and I loved the end, it made me smile and think :)
Finished reading 'The Grapes of Wrath' by John Steinbeck today. Up there with one of the best books I've ever read. I was close to tears in some parts as it was so powerful and realistic. An insightful portrayal into family life following the depression.
'The Great Gatsby' for English. Not enjoying it as much as the other Lit book at the moment.
I'm currently Reading Twilight By Stephanie Meyer:Dx
But also going through Educating Rita for english essays :(
Reading Paul O Grady's autobiography at the moment
